About Louise Cannon

My husband and I graduated from Aberystwyth University many years ago. The opportunity to convert a derelict barn came along in 2003 and it was completed in 2005.

We have slowly built up the letting of the barn with many visitors returning year after year.

Louise Cannon purchased this barn in 2003

Why Louise Cannon chose Pontarfynach

Devil's Bridge is a small, peaceful village in the beautiful mountains of Ceredigion. Standing above the Rheidol Gorge it is home to the famous Three Bridges Falls and the Rheidol Narrow Gauge Steam Railway.

Whilst the barn is secluded and peaceful, just 10 miles away there are the facilities of the seaside and University town of Aberystwyth. Many safe beaches along the Ceredigion Coast are readily accessible.

Increasingly the quality and value of dining out has impressed us in this region. From the grandeur of Nanteos Mansion to the multi-cultural eating establishments at Aberystwyth there is plenty on offer. Within walking distance there are tasty meals at the Hafod Arms Hotel. Our visitors also delight in discovering new places and leaving details and ratings at the barn.

What makes this barn unique

The barn offers the benefits of both seaside and mountain activities.

Keen birdwatchers will have heard of the RSPB centre at Ynys Hir (Springwatch) which is to be found along the coast to the North of the barn. To the South there are Dolphin watching trips from Newquay. And just a 15 minute drive from the barn you will find Bwlch Nant yr Arian where you can see the Red Kites being fed every afternoon. Inland you can visit the wetlands of Cors Caron (near Tregaron) with its interesting flora and fauna. Walk along the boardwalk at sunset - breathtaking.

Many of our visitors have been keen cyclists and there are routes for all ability levels in the area.

Walking to every ability level is also on hand and the barn is well resourced with OS maps and suggested routes.

Excellent accommodation in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful barn is well maintained and very comfortable. It is even lovelier than it looks in the pictures and has been very thoughtfully equipped with everything you could need for a winter or summer break. We would love to return. The information provided about the property and the surrounding area was very detailed.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your kind review. The barn is close to our hearts. With considerable help we converted it from derelict some 12 years ago and your appreciation of it is therefore quite important.

What wonderful people

  • 5 of 5

This is somewhat of a unique review, as we didn't end up staying at Cyfiau Bach owing to an unexpected death of a close family member, however I felt compelled to write a review on the basis of the very professional, communicative and selfless way our enquiry, from beginning to end was dealt with. I feel that you can have a beautiful, idyllic holiday let, but if you havent the right management, you've nothing really. On the basis of my experience, in how I was first advised (very detailed, accommodating my enquiries about the local area and how ground level the bedrooms were for my Mum with mobility problems, doing so without any fuss) I couldn't have wanted for more, and will choose this as my very first choice when we do visit the area. Thank you for your superb support and selflessness, an asset to the world of holiday letting.

Relaxing stay

  • 5 of 5

We felt at home as soon as we arrived at the place. It has a lovely feel about it and has everything you need to make for a comfortable stay. There is plenty to do, Devils Bridge village being only a 20 minute walk away from where you can visit the waterfalls and take a pleasant ride on the steam train into Aberystwyth. The scenery is stunning. There are some very nice walks locally and just a 10 minute drive away on the Hafod Estate and at Bwlch Nant Yr Arian Where you can see the red kites being fed every day.

Great Stay

  • 5 of 5

Used the house as a bases while we visited friends in Aberystwyth. Great location (excepting the access road which is very different to American country roads, but we coped), very peaceful, very relaxing. Very new and well equipped. Love the heated slate floors. Would rent again on a future visit.
