Villa in Civitella Casanova, Pescara, Abruzzo, Italy - Peaceful Location, 50 mins from beaches and ski slopes

Detatched country villa on the edge of the Gran Sasso National Park in the Abruzzo countryside between Villa Celiera & Civitella Casanova & within 20 min drive of the ancient town of Penne and 40 mins from the historic town of Chieti. Casa Dante is just a 40 min drive from the coastal town of Pescara with the stunning beaches at Roseto & Pineto set amongst historic pine trees just a few miles further north. The ski slopes of Passo Lanciano and Majelletta nestled in the breathtaking Majella mountain range are just an hours drive away & together with central heating this makes the house extremely versatile & ideal for both summer & winter breaks. The fenced garden is well established with olive, fig, apple & cherry trees. Enjoy the lovely 8m x 4m private swimming pool set into a large lit decking area overlooking the Gran Sasso and Majella mountain ranges and valley below. The views from the pool truly are breathtaking and make the whole experience that little bit more special. Relax on the sun loungers, dine under the shade of the pergola and enjoy an ice cold prosecco on a hot sunny Italian afternoon.

Casa Dante is of typical Italian layout with the living accommodation on the 1st floor comprising a kitchen, dining room, lounge, 3 bedrooms (2 x double, 1 twin) & a bathroom. There are beautiful newly terracotta tiled balconies all around the house providing additional space to relax and enjoy the spectacular views and a new table tennis table for guests to enjoy. The house benefits from retractable fly nets to all windows and balcony doors and FREE WIFI. There is ample parking for several cars.

About Jenny Foxhall

Andrew & I live and work in the UK. Andrew is an Air Traffic Control Consultant and spends a lot of time working overseas and I run my own business. We have three children, two boys and a girl. We fell in love with Italy years ago after my parents had lived in Milan and brought us both here for a holiday when we were younger. We did the normal 'touristy' thing and went on several holidays to Tuscany before adventuring further south to Abruzzo. We fell in love with Abruzzo immediately. The countryside is just stunning and the coastline beautiful with lovely warm summer seas and the people so warm and friendly. We both lead very busy lives and just love being able to plan holidays to our house whenever we get the chance.

Jenny Foxhall purchased this house in 2012

Why Jenny Foxhall chose Villa Celiera

We had been looking for a house for 4 years & after a holiday in Abruzzo, we decided straight away that this was the place for us. Our house is on the edge the Gran Sasso National Park & has fantastic views. It is ideally situated for both summer & winter holidays. We've had a lot of work carried out on it recently including re-rendering the house, a new decking for the swimming pool and newly tiled terracotta stairs and balconies. It's easily accessed from Rome or Pescara Airport where you can hire a car for your stay. A grasp of the Italian language is useful in this area but equally, a good phrase book will serve you well. There is plenty of unspoilt countryside to explore & wildlife to see. And of course the food and wine is just exquisite with lots of traditional local restaurants & pizzeria's.

What makes this house unique

Casa Dante enjoys a stunning location which is private and quiet. Any guest will love the stunning views from the house whilst relaxing around the beautiful 8m x 4m private pool.

Casa Dante is between two small villages, Villa Celiera & Civitella Casanova. Both villages are accessible by car & have a really good range of shops and excellent restaurants meaning that you don't have to travel far to find what you need - Civitella Casanova even has a michelin star restaurant. Civitella Casanova is even rumoured to be the birth place of the regions amazingly delicious local delicacy called 'AROSTICINI' which are very small lamb kebabs cooked to perfection over hot coals. Something which all guests MUST try!!

The stretch of coastline in Abruzzo stretches for miles and is made up of beautiful wide golden sandy blue flag beaches with lovely warm water - the closest only about 45 mins by car.

There are lots of places to visit, from family fun in the Majella Adventure Park (be sure to book), wet fun in the Abruzzo's Aqua Park, canoeing and rafting, to simply enjoying the Majella and Gran Sasso National Parks with all the wonderful scenery, wildlife and places of historic interest

There is a 9 hole golf course just 40 mins and an 18 hole course 50 mins drive from our house.

The Majella and Gran Sasso region also offers mountain biking, trekking, mountaineering, climbing, waterskiing, endless places of interest to visit, wine tasting, beautiful walking, amazing scenery, amazing food and of course amazing people. There are many websites with lots of information about Abruzzo, so have a Google and plan your holiday before coming out. After making a booking we will send you an up to date 'welcome pack' containing a wealth of useful information and places to visit to make you stay even more enjoyable.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A lovely house in a fabulous location with a view to die for

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed the house and the pool and found that the location was great in terms of being in between the mountains and the sea. The peace and quiet was occasionally interrupted by the farmer next door mowing / digging up his land, but this was a minor annoyance and after all the house is in a rural area so fair enough!

A peaceful, away from it all, week in the sun.

  • 5 of 5

We booked as a family of four and two friends for a relaxing week following a few hectic days in Rome. The villa was very spacious and comfortable, well-equipped, and clearly loved by the owners. The view from the balconies and the swimming pool is gorgeous - stunning green mountains by day and clear starry skies at night.

If you really want to do nothing for a week, this place is perfect. But be warned it is very rural and the approach road is potholed which put us off trips out at night. The beach is over an hour away and we found it quite hard to find any restaurants open during the day in the local area although the local village has a great restaurant in evening and shops, market etc. So don't let any of that put you off unless you are a very nervous driver.

The setting is gorgeous, the kids loved the pool, and there's no real need to leave as long as the sun is shining. So stock up at the supermarket, load your kindle, and relax!

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your review, we're delighted you enjoyed your stay. There is indeed an excellent restaurant in Civitella Casanova called 'Macalusa' which we love, but there are some other gems around too in the village and in Villa Celiera. Abruzzo is famed for its local produce and of course 'Arosticini' which are little lamb skewers lightly cooked over hot coals - delicious.

Peaceful place far from the tourist masses

  • 4 of 5

We are a family of 6, and we had a wonderful week at Casa Dante. We enjoyed relaxing by the pool with a view, in the countryside of Italy.

We used the car for the 5 minute drive to Civitella Casanova and Villa Celiera, where they seemed surprised to meet Norwegians!

If shopping or disco are your first priorities, or if your afraid of narrow roads, Casa Dante is not the place for you. However, for experiencing the "real Italy" and beautiful scenery, this is perfect.

In addition to local restaurants, the beach of Francavilla and the town of Penne, we recommend a day going to the Grotte del cavallone.

After a two hour drive you will experience "bird cage" gondols up the mountains and then a guided 1 km walk in spacy caves with stalagmites and so on.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for the review Vigleik, it sounds like you had a lovely time. We have not visited 'Grotte del cavallone' but we will be sure to do so on one of our next visits. One of the things we love about Casa Dante is that it is not a 'tourist trap' and you get to see the 'real Italy' - we hope you did too!

Amazing, tranquil stay at Casa Dante. Perfect way to start our honeymoon

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at Casa Dante from 9th July 2016 and it was the perfect way to start our honeymoon. The villa is lovely and in quite fantastic surroundings resulting in a quiet, relaxing atmosphere...a perfect way to unwind. The villa is well equipped, love the fly nets meaning the doors and windows can be left open all the time, and it feels like a home as opposed to the usual bland holiday villa.

There are supermarkets and lovely restaurants a short drive away. We only ventured out twice to restaurants as it was so nice having a BBQ and a bottle of red (or 2) looking at the wonderful view from the villa. We would definitely recommend La Banderia, very reasonably priced Michelin starred restaurant, and try the chefs taster menu it was excellent.

Jenny and Andrew (villa owners) were incredibly helpful leading up to our holiday and even helped us out while we were travelling on the motorway to the villa so thank you so much guys.

Our stay was wonderful and we can't really put in to words how breath-taking the scenery is and to sit on the balcony with a glass of wine listening to lions roar is a wonderful way to spend an evening if a little surreal.

We would definitely stay again and will always have very fond memories of our honeymoon.

Beautiful location. Fantastic holiday property.

  • 5 of 5

The property owners were excellent at communicating with us before our holiday, providing useful information about the house and local area. The house was just as we expected, from the photos provided. We found it to be clean, spacious and had everything we needed for our family holiday.

The pool and table tennis room were an excellent attraction too.

The house setting was peaceful and the views were fantastic. We enjoyed exploring the local towns and villages, stopping for delicious ice cream and coffee!

We would highly recommend this property for a holiday destination.

Casa Dante has the advantage of being situated within some of the most beautiful mountain ranges in Italy but also has the advantage of being close to some of the most stunning, unspolit beaches too. Pescara (regionial capital) is about a 25 miles away and has lovely sandy beaches and a lively promenade with lots of wonderful restaurants from pizzeria's to fish restaurants serving the local catch. A few miles further north is the beautiful blue flag beach of Pineto (our favourite). The beach is lined for miles with pine trees making the view from the sea back towards land just amazing. Here, under the shade of the pine trees, you can enjoy a picnic and glass of prosecco or dine in one of the many excellent restaurants along the beach. Other beaches worth visiting are Roseto and Montesilvano. All of the beaches are safe, clean and sandy.

The closest airport is Pescara, which is about 23 miles from the house (Ryanair from London Stansted).

Rome Airport - 2 hour 20 minutes drive

Naples Airport - 3 hour dive

Bologna Airport - 4 hour drive

All of the airports have excellent car hire facilities at very competative prices.

The nearest village is Civitella Casanova which is 5 minutes from the house and Villa Celiera which is about 10 minutes.

Penne - 20 minutes

Chieti - 35 minutes

Majella Adventure Park - 35 miles

Passo Lanciano & Majelletta (Ski resort/walking) - 30 miles

Outdoor Go Karting - 15 miles

Calascio Castle ruins - 30 miles

Aqua Parks - 1hr drive

L'Aquila - 45 miles

Roccaraso (Ski resort) - 60 miles

Rome - 2 hour drive

Naples, Pompeii, Herculaneum & Mt Vesuvius - 3 hour drive

The house is situated on the edge of the beautiful Gran Sasso National Park and close to the Majella mountain range, both of which can be seen in all their glory from the house.

Further Details:

Local towns Villa Celiera & Civitella Casanova have numerous shops - bakers, butchers, grocers, mini supermarket, chemist, off licence, gelaterias (ice cream parlours), bars, pizzerias & restaurants, bank & post office, iron mongers, florist etc. There is also a wonderful Sunday street market in Civitella Casanova every week where you can purchase local produce, clothing and freshly cooked 'porchetta'.

Casa Dante is situated on the edge of The Gran Sasso National Park and not far from The Majella National Park, so ideally situated for those that love walking, hiking, mountain biking, skiing (both down hill and cross country), wildlife, picnicking or dining out in the beautiful Campo Imperatore (Gran Sasso) or simply exploring local villages, relaxing and enjoying unspoilt Italy. The stretch of Adriatic coastline is stunning and the golden sandy 'blue flag' beaches are ideal for relaxing by the sea.

Pescara which is the main coastal town has many shops to suit all needs and plenty of excellent restaurants catering for all tastes ranging from pizzeria's to exquisite fish restaurants. Pescara also has an airport with car rental which is just under an hour from the house.

Casa Dante contains many books and information leaflets on the region and local activities. A comprehensive information pack is provided after confirmation of a booking.

The property benefits from retractable fly nets fitted to all windows and balcony doors, beautifully tiled balconies for enjoying the stunning views, a shady pergola to enjoy the afternoon sun and a of course a private swimming pool to relax or have fun in.

All guests are welcomed with complimentary bottles of red and white local Abruzzo wine.
