Overview

About the property

Cottage in Charlestown, St Austell, Cornwall, England - Charlestown Is The Home Port Of Square Sail Tall Ships Used In Film Pro

Just 200 metres from the beach, beautiful coastal walks and minutes from a variety of restaurants and pubs, this pretty fisherman's cottage is set in a quiet corner of Charlestown, within an English rose garden at the front, whilst at the back there is a small Mediterranean-style, secluded courtyard, with white-washed stone walls, hidden candle light and tubbed palms.

Sunnyside is a warm and welcoming cottage which has been refurbished to give a light and homely feeling retaining many of its traditional features. The large well equipped galley kitchen is beamed and has plenty of work surfaces.

Although the shower room and toilet is quaint and bijou, it accommodates a full sized shower. Both of the bedrooms have window seats and ample room for clothes storage.

Charlestown’s harbour, which is flanked by beaches, can be viewed from the double bedroom. There are sections of Cornwall coastal path to enjoy within easy access!

About Amanda Brewer

I was born in Cornwall and spent my early years in St. Ives. My work took me to this area. We have lived in Charlestown since 1998 and during our time here we have witnessed many changes, all for the better in my opinion. Charlestown has numerous eateries catering for both families and/or couples. There are many craft and souvenir shops tucked away and much more. We not only enjoy living by the sea, but also love the country walks on our doorstep. It is wonderful to be able to eat out, drink and enjoy the sea and countryside without having to get in our car. During the film making many people come to watch. It's an exciting time in Charlestown when the film crew arrive and the sets are built. We have been extras in some of the films made here! Another lovely time of the year is when the sea is wild and stormy, our small harbour is terrorised by raging spectacular waves. There is a great sense of community in Charlestown, which has contributed to us staying here for so many years! Although we have travelled extensively, we always love coming home and still appreciate this little gem where we've lived so happily.

Amanda Brewer purchased this cottage in 2000

Cosy Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a 4 night stay in this very comfortable and quaint cosy cottage, which had everything you need. Lovely town with nice pubs & restaurants, very close to harbour & beach (2 mins). We travelled around Cornwall every day and found this an ideal location to do this. Definitely worth a visit, would recommend to anyone.

Very pretty cottage

  • 4 of 5

Sunnyside is a very pretty cottage right in the hub of everything without being invasive or noisy. Just where you want to be to stroll to pubs restaurants and the sea. Inside it is very quaint and cosy. The lounge and dining room are ample as is the entrance porch. Good sized kitchen but the back end of it seems to be a bit of a wasted space. The main bedroom is at the front and is a good size but the second bedroom is very small. The main problem for us was the lack of water power in the shower, very difficult to rinse shampoo out of hair. We are also used to the bedlinen being supplied in the price of the stay. We still enjoyed our short break though. The only other thing is we have never stopped anywhere in Cornwall without having some milk tea bags and scones awaiting on arrival.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for taking the time to write this review. I’m pleased you found Sunnyside to be well located and quaint. The cottage is quirky and being an original fisherman’s cottage the layout of the rooms are dictated by their traditional way of life, ie the smaller bedroom. I’m sorry to hear about the lack of pressure in the shower, if you had told me then I could have addressed the problem. You are the first guests to mentioned this. Regarding the ‘waste of space at the back end of the kitchen,’ I’m unable to comprehend what you would suggest, as this accomdates the boiler, the passage from the dining room to the kitchen and the back door leading to the courtyard? There were tea bags and sugar left for you, but I stopped supplying milk, biscuits etc because of the complaints that they might contain nuts, they are not gluten free and the milk was not suitable for people’s tastes. Likewise with the linen; people have many different allergies and requested a variety of bed linen. Thank you for your comments.

The most comfortable cottage in a perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

This is our second visit to Sunnyside cottage. It has everything you need for a comfortable stay in Charlestown. It has character and in a perfect location. Walking distance to various eateries & hostelries! ..& of course so close to the wonderful harbour. This year we were lucky to even see a little of Poldark filming. We had trips out to Mevagissey, Truro & St Austell & a shopping trip to the Cornicopia Cornish indoor market. We met the owner Amanda who was lovely and welcoming. Can't wait to return!
