Fab holiday with great hosts!

  • 4 of 5

This was our 3rd trip to Aosta with JD Ski. They are great hosts, hence why we keep going back year after year!

We were collected from Turn airport on Sunday, and arrived at the Chalet to a fantastic lunch with a vast selection of local meats and cheeses. We also had 3 3-course meals provided for us throughout the week, cooked by Jane, David and their students Sean and Geoff. We also had wine/beer provided for us.

Breakfast was provided every day, with a selection of freshly cooked eggs, freshly baked bread/toast, cereal, porridge, coffee and teas and other soft drinks. There was also free (return) transfers to the Fornivia every day. When up the mountain, we were separated into groups and given free ski lessons/guiding (for more experienced skiiers/those who did not require lessons) 4 mornings of the week until 13:00. The afternoons were then ours to enjoy skiing and exploring the resort as a group.

They have great connections with the local community, and can recommend fantastic local places to eat/drink, explore, and hire/buy sports equipment. There is plenty of board games, DVD's, books and puzzles in the Chalet to occupy your time when not on the slopes.

Jane and David, and their students, are incredibly hospitable, friendly and professional. The hot tub is an added bonus, after a day of skiing it's a welcome addition to the Chalet!

3 night holiday

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful, warm welcome from our hosts Jane and David. Instantly relaxing so that the three night holiday started the moment we arrived. The chalet receives 10 out of 10 from us for cleanliness, facilities and amazing views. The rooms had so many extra little personal touches that the chalet felt like home from home. Jane and David's warmth, enthusiasm and local knowledge enabled us to experience the local area and I particularly recommend the local vineyard electric bike tour and the wine, food and chalet's jacuzzi went down very well too.

Great place to stay with hospitality to match

  • 5 of 5

Been here 3 times now and it just keeps getting better and better. Everything was taken care of, from getting picked up at the airport to the small group lessons (included in the price), tailored to our ability. The apartment was clean and very comfortable, which made for cosy evenings watching films. Hospitality was spot on with good food and drink. Dave, Jane and co went to great lengths to create a good environment so we could relax and chat with follow guests in the evenings. Skiing is obviously great, which is why I am back for a 4th time next year, thanks guys, Geoff and Curtis

Skiing Holiday in Aosta with JDSki

  • 4 of 5

We had an excellent stay here. David & Jane and their team went to great lengths to make everyone feel welcome and we all felt part of a big family. The accommodation was clean and warm and had everything that was required for our stay. The food cooked was excellent and I really liked the use of local ingredients and recipes for dishes that were still homely and catered for our English customs - the portion sizes were also very generous and the local wines were surprisingly good. We enjoyed the jacuzzi, especially when it was dark and snowing around us.

The accommodation is a 5 minute drive from the gondola ride from Aosta to the ski resort of Pila and we were driven there every morning and collected at the end of the day by minibus. Pila may appear a small resort in terms of number of pistes, but there was a good range in terms of difficulties and different terrains and the snow when we were there was brilliant, with fresh snow falling nearly everyday. There are lots of eateries on the slopes which were all reasonable. It wasn't crowded, apart from the weekend when the local Italians turn up, and the queues at the lifts were minor apart from the first one outside the gondola.

The tuition that David & Jane provided was brilliant. My 18 year old son progressed from a novice to being able to ski black runs confidently and competently within the 4 days of lessons - he was obviously a keen learner, but this is more down to the teaching given and low class sizes meaning that the training was individual in nature and in clear English.

David and Jane really do everything that they can to ensure you have a pleasant stay and get the most of your skiing and their website is a good description of what you'll get and they are very quick to respond to any additional queries by e-mail.

I would thoroughly recommend using them (and have so to my friends) and have already booked again for next year.

Aosta holiday

  • 5 of 5

The presentation of the accommodation was very welcoming when we arrived at the chalet with fresh towels, welcome pack and a brief in the apartment giving local details and directions.

The views from the balcony were stunning and more so were some of the views on the walks we covered. There are lots of activities in the valley to take advantage of, for all ages and interests.

The weather was definitely Mediterranean but pleasant relief was found higher in the mountains on activity days, however on rest days the views from the garden and Jacuzzi are extremely pleasurable.

We particularly enjoyed the ride up Helbronner overlooking Mont Blanc; the views were stunning and there was an unusual amount of unexpected activity which we never thought we would see. Rock climbing, trekking over the snow, camping on the glacier and mountaineers attempting Mont Blanc itself.

Jane and David have a bank of local knowledge and are ready to give advice, point you in the right direction and are even willing to accompany you on some walks with their two adorable cockers, Max and Peluche.

A truly memorable holiday! So much so, we are returning for the winter!

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed your visit and are looking forward to seeing you during the winter with your family for a skiing holiday. David and I will endeavour to ensure that all the family have a good time and that we are able to teach you the basics and enjoyment of skiing especially as we are English Ski Instructors and can guide you with ease and teach you the antiquate of skiing. We also hope you return next summer for some more gruelling walks and also some of those lovely easy ones too on rest days. I haven't been up Helbronner on the new Funivia yet but you sent me some lovely photographs some of which I have posted on our website. Thank you so much, you were great company and see you very soon David and Jane
