Harbour View House is a large modern, 4 storey house situated on the east (Abbey) side of Whitby with panoramic views over the harbour and town from the balcony of the open plan living area. The clever layout of rooms with bedrooms on top and bottom floors and kitchen/dining/living area in the middle means the house is ideal for family get togethers or groups of friends. The house is well equipped and comfortably furnished for a relaxing holiday any time of the year. The house is just a 10 minute walk into the town and has the added benefit of off-street parking for 2 cars, a rarity in Whitby.

We have been fortunate to visit many parts of the world but one of our favourite journeys will always be a drive across the North York Moors to Whitby which has become a special place not just for us, but for our whole family.

It has been a fab family Christmas in a beautiful home thank you. The safety gates were very much appreciated as was the high chairs and the children's cutlery as we forgot ours! I would say though that a gate at the top and bottom of every stairs would have been even better for us as we have two very inquisitive toddlers and we found it hard to keep them from the stairs especially the ones to the living room. I can honestly say that your house has been one of the nicest, cleanest and best equipped we have ever stayed in. Thank you

Spacious family friendly cottage with great views

A wonderful spacious, clean and well decorated cottage in a great location. It has everything you could possibly need and more. The garage and parking space is a real bonus and the view from the outside spaces/balcony is out of this world - I'm missing the steam train, boats and the Whitby skies!

This was the first time we'd booked using Owners Direct, the process was simple and the owners friendly, helpful and responded quickly.

One of the best cottages we've ever stayed in, would definitely recommend.

Lovely seaside house.

Had a brilliant time and in some ways took my husband and myself back to our childhoods playing and exploring with 4 of our little grandsons.

The house was lovely and well equipped and wonderfully suited for families of all ages.

Fantastic Family Holiday

lovely accommodation for the whole family

Whitby soul weekend

There was 4 couples staying in this beautiful house , very spacious and views of the harbour were amazing especially at night . When we arrived there was a welcoming bottle of wine and biscuits, I found the booking of the property very easy thanks to Elaine, who is a very friendly lady , wouldn't hesitate to book a stay again .

great location

Went for a long weekend with family young and old couples with child (2yrs)

Great location with fantasic views balconys on 2 levels were used for evenig drinks watching the sun set and morning cupas.

Great size rooms and lovely decorated with plenty of homly touches and equipment (towels, bedding, cutlery, plates, iron etc...)

Will definatly be using this property again.

Whitby North Bay Beach is a 15 minute walk, perfect when the tide is out for sandcastle building and traditional beach games or a 3 mile walk along to Sandsend.

Robin Hood's Bay, 5 miles south, and Runswick Bay, 10 miles north, provide excellent opportunities for rock pool exploring and fossil hunting.

Travel:

Whitby station is 1 mile from the house, connections via Middlesborough to the East Coast London-Edinburgh mainline service.

Nearest airports are Durham-Tees Valley, Leeds-Bradford and Newcastle.

Whitby has something for everyone, whatever the time of year.

The town is dominated by the ruins of Whitby Abbey, beside St Mary's Church on the cliff top from which the famous 199 steps lead down to the narrow streets and ginnels with a wealth of shops, pubs and restaurants.

In addition to traditional seaside activities there are opportunities for fishing and pleasure boat trips, river fishing, surfing, golfing and Whitby is fast becoming a destination of choice for keen photographers. There are many choices of spectacular coastal and inland routes for cyclists (the route of Le Tour de Yorkshire is just 200m from the house) and walkers (The Cleveland Way is 1/2 mile from the house). If you don't fancy a swim in the sea (Whitby beach has Blue Flag status) try the Whitby Indoor Leisure Centre or Scarborough Pool.

The picturesque North York Moors can also be enjoyed by steam train from Whitby to Pickering and the trains can be seen and heard from the balcony!

There are a number of museums, including The Captain Cook Museum, Whitby Museum and art galleries.

Whitby Pavilion Theatre has a programme of entertainment throughout the year, and it's only a short drive to Scarborough for an even wider choice.

Whilst Whitby will forever be associated with fish and chips there is now a wide and growing choice of cuisine and restaurants within a short walking distance.

Whitby has 2 large supermarkets, a Co-op in the town centre and a Sainsbury's (with petrol station) just a 5 minute drive from the house.

  • Notes on accommodation: The rental is fully inclusive of heating and electricity costs. For those coming with young children we have a wooden cot and a travel cot, 2 high chairs and stair gates are in place on the top floor and in the living room. Bed linen (except for the cots), bath towels and tea towels are provided. Please bring your own beach towels. For the comfort of all our guests we regret that the house is strictly non-smoking and we do not accept pets. Outside: Off street parking for 2 cars (1 in garage, 1 on drive). Balcony from main living area with chairs has panoramic views over harbour and town. Small paved patio area at same level as kitchen, stairs down to gravelled area in front of master bedroom with table and chairs. Utility Room: Washing machine, tumble dryer, sink, drying racks, iron and ironing board in integral garage. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen, towels (except cot bedding and beach towels), heating included. The house will be cleaned prior to arrival.
