About Abigail Gascoyne

We are a family from Oxford who love the sea and visit when we can.

Abigail Gascoyne purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Abigail Gascoyne chose Purbeck

We love the area and have been camping in Swanage for years. We now have two young boys and wanted to enjoy holidays in England even when its raining! There is loads to do round here whatever the weather. We bought in Wareham as it is still a lively, friendly place in the middle of winter.

What makes this cottage unique

We have finished Church Street to a really high standard and think its practical yet cosy. It's in a fab location in the town and the courtyard garden is a peaceful sanctuary hidden away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A Hidden Gem

We stayed in this beautiful cottage and had an amazing week. The owners have refurbished the cottage to a very high standard and have thought of everything. We take our dog everywhere with us and she was made welcome too. There is so much to do in the area so we will definitely be booking another week.

Superb accomodaton. Great location. A winner

  • 5 of 5

The property is in excellent condition and lovingly maintained. The standard of appliances in the kitchen was top notch. We loved the glass roof and glass doors to the garden. Although Sainsbury is close by, didnt really hear much noise.

The lounge was very comfy for a relaxing glass of wine when returning. Bathroom - loved the shower. Also by the WC is the best mobile phone reception in Wareham.

Beds very comfy and the duvet just oozed around me.

The second bedroom was big enough for our 2 grown up sons.,

Garden is great to relax in , we did BBQ a couple of times and the kitchen and the garden seemed to be just joined. Was really easy to move from one to the other.

Great having the free parking in the carpark by the church, really made a difference and thank you for that, Abergail.

The cottage makes a superb base for Dorset, close to the Swanage railway and Monkey World. I didnt get time to visit the tank museum.

The coast is pretty close and we did the inevitable Lulworth Cove - along with about 2000 other cars. Much preferred Studland for walking along the sand. National Trust, so we parked for free. But miles of sand and able to take the dog on a lead.

Short drive to Poole, had a wander, lunch in La Lupa on West Quay. They did a lovely lunch menu, bery reasonably priced. I had the home made Lasagne. It was delicious.

Wareham eateries. Recommend the Quay Inn. Very nice, good beer and good food. Duke of Wellington around the corner great food - very good standard. The Salt Pig deli. excellent breakfast.

I walked the dog in the morning and we enjoyed the walk along the walls. Not very hard and superb views watching deer wandering by the river Piddle.

In the entrance way from the High Street to Sainsbury, there is Kaffs Coffee Pot. I urge you to visit. They do a marvelous packed lunch, with doorstop sandwich and I mean doorstop. apple, biscuits, carton of juice, crisps and a muffin, normally homemade by mum. All for less than a fiver. I discovered this on our last day, so did not take advantage of the doorstep bacon sandwich for breakfast.

You have to go to the Indian and Nepal restaurant 29029 (height of Everest). It was the best meal I have ever had in an Indian. Brilliant food, excellent modern twist. Its about 10 mins away. I had Hariyali Lamb. Beautiful Ghurka dish.

Overall, superb accomodation, great base for travelling around and enough local eateries to save driving. Would recommend.

Just perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We thought the cottage looked lovely from the photos and it turned out to be even better. It has been refurbished as beautifully and tastefully as you could hope for. The kitchen/diner has glass doors all across the back, opening out into the garden and making it really light and airy. The kitchen appliances are all much better quality than anywhere we've stayed before. We found the bed very comfortable and both slept really well all week.

The cottage is in the centre of Wareham which made everything easily accessible and yet it was still quiet, despite Sainsbury's being so close. We used Sainsbury's more than we expected to, just because it was so handy. The down side of being in a town centre is that you can't leave the car outside but that's a trade off that was worth making. Especially as the parking permit meant parking was free.

Wareham turned out to be a very good location for exploring the area, we went to some lovely places without needing to travel very far at all. We will definitely return to the area and to this lovely cottage and we're not normally ones for going back to places. In fact, we had such a wonderful week it was quite a wrench to leave!

Top quality cottage in a great location!

  • 5 of 5

The owners have created a really comfortable cottage, with all home comforts. It is beautifully furnished and kitted out with everything you could need for a comfortable stay. Some reviewers found the main bed very comfortable; we would say we found it a bit soft, but it's personal choice. We always take our own summer weight duvet to any holiday let, as we find the duvets provided are usually far too hot and heavy for summer!

We decided to choose a town centre location, for convenience to pubs, restaurants and shops and drive out to beaches etc during the day. Having previously had a touring caravan and stayed in rural locations, staying in town proved very successful. We know the area very well having caravanned there for several years and we still haven't done everything we would like to because the weather insists on being beautiful each time we visit and the Studland beaches beckon us!

Swanage is a great day out, using the steam train from Norden Park & Ride if you fancy a treat (great views of Corfe Castle!). Weymouth, Dorchester, Poole and Bournemouth are all within striking distance for a day out by car or bus/train. We would also recommend the Blue Pool at Furzebrook for a beautiful walk (not too long and there are buggy/wheelchair-suitable paths) and a lovely English Tea Rooms to look forward to at the end of your walk.

The town is charming and interesting - lots of independent shops (butcher, baker, fish, deli), plus mini-versions of some household names e.g. Boots and Sainsbury's, which is just around the corner from this cottage so super-handy! Plenty of great local pubs, all of which do food and seem to welcome kids and dogs. Good selection of restaurants of all types, within walking distance.

We appreciated the fact that the owners provide a pass for the long-term car park; this is a real bonus as parking is pretty tricky as can only be expected in a Saxon walled town! Trying to unload outside the cottage on a Saturday afternoon was interesting - our car caused absolute chaos and we were only there five minutes, whilst we (almost literally) threw everything through the front door!

My parents visited us for the day, fell in love with it and immediately booked a week in September! Book this place if you like the look of it - we are sure one day, there will be so many return visitors, you won't get a look in!
