A beautiful and sympathetic conversion of part of the stable block, situated in the garden of this 16th Century thatched property. The cottage has been lovingly restored with English oak, and the impressive, massive beams form part of the lofty and light dining/sitting area. Granite work surfaces, and oaken floors both contribute to the chic, but timeless quality of this cottage. The kitchen is fully equipped, including dishwasher, fridge-freezer, micro-wave, hob and oven. The downstairs bedrooms are beautifully understated, with comfortable beds colourful bedspreads and cushions, and the owner's eclectic art hangs all over the walls. Each bed-room has a huge fitted cupboard. The pristine shower-rooms have slate-tiled floors, modern fittings, heated towel rails and fluffy white towels to match the robes and slippers provided. Upstairs under the eaves two neat single beds have their own toilet and hand-basin, and hidden in the cupboard is the washing machine.
From the beautiful light and lofty living/dining area, the cottage looks out over the orchard, the horses and the South Downs. Filled with the owner's art and sculpture, the cottage is warm and toasty with its underfloor heating. A perfect base for the culture vulture in Chichester, the sailor in Selsey and the golfer at Goodwood (as well as car, horse, and festival devotees)! Situated in the beautiful property of Graingers, the current owner's art studios are also on site, and open to guests. Chichester's cathedral is a must-see, as are all the Roman ruins in and around the town. A great place to dine out too. Other good eateries include the The Richmond Arms in the village, The Horse and Groom in the next village, and occasionally a pop-up kitchen down the road! A haven of peace and tranquillity, Hornbeam offers you the great escape from the hustle and bustle of daily living. Wake up to the beautiful sound of birdsong, and the clopping of the horse's hooves in the yard.
Dr and Grace Lawson Baker live on the property with their three horses and three dogs, not to mention Mum and Dad in the corner cottage! Neil is a retired dental surgeon and sculptor now devoting his time to art full-time, and Grace is a practising speech therapist and Equine learning facilitation. They both love having people to stay in Hornbeam Cottage and the Shepherd's Hut, and are happy to share their gardens and local knowledge with guests.
The holiday lets are managed by the owner, who is happy to help you make your booking and have a lovely stay.
