Cottage in Spurway, near Oakford, Tiverton, Mid Devon - Idyllic Hideaway In Peaceful Rural Location

The Old Barn at Spurway Mill Cottage is a recently refurbished, spacious one bedroom detached cottage located in a secluded valley with gardens bordered by a stream and adjacent woodland. The cottage is located at the end of a small 'no through road' lane, just beyond our own property. This area of mid Devon, a few miles south of the Exmoor National Park, is quiet and undisturbed with wooded coombs and hills which surround the cottage. The accommodation is on two floors, a large living room with dining area, separate kitchen, and a shower room on the ground floor and upstairs a double bedroom overlooking the gardens and surrounding woodland.

Notes on prices:

The rental price for the cottage is fully inclusive of heating, logs, electricity, bed linen & towels (beach towels not provided).

Please note that the rental prices displayed are based on a weekly rate.

3 day bookings are charged at 60% of weekly rate, 4 days at 70%, 5 days at 80% and 6 days at 90%.

The cottage offers a remote rural environment. The access is via a 2 mile single track lane with passing places which may require patience and occasional reversing. In addition to the wood-burning stove, electric radiators are provided throughout the cottage. WiFi access is provided. Off-road parking is provided adjacent to the cottage. Non smoking only. Sorry but no dogs or pets considered. Please be aware that the cottage is not ideal for anyone of reduced mobility as the shower room / toilet is located on the ground floor and the bedroom is upstairs, also parts of the garden are accessed by steps.

Exceptional cottage and lovely hosts

An excellent, well appointed cosy cottage with a lovely wood burning stove in a brilliant country setting, particularly suited for people looking to get away from their hectic and busy lifestyle. We had a wonderful relaxing time and would love to visit again. We highly recommend this as an exceptional place to stay and would give it more than 5* if we could.

Jane & John had provided a clear set of directions to the local supermarket and cottage and greeted us on arrival with a basket of treats. We were left to settle in and enjoy our surroundings as if they were our own. The whole cottage was spotlessly clean and tidy with good quality bed linen and towels. The kitchen was surprisingly well stocked with matching and modern crockery sets, cooking appliances and even a hand blender! We spent three blissful nights there and easily cooked breakfast each morning and proper meals every evening. The area was beautifully quiet and peaceful with wonderful views from every window.

A detailed guide is provided in the cottage with instructions for the electrical equipment, local amenities and a large selection of DVDs, if that appeals. Jane & John live in the adjacent cottage and were available if needed. We were a short drive away from the Grand Western Canal Country Park and the River Exe. Tiverton is central to the north and south coasts and close enough to Ilfracombe, if you fancy a trip to Lundy.

Just perfect

This is a wonderful cottage for two. It has everything you need for a relaxing stay. We had every weather you could think of while we were here, so the wood burner was a lovely evening treat. There are some lovely walks on the doorstep, and plenty of beautiful scenery to drive to. Sadly the Red Lion at Oakford has closed, but we had a couple of excellent meals at The Bridge at Dulverton.

Thanks to Jane and John, it is a beautiful place to stay.

A very warm welcome by Jane @ John on our arrival , very helpful and a nice basket of goodies to get our holiday started... the accommodation was lovely and the wood burner was a lovely bonus on the chilly evenings . Very clean and tidy inside and out , lovely surroundings very quiet ,perfect if you just want to unwind and relax. the road down was easy to access a typical country road that you would expect in that area .. Tiverton town centre was just a few miles away and being central north and south areas was within easy reach with a car . Plenty of quaint country pubs to visit and with the lovely weather we had in our weeks stay it was a perfect holiday for us. hoping to return next year .....

Idyllic getaway

The owners Jane and John were very welcoming from the start and we were made to feel it was 'our home' for the week. A comfortable well equipped property with lovely wood burning stove. Excellent location if you are looking for a getaway from it all holiday with plenty of places to walk locally, but close enough to Exmoor and the north coast of Devon if you want to explore further afield. Lots of info supplied about local attractions. The Red Lion pub in nearby Oakford village is also worth a visit. Would definitely stay there again.

clean, lovely location, everything you need for a short stay, Jayne & John very nice people

The weather was very changeable but we went to knightshayes, Killerton, Barnstable &Tiverton all these places are so different to each other

The cottage was in a very secluded place so getting there was a bit hard to drive down the road

The gardens of the cottage are great and the river at the side is very restful

Our own property is effectively the only neighbour to the Old Barn.

Spurway is a small hamlet of some 4 properties, about 1½ miles from the village of Oakford. Nearby Bampton (approx 5 miles) and Dulverton (7 miles) have excellent restaurants and pubs and a range of shops. Additional shops and facilities can be found at Tiverton about 8 miles away.

The Exe Valley offers plenty of options for walking, both directly from the cottage, and also on Exmoor which is easily reached via Dulverton within a 15 min. drive

More active pursuits including sailing and canoeing are available at nearby Wimbleball Lake and the area offers ample opportunities for fishing and cycling

The North Devon Coastal town of Barnstaple is just 40 min. away with the surfing beaches of Saunton Sands & Croyde & Woolacombe Bays beyond.

South Devon seaside resorts and Jurassic Coast are within an hours drive.
