Cottage in Beddgelert, Snowdonia National Park, Wales - In The Heart Of The Snowdonia National Park

Lovely grade 2 listed stone cottage in the beautiful village of Beddgelert, perfectly situated in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park with lovely river and mountain views. Ty Popty features a lovely warm Aga in the kitchen as well as a woodburner in the living room. The house is full of character and is equipped with a Playstation, games and books to help keep the whole family entertained. Ty Popty is in the heart of Beddgelert one of the prettiest villages in North Wales and a great base for exploring Snowdonia. The many nearby delights include a wealth of walking and climbing, lovely sandy beaches (Black Rock Sands or Criccieth are both approx 7 miles away), the castles of Harlech, Caernarfon and Conwy and the Welsh Highland Railway which runs through Beddgelert.

About Ruth Marshall and Penny Taylor

Hello! We are Penny and Ruth - a mother and daughter who have enjoyed holidaying in Snowdonia for many, many years. In 2000 we bought Ty Popty in our favourite village in the world - Beddgelert! We fell in love with Ty Popty as soon as we walked in; it is the old village bakery, and is full of character.

Ruth Marshall and Penny Taylor purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Ruth Marshall and Penny Taylor chose Beddgelert

We are keen walkers and love the proximity of Ty Popty to the fantastic walking that Snowdonia offers. Its also a perfect destination for Ruth's young family, who love splashing about in the river and trips to the nearby beaches.

What makes this cottage unique

We can do as little as we want when we holiday in Ty Popty - the village has everything we need if we don't want to venture too far, but there is also a huge wealth of activities and days out nearby!

Returning from a long day's walking to the friendly warmth of the Aga is unbeatable, as is sitting in front of the woodburner in the upstairs living room, watching out over the pretty river running past the house.

Half term break at Ty Popty

  • 5 of 5

Just back from a fabulous break at Ty Popty! From it's beautiful location next to the river to the very welcoming warmth of the Aga oven in the kitchen (it was February after all) the whole experience was the perfect antidote to modern life. Not that you will have to forgo any of life's luxuries. WiFi, smart TV and even a PlayStation are provided if you need a digital fix. Tear yourself away from the comfy leather recliners next to the crackling log burner and you will find some the best walking country the UK has to offer. A short drive and you are at the coast where you can build sand castles or visit real ones.

Beddgelert itself offers 3 pubs that we counted and many more places to eat. Everywhere we tried offered a friendly welcome and good food.

The acid test of any recommendation is the question would we go back? The answer from every member of the family was a resounding yes! We even had to contend with tears from our youngest one when we said it was time for home.......

Welsh mountain heaven

  • 5 of 5

Just spent a most enjoyable 5 nights at ty popty with my husband and 9 year old daughter. This cottage has everything just as described and pictured but proves even nicer in the flesh. The property is spacious, warm and comfortable, extremely clean, well decorated and well maintained. The Aga is a real bonus and offers a cosy welcome on a return from a long walk in the fresh mountain air or after a trip to the nearby beaches. The beds are comfortable and the towels are fluffy and plentiful. The views from the cottage over the river are hard to beat and for that reason, I found it difficult to urge my husband from the leather chair in the upstairs bay window!

We must mention the Tanronnen inn just across the bridge. We ate in here twice and found the food tasty and good value. Other nights I cooked meals without any problem in the Aga- also made some cupcakes with my daughter.

We really had a super holiday and cannot fault anything about the cottage at all. We would thoroughly recommend a stay here for the quality of the accommodation and the perfect location for exploring Snowdon, Portmeirion, Criccieith, Betws-y-Coed to mention but a few. There are also many walks from the village if you don't wish to drive out any day.

Lastly, I must thank owners Penny & Ruth who offer a fantastic customer service throughout the booking process and they are happy to go the extra mile to answer any questions and offer any advice required.

All in all - wonderful !!!

Just returned from a great, long weekend in Ty Popty. So cosy, everything we wanted and very clean- perfect for us and our three grown up children! Excellent location as shop, pubs and walks a stone's throw away. Also good position to get to Snowden which we all managed to reach the top of despite wind and rain. Weekend completed by amazing visit to zip wire world half an hour away at Bethseda! Fastest zip in the world- we were all very brave and came off just wanting to do it again!

Ty Popty

Absolutely wonderful! Owners Penny & Ruth friendly & helpful, left us tea & welshcakes & lots of useful info. Cottage itself is cosy, spacious, warm, relaxing & homely. Well equipped with electronics, books, spacious tasteful rooms (dbl ensuite, dbl & twin, dining room, lounge, bathroom) kitchen ware, and an AGA oven in the kitchen. My friends commented "it's like a tardis". Perfect location in the village means you can pop out to the local whilst (superb) roast is in the oven. Step out the front door onto the road with river immediately opposite (and calming sound & views from inside). Also ideally situated for walking/sightseeing around Snowdonia, as a base for exploring North Wales, or like me riding a motorbike on stunning local roads. Bikers beware, one week isn't enough as there are so many awesome roads here. Felt superbly welcome & comfortable staying at the cottage for a week, we didn't want to leave. Planning on returning with friends as we all loved it. Can't praise this place enough - highly recommended!

The house seems to have been put together by people who understand what self catering is all about. The kitchen has everything you might want and more! The arga might take a wee bit of time to get used to, but this felt like a real cooks kitchen. The information supplied is also great - information on walks up Snowdon came in VERY handy, we nearly tried the Watkins path until we found the little book all about the different paths up Snowdon! The games console was also very handy for a bit of "downtime" for the adults. The only drawback is the front door opens onto the road through Beddgelert. But in all it's a lovely little cottage and good value for money too.
