Studio Flat In Lovely Rural Setting

Apartment in Hartland, North Devon, England - Wounderful Area For Walking And Easy Access To Sea And Coastal Path

A simple open plan studio wih an upstairs mezzanine bedroom in the small hamlet of Cheristow within the parish of Hartland. We can see the sea and are a 20 minute walk from the cliffs and Bury Beach. It is also 20 minutes walk through the woods to the village in which there are food shops, 4 pubs, a post office, 2 potteries and a cabinet maker. Local sights include Docton Mill Gardens, Hartland Abbey and St Nectans Church. There is a cafe serving teas and lunch in the Lavender Farm at the top of our lane. There is a walled flower garden, a vegetable plot, 4 ducks and 2 cats. The flat is well insulated and we generate some of our own electricity with solar panels.

We stayed here, looking for a quiet, relaxing break for a long weekend. It ticked all our boxes. The owner made us feels really welcome and it was nice to know they were never far away if we needed anything. We didn't explore to much on this visit, but will return in the summer to explore further. The cottage itself is basic, but met all our needs.

Peaceful stay in stunning surroundings

We had a very relaxing week long break. The cottage was homely, with cream teas when we arrived and Julia made us feel very welcome and gave us local produce from her garden. It is just a short walk through lovely woodland to Hartland village where there are pubs and shops. The coastline is stunning and we had ready printed out maps for walking. We really could not have asked for more from our hosts who provided a lovely little 'home from home' in which to explore the exceptional local scenery and unwind from busy lives in tranquil surroundings. Would highly recommend!

Nearest Airport : Bristol at 200 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : The Hart Inn at 2 Kilometres Nearest Train : Barnstaple at 25 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : A39 at 25 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Hartalnd at 2 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Berry at 1 Kilometres Car: recommended


The coast is rocky with cliffs but there is access to beaches with sand and pebbles. There are beaches within walking distance and others that can be driven to.


A car is needed to explore a lot of the area but there is a railway station in Barnstaple and coaches to Bideford. Local buses go a few times a day to Bideford and Barnstaple.


Hartland village is 2 miles away, Bideford 14 miles. Hartland Abbey and the Lavender Farm are within walking distance. There are many other attraction within driving distance.

Booking is by phone or email. A £50 deposit is required and the rest of the payment is due 2 weeks before arrival by cheque or paypal. Booking are taken preferable for a week but 3 day booking are possible.

Changeover Day:
Saturday is the preferred change-over day but on short breaks there is flexibility. Arrivals are preferred after 2 pm and departures before noon.

  • Notes on accommodation: It is simple accommodation in a beautiful area. The bedroom space is accessible by a staircase and is a bed space. The living area is bright and airy. Outside: There is access to a walled flower garden with an arch of apple & pear trees. A table and chairs are available. This garden is shared with the owners. Utility Room: There is a washing machine on the ground floor. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen is provided but no towels. I do the cleaning before each new rental.
