Lovely converted barn in great rural location

  • 5 of 5

This barn was converted to the highest standard with love and care by the warm and lovely owners Jane and John . My wife and I enjoyed our week stay here, we were welcomed by Jane and John and made to feel at home. Some starting up items were provided including a bottle of wine and milk which was a nice touch. We could not find any negative issues in this cottage, it was just perfect from all aspects , the whole set up was amazing.

A little hidden gem !

  • 5 of 5

This wee cottage is a little gem ! There was a lovely welcome bottle of wine, chocolate nibbles and cheese biscuits on arrival oh and a bottle of milk in the fridge. The cottage was very clean and I have to say probably the best equipped kitchen I have EVER stayed in. There was also tea, coffee, sugar, salt & pepper We ate out most nights but we were able to cook 'proper meals' too. The weather was exceptionally hot while we were there so we travelled to Torquay, Plymouth, Woolacombe beach and Street (Clarks Village) in Somerset. We found that most outings we did required us to drive for about an hour which wasn't a problem - google maps is a great thing!!

The bed was very large and extremely comfortable, there is plenty of wardrobe space and hangers, a dressing table with a sewing kit and if you really wanted to, you could wash your clothes in the modern washing machine and iron them too ! (there was even washing detergent too)

The bathroom houses the shower, sink and toilet along with the washing machine and lovely warm heated towel rail, perfect for warming up your towels or drying your washing out of the machine. Good quality towels are supplied and the shower is powerful.

Everything you could possible want is in this cottage, not only will you get a dvd to use but there is a very good selection of dvds to play and if that's not enough there are a selection of books and a board game in the cupboard.

The lane down to the cottage is very narrow and not for the faint hearted but we only encountered traffic/horses twice on the lane so it isn't a problem. You absolutely must spend some time in the garden, it's beautiful with a stream and sun loungers to lay on if the weather is warm enough. (perhaps a small bbq would be an added bonus)

Nothing is too much trouble for your hosts, they are not intrusive at all. We had a wonderful stay and may well return in years to come :)

Owner's Response: Just to clarify: The lane down to the cottage is a typical Devon country lane with passing places.

The best you can get

  • 5 of 5

We have enjoyed the privacy and the luxury of this charming cottage, so lovingly renovated. Its secluded garden and the gentle sound of the little stream, -yes, we could see the baby trout-, running alongside completed the picture. If you love to be active, are still going strong, and if you want to explore the beautiful spots Devon has to offer, this place is probably the best you can get. Even by the highest (Continental) standards, the price-quality ratio is excellent.

We came all the way from The Netherlands, survived the congestions on the M4 and M5, stayed for a week and concluded that the kind hospitality of Jane & John and the pleasure of staying at Spurway Cottage have surpassed our expectations.

A lovely, peaceful cottage, well equipped with everything you could possibly need.

  • 5 of 5

Having stayed in many self-catering properties in the UK this is definitely up there as one of the best. Jane and John are a lovely couple who provide everything that you could possibly require welcoming us warmly upon our arrival.

The cottage is excellently maintained and clean, in beautiful, peaceful surroundings. We would certainly recommend this cottage to friends and family and will be returning in the future.

Relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for a week in early June. We had a week that was exactly what we wanted, the location is beautiful and very peaceful and the accommodation was excellent and everything you would want it to be. We were more than happy to spend our days at the cottage enjoying the beautiful garden. John and Jane were very welcoming and the wine and biscuits were a very welcome gift. A return visit is almost certain.

Amazing, tranquil and utterly beautiful.

  • 5 of 5

From the moment that you arrive at this idyllic cottage you cannot fail to feel relaxed. The owners, Jane and John, are some of the nicest people you could wish to meet, making your stay even more enjoyable. The welcome basket is a very nice touch and the cottage is spotlessly clean with every amenity you could want.

There are plenty of walks literally on your doorstep, which provide you with ample opportunity to see buzzards and herds of deer in the stunning countryside.

The location of the cottage is perfectly situated for peace and tranquility and the beautiful garden and adjacent river are the ideal place to unwind with a book in the peace and quiet.

The surrounding villages have lovely pubs, The Red Lion at Oakford and The Bridge at Dulverton are equally recommended for their food and hospitality. We can also recommend the cream teas at the canal in Tiverton, brilliant value and almost defeating amounts of food.

To summarise, if you're looking for a great escape from the hustle of life then this is the place for you. We will certainly be returning, thank you Jane and John for making our stay so perfect and igniting the dream!

Neil and Tracey.
