About the Owner

Goonlaze Cottage is owned by Terry and Helen Catt, their three daughters and various fury friends... We bought our beloved cottage in 2002 while living and working in Hampshire so that we could spend more time in Cornwall with our family (three children and three dogs made us difficult to accommodate on a frequent basis!). In 2010 we undertook a total renovation of the cottage and couldn’t bare to leave again! In 2013 we found a nearby family home and made our move to Cornwall more permanent. Having invested so heavily both financially and emotionally in our cottage we are now very excited about the prospect of sharing our unique and beautiful cottage with others!

Autumn break

This is simply the best UK holiday we have ever had, at this time of year. From the minute we arrived we felt at home in this gorgeous cosy cottage. Everything was spotlessly clean. The kitchen was equipped with everything we would possibly need. The beds were snuggly and warm. The upstairs living room was a great place to watch films and generally chill out. The local beaches were wonderful, especially Perranporth, which our dogs loved. We also had great days out in Newquay and Truro. The village shops, restaurants and take-aways made the stay particularly good, as they were all within walking distance. The owner Helen was fantastic, bringing us loads of extra wood for the log burner and generally being on hand should we need anything. Extra touches like the cream tea, milk and juice which she provided for our arrival were much appreciated. We have already recommended this property to several friends and family, especially the dog owners amongst them. We will be staying here again for sure.

'Best Family Holiday'

  • 5 of 5

If you are like us a family looking for great accommodation with no compromises, a village location within walking distance to a beach, and short driving distances to many other places. Relaxing, luxury and fun..... then this is the place!!!

Goonlaze Cottage is fantastic. The welcome as you open you front door to find a warming aga, a note from the owner and home made scones with jam and cream is perfect. The personal touches for our two daughters made it all the more special. The cottage has everything you can imagine and much more to make a family holiday fun, easy and relaxing.

Our twin daughters who NEVER sleep past 7am - slept until 9am...... the homely, safe environment coupled with the sea air was a definite winning combination. The family hot chocolates in the farmhouse style kitchen after surfing, the evening drinks on the decking watching the sunset with my husband, and the brunches in the dining area makes the whole home family orientated.

The area has everything you need within walking distance and just enough of everything to still make St Agnes feel like a cornish village. The cafe half way down to beach is a great place with friendly staff, hot coffee and tasty ice cream. The lady in the surf shop is also fab with great knowledge and information.

Easy driving distance to Perranporth, Newquay, Porth Chapel and Porthtowan it is a fantastic location, and when you return home to Goonlaze, with an easy parking space and relaxing environment it makes a perfect holiday.

The owners have thought of everything and the whole cottage is done to a high standard, you felt like you owned the cottage for the week without being intrusive. The owners are discreet yet on hand via phone should you need anything.

Even if it rains, playing games, watching a movie or baking in the kitchen is great with lots of room and everything available.

We will definitley be returning, and I am a little resistant at leaving a review in case many others find our piece of 'luxury family heaven'

Thank you very much a for a lovely week - we will be back.

Coast/Beach:

There are many beautiful beaches in Cornwall to explore and the cottage sits between two, the family friendly, life-guarded (Easter to September) beach of Trevaunce Cove, which has restaurants, shops and of course ice cream and is famed for its excellent surf and interesting rock pools, caves and history. To the other side there is the more wild and natural, quiet, dog friendly beach at Trevellas. For further exploration the scenic north coast cliffs and coastal path is just round the corner.

Travel:

By car the A30 is just 10 minutes drive. Newquay airport is 40 mins drive and offers flights via Flybe to Gatwick and Easy jet to Southend. Truro railway station is 20 mins drive. The cottage is also close to bus stops running to Perranporth, Newquay, Truro etc.

Distances:

The shops, restaurants and attractions of the beautiful St Agnes village is just a few minutes walk from the cottage. The village has a lively events calendar including carnivals, processions, street fairs and many other events throughout the year all within walking distance.

Further Details:

St Agnes includes a fab bakery, takeaways (Pizza, fish & chips, Chinese),two convenience stores, chemists, cashpoint, butchers, greengrocers, boutiques, beauticians, art, craft shops, newsagents, surfer shop and many more. There are plenty of places to eat right on the doorstep; The Tap House (which offers live music) and No.4 Bistro (booking highly recommended) where they serve a Sunday brunch to die for, Genki - amazing smoothies and cocktails!
