Le Cerisier has been fully renovated to a high standard by local artisans ensuring that old meets new sympathetically. It has been furnished with either new or antique furniture to match the building. The outside under cover eating area is a favourite where you can dine alfresco and enjoy the tranquillity and the wildlife. The large 12m X 6m pool is enclosed and has it's own facilities including toilet, shower and kitchen area. The grounds offer a large amount of privacy and you can explore the fruit orchard to see whats available to eat, the cherries are wonderful. As the house has WIFI, Sat TV, Blue Ray etc you could spend all your time enjoying the property however there are some great times to be had by visiting the local area and the coast. You could canoe down the river(15mins), surf in the Cote Sauvage(45mins), taste the local Pineau or Cognac(30mins), buy some oysters of the boat at La Tramblade(45mins), try out the market in Saintes(10mins) or dine in the local restaurants.

We currently live in Somerset but have lived in many places in the UK.

Ann helps to educate children in our local school which she has been doing for some time now since the twins have gown up. They are now both at University, different ones and they will soon be approaching their final year.

Russ has always been in business, both in a large corporate companies and with a small company which he is currently a director of. He has worked in Europe as well as the UK and have always been in a customer facing environments.

After spending many years holidaying in France, finding it was very relaxing and an antidote to our pressured way off life we decided to buy somewhere.

Our working background has generated a firm belief about the high standards that we should provide to our guests.

I would highly recommend this property, beautiful farmhouse, spacious lovely surroundings. The swimming pool was great. The thought that has gone into the property is clearly evident. A wonderful time had by all.



Fantastic well equipped large farmhouse.The best equipped gite we have ever stayed in.The swimming pool was large and having a toilet at the pool was v handy. Sheets and towels were changed weekly.Plenty of interesting places to visit and great local markets best ones in Saintes.Good local restaurant in next village.The owner was easily contactable and prompt at replying to any queries.I will be recommending this property to my friends and family and hopefully will return there ourselves.

Delightfully peaceful and tranquil

We had a wonderful stay at this farmhouse, just outside Saintes. We were attending our son's wedding in August 2016 and booked this property which was well appointed, spacious and situated in a quiet rural setting, ideally suiting our needs. The farmhouse was extremely well-equipped and we wanted for nothing. Most of our evenings were spent dining on the terrace, with a bottle of local French wine, enjoying the tranquillity of our surroundings and watching the wildlife.

The highlight for us was the marvellous walled swimming pool which was well used by all our party including our grandchildren and we felt confident in the knowledge that all the safety requirements had been met.

From the outset we found Russ, the owner, to be available and helpful in every way from the beginning of the booking process to the end of our stay. We would highly recommend this farmhouse for a holiday destination and certainly we hope to return ourselves.

Very large roomy farmhouse. Clean, well appointed

Wonderful, large,spacious farmhouse with 3 ensuit bedrooms The twin bedroom had a large bathroom with shower next door . We had a party of 8 and there was plenty of room to spread out and do your own thing . Enormous kitchen with table and large dining room made us all feel very relaxed . There is a large outdoor area with barbeque and most of our meals were taken there The swimming pool was well used and here is a toilet, shower and kitchen which compliments the sunloungers and umbrella. We loved the remoteness of the farmhouse and were surrounded by fields with crops. We played badminton most evenings on the lawn and saw birds, deer and hares. There is an orchard in the grounds and we would pick the apricots and mulberries. When we arrived there was a basket on the kitchen table filled with local produce. It had bread, cheese, wine and fruit. We thought it was a lovely touch to get our holiday started. We did miss walking down to a local shop in the mornings for our bread. It was too far and the safest way was by car..The town of Saintes is only 30 mins away and has lovely cobbled streets, markets, churches and restaurants. We spent a day in Royan which is a typical beach town with plenty restaurants and sunloungers for hire.You can also hire bikes there and there is good cycle paths to keep you safe .We had a day in Bordeaux which is over an hour away but if you like stunning architecture this is a must .It is not for children .They'd get bored. The only downside to the farmhouse was there was no air conditioning or ceiling fans . When we were there it was very hot and we went out and bought fans. We left 2 of them there. We were there June/July so be warned .We bought them in the enormous supermarket outside Saintes. This year we found petrol and diesel very cheap compared to the uk .

Just a quick note to the owners.... THANK YOU. We loved the property... plenty of space and well equipped, we ate outside every night. Children and adults loved the pool. We also saw plenty of wildlife: Deer, storks, owls, bats.

Super!!

Just returned from a one week family holiday in this lovely house. Our ages ranged from 3 to 68 years and there was something for everyone. Lots of room for outdoor games, lovely swimming pool, great BBQ area which we used most evenings. There are some great places to visit and not too far away. Shopping for essentials, recommend Netto and HyperU. Would recommend to anyone wanting a restful holiday in beautiful surroundings. Contact with the owner helped to make all arrangements easier for us.

Fantastic Stay.

We have just returned from an excellent break at this farmhouse. We went with the aim of a family holiday and to celebrate a major birthday. The 1st week we had family visiting and the 2nd friends.

We had 3 generations at one point and the venue really worked. It is very tranquil, large and well presented and is well equipped.

We really felt at home and would recommend this to others who want a relaxing break in a lovely setting.

Lovely French farmhouse

A very well appointed and spacious house in beautiful quiet surroundings. We holidayed here with our 3 small children and another family and the house was so big that everybody had their own space. The grounds and pool are great, although as it's unheated so the pool was a little chilly in May but I'm sure would be perfect later in the summer. It is a fantastic base for exploring this region of France with many sights within an hour by car and the beach approx 35mins. We would definitely recommend this house and the area to anybody looking to explore south-west France.

Location

We love this area of France particularly. The area firstly has the micro climate which does mean that it is the 2nd most sunny area of France. It is has the benefits of both beautiful countryside and a variety of different coastal locations. It is all about location and we are situated bang in the middle of where we want to be and we can get to such a range of different places easily. From the business hub of Bordeaux to the vineyards of St Emillion. From the bustling town of La Rochelle to the fishing village of La Tramblade and the local markets around the area are great. It is not only the houses that have a warm feel in the area, the locals are very welcoming and will away make an effort to understand you no matter how good your French is.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

The Royan area provide the nearest beaches which are about 30 to 40 minutes away by car. These are safe beaches ideal for young families and have lots of local attractions.

Further around the peninsular are the beaches of the Cote Sauvage which can provide good surf to swim or surf.

The towns of La Tramblade and Talmont are easily accessible and the Ile D'oleron is less than an hour by car.

Travel:

The closest Airports are La Rochelle which is about 1 hour away and Bordeaux which is about 1 hour 15 mins. Poiters has an airport and is about 1 hour 15mins and Bergerac is just over 2 hours away. The channel ports are about 5 hours away.

I just love to eat outside on the terrace and watch the world go by, well maybe not the world, but the wildlife. If you are lucky you will see the deer, you may see the White Storks, in fact I saw some Black Storks last time I was over. The Hoopoe are around frequently, the Black Red Starts, our resident barn Owl and the Sparrow Hawk. You will see soaring the Black Kites and Buzzards and the Kestrel hovering for his food. Oh and you may see the Golden Oriole. After breakfast....

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: What do our guests think? We stayed at Le Cerisier for 2 weeks in July 2012 and am so pleased we did. We wanted a rural setting but not too far away from the coast and this definitely ticked the boxes. Lovely area with little villages but only 10 mins from the town of Saintes with it's shops, restaurants and markets. Royan is only a 40 minute drive where the day can be spent on the lovely sandy beach. The house itself was excellent with everything you need for your stay provided. All the rooms are good sizes and the beds very comfortable. The pool area was great during the day especially with it's shaded area to get away from the sun if need be and sitting on the covered terrace in the evening for dinner was amazing especially when the resident deer come wandering in to the garden. Would I recommend this house? Definitely! Would I book again? Already have! Outside: There is a outside covered area at the back of the house which is ideal for alfresco dining and there is sufficient tables and chairs for ten people, a BBQ is provided. At the front of the house there is an area which can be nice when the sun is not too hot and there is some garden furniture available for this area including parasols. There is plenty of parking available around the house and there are some barns to the front some of which are open. There is an area area of cut grass to the side of the house which is available for games etc, some equipment is provided in the trunk in the hall. Past the pool on the right hand side is an orchard with lots of different fruiting trees, the cherries are lovely. The house is attached on one side to another building which also belong to us. This has not been renovated yet, so you have total privacy. We do have a few neighbours who are very friendly. Utility Room: The utility room has a washing machine and a freezer as well as a sink. There is both internal and external lines available and an iron and ironing board. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Both bathroom towels and pool towels are provided along with all linen. These are changed weekly if required. Other: The separate Dining room has seating for 10 and has many original features. In the hall there is a trunk that has some games which can be used and the WIFI is located in the hallway.
