Traditional Gascogne style farmhouse with 2 Gites attached. The converted former stables and former armagnac distillery sleeps up to 12 and 7. Sitting in an elevated position facing south over looking the beautiful rolling hills of the department know as the Gers bordering Lot et Garonne & Landes. La Platte and shared pool is set in 2 hectors of park land backing onto the regional national park of the Gers. Market towns of Gabarret, Eauze, Mezin and Condom are within easy reach. Wonderful accommodation, old French buildings with all the modern conveniences. Better than described with all home comforts. Very clean. Well equipped both inside and out (loungers, comfy sofas, garden table and chairs for dining outside). Beautiful pool in a lovely garden setting. Short drive to restaurants, cafés and markets. River walk just few minutes down quiet road. Friendly and helpful owners gave advice on where to eat, what to see/ do. Will definitely return !

Beautiful region

The properties are clean and comfortable in a lovely setting and within easy travelling distance of some very pretty towns and villages. The pool is maintained to a high standard and provided welcome relief from the blazing sunshine during our stay. A car is essential to make the most of your time in the region.

Why then would I tick "no" to the question " would you recommend this property to your friends?"

Simply because.........

Unfortunately, during our stay, the handle to the pool umbrella was broken by one of our party and whilst this is regrettable, it was certainly not through abuse of the equipment and accidents will happen. What I was not prepared for was the extremely aggressive manner in which I was spoken to by the owner when he ordered me to accompany him to the pool side to explain how the damage occurred.

On returning home, I queried the fact that the cost of a brand new umbrella had been deducted from our security deposit. I was able to provide photographs of the damage which very clearly indicated that there was rust in place around the winding mechanism. My query prompted a long e-mail detailing a number of "issues" that our party had caused throughout the week, these ranged from extremely petty to completely fabricated i.e glass bottles around the pool, water bombs, rubbish and lolly sticks in the pool and smoking in the gite. Whilst two of our party are smokers, they absolutely did not and would not smoke inside as our family group included two young children, there is no way that we would have compromised their safety in this way. We also cleared everything away at the end of each day throughout our stay.

The owners live in the distillery attached to the rental properties and are on- site for most of the time, following the incident with the umbrella they monitored our every move making it difficult for us to relax and enjoy the remainder of our holiday. In our experience, they seemed to have difficulty in differentiating between house guests and paying guests, the latter must be allowed to spend their holiday in the way they choose, as long as the properties are treated with respect. Surely, if you are advertising both properties together and are happy to accept the rental income that 19 people generates, you must also accept a certain level of disruption with a group of this size. There is a fine line between being attentive and intrusive, unfortunately, in our experience, the owners have yet to master the art.

agéable gite dans la campagne gascogne !

Nous avons passé un séjour agréable et reposant en famille. Nous avons en particulier apprécié la cour à l'arrière de la maison pour les repas en extérieur, ainsi que la piscine et le grand terrain de la propriété permettant aux petits comme aux grands de s'amuser. What a fantastic place, highly recommended, Matthew and Jillian are great, full of information on the local area, their homemade pizza is Scrummy, clean cottage with everything you need, lovely pool, would recommend this place to anyone.

When we arrived at the house we were greeted with a lovely warm welcome and a bottle of wine to begin our holiday! The house was beautiful and well kept and the surrounding area offered an amazing view. As well as being beautifully clean and tidy, the facilities were fantastic. The swimming pool was even bigger than we expected, the pictures don't do it justice, and we spent much of our time relaxing by the pool while the children enjoyed swimming. On the days and evenings that we did venture out there was a huge variety of places to visit and often fetes going on in nearby cities and towns. Matthew was more than happy to suggest places to visit and was very helpful in providing information about local towns, events and lovely restaurants. (All of Matthews suggestions proved to be good ones!) Gill's culinary skills were an added bonus as she made a birthday cake for us at a small fee, and it was delicious! We will not hesitate in going back as we could not have asked for better accommodation, hosts and opportunities for site seeing. A wonderful holiday, we highly recommend!

Activity and Interests

Car: necessary


The coast between Bordeaux and Biarritz, with its many surfing beaches, is about 2 hours drive away. There are a number of swimming lakes with man made beaches, water slides close to the property.


Nearest airports: Bergerac airport 121 km, Bordeaux-Mérignac airport 141 km, Toulouse airport 160 km and Pau airport 148.5 km. Ryanair /Easy Jet flys from Liverpool, Jet2 from Manchester, Leeds Bradford, Bristol, Norwich and all London Airports. Car hire is essential. About 10 hours drive from Calais, 6 hours from St Malo or take the Eurostar train to Agen car hire available from Agen station.


The city of Agen being only 49km away. Saint PÉ St Simon has a small shop and restaurant. Within a short drive or bike ride from the house is an open air pool set in parkland. Each town has a traditional French market selling local fresh produce every morning. Eauze at 14km being one of the best on a Thursday. There is a magnificent spa at Barbotan les Thermes which is 20km. Gabarret at 8km, Montreal 12km, Mezin 12km, Condom 25km. Also with easy access to the Pyrénées stunning mountains & lakes

The region boasts an astonishing 146 chateaux, one of the largest and most imposing of which is that of Lavardens, built on a limestone outcrop. One third of modern day Gersois villages are original medieval bastides. These fortified villages have grid patterned streets and central arcaded market places and were established at many strategic points all over the south west of France in the middle ages. There are many wine domains which include MonLuc at St Puy which do guided tours and free wine tastings.You can also enjoy - horse riding, golf, boat hire on the Baise river, Casinos and Spas. We are on the route of the famous 'Pilgrims Walk'. We are backing on to the regional national park of the Gers and there are many good walking routes and cycle routes. We can arrange activities before and during your stay so you can make the most of your holiday.
