Relaxing Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We heard about Villa Fleur and Moraira from friends who raved on that this little area is Spain's best kept secret. As we needed a total break from a difficult year this seemed the ideal solution. Neither disappointed. Villa Fleur is just delightful. The views are lovely and an aura of calm enveloped us. A week here should be on the National Health. You only hear the birds singing and crickets chirping, it is so peaceful. The villa is extremely comfortable and felt home from home. The owners have put a lot of effort into making it so, the loving care is obvious. I would recommend new photographs to show off the new furniture especially outside. It is even nicer than it appears. It is an older villa but has more character and a homeliness that new bland villas cannot achieve. Now we know why the locals whisper 'don't tell anyone how nice it is here' and want to keep Moraira a hidden gem. It is perfectly formed and totally charming. A village by the sea where the restauranteurs, the shopkeepers, in fact everybody has a smile on their face and clearly adores where they live. The countryside and surrounding towns are well worth visiting but in the future we shall stay put. Moraira has everything. So many wonderful restaurants, bars and coffee shops, many with views to die for. Gorgeous coastline with proper footpaths. Le Dauphin at El Portet is a most exquisite restaurant and the food inspired. We very much look forward to returning to Villa Fleur but like everybody else we don't like to mention it!

Relaxed Quality Holiday.

  • 5 of 5

Six adults ( well OK pensioners!) stayed here for eight days. The villa is well situated although initially not easy to locate unless you have satnav. Once there we found it well equipped ( apart from the downstairs fridge freezer which failed to work, Chris is ordering a new one, and the downstairs bed which apparently sank in the middle). The views were great with the sun arriving on the villa at around 11.am giving us a comfortable start to the day. Although other reviews mention a short walk to the beach we found it took approx 20 mins downhill and easily double that to return ( we are pensioners!). We hired cars and found the road up to the villa from the beach was mainly in first gear as the roads are bendy and quite steep in some areas.

The villa was well laid out with the kitchen areas more than adequate, roomy bedrooms with a/c and overhead fans which, in October, were fine to keep the rooms cool. Outside the hot tub was welcoming and the pool refreshing. Chris and James visited us towards the end of the holiday and their daughter Fleur was present on our arrival.

The area of Moraira is less touristy than the larger towns of Benidorm and Calp which we visited as they were in easy driving distance. We also spent a day in Valencia which was about an hour and a half away. We had very good tapas and meals in Moraira however we found that the further out of town, the better and less expensive the bars became.

The market in Moraira on Fridays is well worth a visit, and luckily when we were there a German style beer fest was held over the weekend.

Overall we would highly recommend this villa, especially if you are looking for a quiet quality break. However in my opinion a car is a must, unless you are fit and healthy and enjoy walking.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the informative review. Moraira and El Portet is very good for walking but we do recommend a rental car. It helps that the main supermarkets, ie the excellent Pepe La Sal, deliver free of charge. The queen bed base was faulty and replaced as soon as we were informed. We live locally so always on hand to offer guidance or advice if needed.

Lovely villa in stunning location

  • 4 of 5

The villa was as described and everything clean and well prepared except for the child's cot which was found to be broken. The owner's daughter brought us a child's bed but we had to improvise for the first night.

There were 6 adults and two toddlers in our party and the layout of the accommodation worked well. My daughter and her husband and the 2 children occupied the rooms on the lower floor whilst the other 4 adults took the upper floor.

All the bedrooms are air conditioned but the other areas are not. The kitchen on the upper floor whilst not large, is adequate although the lack of a full width dishwasher is a disadvantage. There is a full width dishwasher in the outside kitchen but this is not fully equipped with pans etc. The fridge freezer in the outside kitchen is useful for storing water and other items but probably needs replacing as the temperature is not low enough.

My daughter who slept in the double room on the lower floor says that the mattress needs replacing as it seems to be dipping in the middle and gave her back ache. The only room not shown in the pictures is the double room without en suite on the upper floor. The decor is disappointing and is probably the final room to be updated as all the other rooms are stylish and fresh looking.

The villa is not particularly suited for toddlers but you could say that of any villa abroad. The stairs shown in the photograph connect the lower and upper parts of the villa. There are no internal stairs.

The pool is a good size and cleaned on a regular basis. The area where the steps exit the pool is treacherous when wet and we had to be extremely vigilant with the children. Our solution was to place towels at that point and train the children to walk on the astro turf and then on to the edge of the pool before jumping in. The other side of the pool is tiled and is lethal for children with wet feet.

It is a nice walk into El Portet where we had lunch one day and drinks one evening before walking in to Moraira. Moraira has plenty of nice restaurants and there is a good beach just beyond the Castle.

There is a villa under construction below the villa and it was not possible to tell if this would obscure any views in the future.

All in all we enjoyed our stay and would recommend Villa Fleur, the owners and Fleur their daughter!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to leave a good review of your stay at Villa Fleur in El Portet, Moraira, we appreciate your feedback. Unfortunatly we didn't realise the cot was broken by previous guests until you notified us. We immediately ordered a new one & brought a replacement child's bed the next day. You'll be pleased to hear the cot has now been replaced, in addition to the small child's bed. Again, I apologise for the faulty cot & the first night where you had to improvise - you were very patient and understanding despite this, which we appreciated. We are glad to hear your group enjoyed the layout and facilities of the villa. A little puzzled regarding your comment about the slippery exit for the pool. During previous rennovations we replaced the tiles with non-slip natural stone. We also leave rubber mats outside on the pool deck so you shouldn't have required towels on the floor. The natural stone continues around the edge of the pool, which you didn't consider slippery so I'm a bit confused by your comment. Of course, we never recommend leaving children unattended and running around swimming pools is prohibited. We leave all the pots and pans in one kitchen so guests can see everything in one place on arrival. Guests are then free to redistribute as they see fit between the two kitchens. Please point out faulty appliances during your stay so we can replace or repair as soon as possible. There is a full size 60cm dishwasher downstairs & a 45cm compact dishwasher upstairs, plus a large kitchen sink with drainage board for any excess items. Sorry to hear you daughter suffered with back problems. It has been replaced. Thankfully the neighbouring villa does not obscure the mountain views and lovely sunsets at Villa Fleur, and will look more attractive when the finishes are completed early next year. We are also working on more shaded areas and to make future stays more enjoyable. We are glad you enjoyed your stay at Villa fleur, and thank you for your constructive points. Guests are encouraged to mention any problems during their stay, so we can fix and address asap. We strive to create an enjoyable stay for our guests and are always making improvements and changes to suite the needs of our guests and we rely on feedback to achieve this. We hope you book with St George's Villas again in the future. All the best!

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

What a great all round villa. So much space for our group with two kitchens being a massive bonus. The pool was great, as was the hot tub and we never got bored of the amazing views. It was a short stroll down the road to the lovely beach in El Portet which wasn't huge, but was perfect for us. The sea was as calm as can be, which made our first paddle boarding experience very enjoyable (must try - board hire at the beach). Moraira was a further 15 minute walk around the coastline, which is stunning. We also took the up on the recommendation to have a paella night at the villa which was brilliant. Speak to the owner for more details, but Fleur (the owners daughter) was very helpful and professional and delivered a great evening for us. And off course was the owner Chris, who couldn't have done more for us during the pre booking questions, to the booking and was even on hand during our stay. Deposit arrived back to us within a couple of days of our holiday ending making the whole trip faultless. Hope to book here again soon. :)

Owner's Response: Thank you for such a lovely review following your stay at Villa Fleur. We appreciate the time taken to leave your comments and so happy to gear you enjoyed the villa's amenities. El Poret is a fantastic beach for stand up paddle boarding and other water sports. The bay is protected by the landscape so the sea is usually calm - perfect for learners and children. We ewere so glad you enjoyed the paella by David's Dinner Parties. I hope the cheesecake went down well afterwards. You were a lovely group, left the villa well and wed love to welcome you back to stay at Villa Fleur one day in the future.

Well-equipped villa in beautiful area

  • 4 of 5

Villa Fleur was just as described and the self-contained downstairs accommodation was ideal for two couples, one with a small child. It's an easy downhill walk into El Portet, which has a couple of nice bars and a much more expensive restaurant. We caught the kids' road train into Moraira a couple of times (the toddler *loved* it) and at only 3 euros return, it's a bargain. (It runs from the car park in El Portet to Moraira centre, but times vary.) The beaches at Calpe and Javea are nice, and we also spent a day in Valencia, which is very impressive. All in all, an attractive, spacious and well-equipped villa in a lovely part of Spain. Highly recommended.

Lovely home from home.

  • 4 of 5

Just come back from a weeks stay at Villa Fleur to celebrate my 50th birthday. On day of arrival there had been a storm and it was pouring with rain and the central heating wasn't working. But we expected the weather to be a bit hit and miss at this time of year. That is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5 as it was cold in the night but overall the villa was as expected. Clean and fully equipped. My daughter, husband and friend arranged for a chef to to come and cook on my birthday and the meal was lovely. There was also a bespoke birthday cake made for me. The villa is situated on a hill and it is a strenuous walk back up from El Portet and the town but it was good exercise and it was our choice not to hire a car. The hot tub is a lovely luxury addition and was used often by us and our children. I would definitely recommend this villa to others. In the summer months you really wouldn't need to have heating and the storm we encountered was a rarity according to everyone we spoke to so probably doesn't really matter about the heating anyway. But if going out of season, may be something you want to check on. However, the owner was very accommodating and brought us heaters when she realised the heating was not working. My grandchildren absolutely loved it and my 5 year old granddaughter declared it was 'the bestest holiday she had ever had as the villa, or villa, as she called it, felt like a proper home. That's good enough for me!! Thank you Chris Pacey, for yor excellent customer service before during and after or stay. We will return.
