Apartment in Torre Del Mar, Torre del Mar Area, Costa del Sol, Spain - Within Walking Distance Of Beach, Shops And Nightlife

The town of Torre del Mar is thankfully still very Spanish, so if you want to experience the sort of place where the Spanish themselves live, work and visit for holidays, this is for you. The property is set back a short distance from the beach, just opposite the regional hospital (hopefully of no interest to you during your stay!). It is furnished and equipped to a very high standard, and unusually for an apartment it has a large walled garden with a mixture of grass, terrace and decking. All the main rooms open up onto the covered terrace, which runs round 2 sides of the property. It gets the sun for most of the day, but there are always shaded areas too. Within the small complex, there are two communal pools. There is a well equipped kitchen – but if your idea of a holiday is for someone else to do the cooking (not to mention the washing up) then there are numerous excellent restaurants nearby.

(2017 - please note that I am not yet taking bookings for summer 2017. If you are interested in those dates, do drop me an email and I will happily put you on the waiting list on a first come first served basis. During the high season, I only accept 7 day bookings. As mid-week flights are cheaper during the high season, the start day is a Wednesday.)

Top Class, Quiet, Spacious, Close to all amenities

Apartment: Superb home, clean, very well-equipped and maintained, with lots of space both inside and out. Private, quiet and not over-looked (amazing when so close to sea!) yet easy walking distance (5 mins) to supermarket and beach, and 10 mins to town and water-park.

Private plunge-pool very welcome on hot afternoons and we had communal pool to ourselves 90% of the time. DVD, board-games, and book selections also proved welcome when the sun drove us indoors at siesta time!

For days out, those with car will find the apartment easily accesses the main routes to Granada (1hr 20 mins) , Nerja (20 mins) and Malaga (20 mins), all worth a visit. The roads were excellent - better than UK!

We took bus to Malaga which was as direct as driving and avoided the parking issue - highly recommended and cost about €18 return for 2 adults and 2 children.

Torre Del Mar full of restaurants (Padre Pio best we tried, loads of fish restaurants, barbecue restaurants on beach, La Mamma for pizza, Momentos Café for quick lunch with children). Also good for beach stuff, clothes and souvenirs. Big shopping centre by motorway (back way past waterpark) easy to get to from apartment also.

Thoroughly enjoyed apartment and area - we will be telling our friends and are already considering a return at Easter!

Well Equipped Apartment On A Great Complex

We had a great time staying at this apartment - very well equipped and clean. Our daughters (aged 6 and 4) made good use of the small pool in the rear garden and both the communal pools which we had to ourselves the majority of the time. Walking distance to some great restaurants and bars - would highly recommend.

A fantastic week away

I arrived with my friend and our two children (13 & 15) we all had a fantastic time. The plunge pool was the best as it was so hot we needed to cool off quite a bit (well I did). The apartment had everything you could wish for. The bbq was great as we entertained our family that came around. The main pool was so quiet we had that to ourselves most of the time which was lovely. Penny I would just like to say thank you so much for a lovely week and for the speedy return of our deposit.

As good as we remembered!

This was our second visit to this apartment and yes it was as good as we remembered it!

I think the main point of this place is the huge amount of outside space that you have and it is very quiet and private. The last time we came we thought about hiring bikes and asked the owner if she could recommend anywhere to rent them from. She was extremely helpful and so we had two bikes waiting for us when we arrived. We cycled miles and miles as there are very wide, level cycle paths all over the place. They are very well used and really opened up the surrounding area for us. I would really recommend doing it it was good fun.

The apartment is loverly, well equipped and beautifully clean. The owner is a dream to rent from, nothing seems to be too much trouble and I would not hesitate to recommend this apartment to anyone, especially if you enjoy walking and cycling.

Lovely relaxing break

My partner and I stayed for 12 days in June 2014. Good apartment in lovely quiet complex about 15 minutes walk from the promenade, shops and restaurants. My partner is paraplegic and is a full time wheelchair user. The apartment was suitable although not specifically adapted. The en suite bathroom was accessible for him to use both bath and toilet, all doorways of standard width. The only issue we had was getting onto the patio as the step is a ship door type. The management company were great though and sorted us out with some mdf to use as make shift ramps. Once outside the patio is fantastic and the real luxury of this apartment. The complex itself was small. Lovely pool which we swam in every day with no one else around at all - perfect! It is a bit of a slope down to the front so a bit of an effort to wheel the chair back in the evening but we managed with a few stops along the way. The owner very kindly bought in some food and drink provisions for us as we didn't have a car. This was brilliant as it was a fair walk to the nearest supermarket - thank you again Penny. The resort is great, typically Spanish which we much prefer. Very reasonable prices for meals and drinks. Amazing promenade, we walked / wheeled the length of it in both directions throughout the holiday. The local buses are accessible too and we went to velez malaga one day. It is a big shame that the tram system is no longer running. We will definitely consider returning to this apartment and maybe hiring a car next time.

What a gem!

My friends and I were looking for a flat in Southern Spain for a short break - we found this wonderful place in Torre del Mar.

This is a ground floor flat, beautifully appointed - 2 good bedrooms with ensuite to the master, a great lounge/diner and well fitted and very well equipped kitchen. The bonus is a large, very attractive garden with good quality outdoor furniture (plenty of sun loungers/seating), a plunge pool with decking and well planted with a variety of flowers - such a great place to relax after a day at the beach!

The property was immaculately clean and obviously well maintained - it certainly lived up to its description. The owner was extremely helpful in providing local information and in organising a reasonably priced taxi from the airport and had left a book with very useful information, from technical info (how the boiler worked etc) to information regarding restaurants and the surrounding area.

The property is of very high quality from the fittings to the soft furnishings. It's also vey well located in a very nice development within walking distance of the town and beach - there is an excellent, cheap bus service (the stop is a 3 minute walk from the complex)if you don't feel like walking.There is also a very nice communal pool.

The town itself is well served for restaurants and has a good beach - one of the best aspects for us was that it is very Spanish and so the prices are extremely reasonable! The locals are very friendly and most of them speak English. There is a pedestrianised road in the centre of town leading down to the beach area with loads of restaurants and bars. There is a weekly market on Thursdays which is excellent and there's also a small evening market. There are good bus links to Malaga, Sevilla and Granada if you fancy venturing further afield.

We would thoroughly recommend this property to friends and family and in fact are in the process of planning another visit next year!

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Malaga at 50 Kilometres Car: not necessary

Coast/Beach:

Torre del Mar has one of the longest and widest beaches along the coast, almost four kilometres of sand (though not the pure white stuff!) running the entire length of the town and, on average, about forty metres wide. It has plenty of beach bars (chiringuitos) and sunbeds/shades available for hire. The apartment is approx. 10 minutes walk away.

The lovely little port of Caleta is a short drive away, and there are also nice beaches in nearby Torrox and Nerja.

Travel:

The nearest airport is Malaga, approximately 48 Km away. Normal travel time is about 35-40 minutes (though allow extra if travelling in rush hour). A car is not essential unless you want to explore the area - shops, restaurants and beach all within a 10-15 minute walk.

Distances:

The traditional Spanish town of Velez Malaga is a few minutes drive away. Malaga is only 30-40 minutes drive and is well worth a visit, especially for shopaholics, or for visiting the Picasso Museum. In the opposite direction is Nerja where the caves are worth visiting, as are the beaches. Granada can be reached in about 2.5 hours (though do remember to book tickets in advance if you are planning a visit to the Alhambra Palace).

Further Details:

The town has many individual shops, and a night market along the lovely promenade. There are numerous excellent restaurants, and the fresh seafood at the beach bars is to be recommended. There is a large retail park, El Ingenio, a few minutes drive from the apartment (open 10 am to 10 pm Monday to Saturday). There is also a water park within walking distance of the apartment.

For the younger generation there are a selection of bars and discos by the beach, open until late. For those of more mature years, the good news is that they are all grouped together and well out of hearing from most of the town and certainly from the apartment.

Arrival 4pm, Departure 10 am. Changeover day is flexible out of season. For 2016 changeover day is Thursday in high season to avoid airlines higher charges at weekends. For 2017 it will be Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday (depending on the first booking). Bookings for high season 2017 will be open from early November - but please email before then if you wish to be put on waiting list. I will always try to accommodate your requirements.

Outside: The walled garden is private and well-equipped for outside living. There are two outside dining tables and 8 chairs. On the terrace is a gazebo with a retractable cover and floor lights. This is furnished with a two-seater rattan sofa and two matching chairs. There are two sun-loungers, 4 lounger chairs and two footstools. There is a small plunge pool and outside shower. Please note that the pool is accessible via decking steps, and is not within a gated area. There is a barbeque and also an outside cooking area with power points, and a patio heater. Within the small complex there is a large rectangular pool and a round children's pool, both within a gated area (normally open June to September).
