About Christele

John and Christele moved from Yorkshire to Lincolnshire twelve years ago. They fell in love with The Forge and completely restored the property in the quiet residential village of Hemswell. One of the very few villages with a maypole. Christele is a full time ceramic artist, and John is an engineer who enjoys doing aerobatics.

Christele purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Christele chose Lincolnshire

We chose The Forge in Hemswell because it offers the best of two worlds. On the one hand it is rural, tranquil and secluded yet within easy reach from major motorways and airports. ( M180/M18/A46/A1) (East Midlands/Doncaster-Sheffield/Humberside)

On one side going East we can readily access the coast and the Lincolnshire Wolds on the other side going West, we can readily access the rest of the country.

Kirton Lindsay only a few miles away offers nice village shops and amenities (butcher, baker, newsagent, small Coop, beautician, Indian restaurant...) with its own working windmill. Hemswell Antique Centre less than a mile away is a definite attraction.

We have a dog and enjoy walks, the area has plenty of footpaths and bridleways. I used to cycle and the rural back roads are a delight.

We love Lincoln, a quaint interesting pleasant town with a good range of entertainment from cultural to casual and good restaurants.

John & Christele were really nice people, very helpful & accommodating. Jasper is a superstar & made our mutt feel at home. You know when you book somewhere & you hope its as nice as it looks? The pictures dont do this place justice. A real find. We will recommend to friends & hopefully will manage to get back there. Good luck & thanks for having us...

Quiet and tranquil break

  • 5 of 5

Accommodation and garden were splendid, positioned within the lovely village of Hemswell. The place covered all bases and to have use of the patio and garden was a bonus. Highly recommended.

Picture perfect exceeding expectations!

  • 5 of 5

Wow! The photos did not do this country paradise justice...the property is immaculate with a secluded sanctuary of a garden. The cottage is tastefully decorated and extremely comfortable with plenty of space for a older family of five without feeling crowded - an unexpected bonus! We especially appreciated that the living spaces were all separated rather than having one large communal area.

The facilities provided in the cottage were beyond adequate and we were particularly impressed by the quality of the Wi-Fi even when several of our family were using it concurrently.

We particularly enjoyed the peace and quiet of sitting on the covered patio listening to the birds and enjoying the lush garden.

A couple of jaunts around the village proved that the local residents are welcoming and proud of their village.

Located in the quiet village of Hemswell, nonetheless access to both Gainsborough and Lincoln is easy and quick when needed even though there is a distinct secluded atmosphere. Proximity to Scampton even allowed us a free preview of the Red Arrows training one afternoon - an unexpected bonus!

The layout of the cottage is intentionally accessible for those with limited mobility with plenty of space for manoeuvering around both inside and out with walking-aid equipment - greatly appreciated by our elderly mother!

The owners were very welcoming and available but yet stayed very much out of sight and sound.

In summary, just a perfect cottage in a perfect location - we could not imagine better value for the money...highly recommended to any looking for a self-contained get-away perfect for both couples or families.

Lovely place to stay, quiet & peaceful, lovely surroundings

  • 5 of 5

We loved our weekend in the cottage, we had a very warm welcome and the cottage was lovely. We would definitely stay again. Jasper the Labrador provided some great entertainment, we loved it. It was great to have a BBQ and pizza oven next to the patio and also a patio heater in case it got a bit cool. The patio was covered so can be used even if it's a bit wet outside. The log burner in the sitting room made it really warm and cosy. Also the homemade cake which was left in the kitchen for us was a nice touch.
