This lovely child friendly house with its useful self-contained garden flat - ideal for extended family holidays - is a real find for family groups due to its ability to sleep 12/14 people. (8/10 in the main house and 5 in the garden flat). Friday changeover day from June to early September.

DURING SCHOOL HOLIDAYS THE MAIN HOUSE IS ALWAYS LET WITH THE GARDEN FLAT APART FROM LAST MINUTE BOOKINGS SLEEPING 12/14 IN 6 BEDROOMS. Crossways is perfect for families with young children- there's allocated parking outside and a long list of equipment including safety gear like stair gates, plug covers and useful items such as bath mats, purée makers, microwaves, lots of toys and games, dishwashers and washer dryers. All of which assist greatly in ensuring a relaxing and enjoyable holiday with babies/toddlers in tow. Our holiday house is set in the South Devon town of Salcombe. Crossways is well located and a comfortable holiday homes in Devon. It is about 5 minutes walk from the town centre, and about 20 minutes from the nearest beach.

Parking for 2 cars for house and one space for the flat or 5 cars when rented as a 6 bedroom property.

About the Owner

After the birth of their first son - owners Jane Brown and Tim Wells quickly learnt that travelling with a little one can be hard work with having to remember the travel cot, the high chair, the toys, the bath things etc. They looked to create a family friendly holiday home in their favourite seaside town of Salcombe. They fell in love with the beauty and pace of life in Salcombe. If you are looking for a family friendly holiday let then Crossways is the place for you. Tim and Jane now have 4 children and have owned holiday lets since 2001, and so have plenty of experience in holidaying with young children and looking after guests!

We stayed over Christmas and had a wonderful time. In a perfect location, just a short walk to the town, with amazing views. The children were well catered for with a great range of toys and baby accessories. They were even left Christmas presents by the owner which was a lovely touch.

We had a wonderful weeks family holiday in the lovely village of Salcombe in early March. Crossways is very well located, is spacious and the views are out of this world. We were just sorry that it wasn't hotter as we would have loved to have made use of the barbecue on the patio deck. The house is very comfortably furnished and has everything that you might need including toys for our children and DVD's. The beaches in the area are lovely and we found plenty to keep us and the children entertained. We would certainly recommend Crossways to our friends.

We stayed at Crossways, Salcombe in July having seen it on your website. The house is well appointed and equipped for a family or families to share.

What we love about Crossways. The space for the little one to roll around and explore Being able to park right outside - no stress of trying to find a car parking space The large patio to enjoy the view of Salcombe and the water while cooking on the BBQ The nearest sandy beach only being a 20 minute walk away or a five minute walk and a short ferry ride. Lots of lovely cafes and restaurants serving everything from cakes and buns to fabulous 3 course meals within walking distance Salcombe is a lovely safe town where older children are given a freedom to wander and enjoy some independence in a way you do not get in large cities. We also enjoy the fact that without Sky we actually spend some time away from the screens and the children have even been known to read and play

Nearest Barpub : Ferry at 500 Metres Nearest Ferry : East Portlemouth at 500 Metres Nearest Restaurant : Harbour at 500 Metres Nearest Beach : North Sands at 1 Miles


1 mile walk to the nearest beach at North Sands which also has parking and a great family restaurant the Winking Prawn.

Alternatively 5 minutes downhill walk to the passenger ferry to South Sands, a blue ribbon beach or East Portlemouth with has a lovely cafe.


Exeter and Plymouth are the nearest airports.

Train stations at Totnes or Plymouth.

Salcombe is often regarded as 'England's St. Tropez' due to the glamorous yachts it attracts. With yachts come great bistros and boutiques and Dick & Wills, overlooking the water comes highly recommended. For child-friendly meals, Island Street Cafe Bar(closed in winter) is great fun and doesn't feel like a compromise for the adults either. Great days out include tours with lunch at nearby Sharpham Vineyard and Riverford Organics – both have well-respected cafe-bistros on-site. For the more energetic watersports such as surfing, windsurfing and water-skiing are available locally, as are boats trip and private boat and skipper hire. Family fun can be found in spades at nearby Pennywell Farm Park, Paignton Zoo or Blackpool Sands Beach, which was recently voted best family beach in the UK by Conde Nast Traveller thanks to its toddler sandpit, paddling pool, easy parking, clean toilets and great cafe serving organic kiddies meals. For a special evening out, try dressing up for an evening of Art Deco glamour with a dinner dance at the famous Burgh Island Hotel.

From the Owner

Our 4 kids love going to Salcombe. They enjoy building sandcastles on the beach which is a short walk away and then getting the sea tractor and ferry home again. They are always keen to have a cocktail and a pizza at at Captain Flints which is just a short walk down the hill. If you do want to get in the car then Woodlands near Dartmouth is a real crowd pleaser with a huge soft play area. They love visiting the wonderful traditional sweet shop and the toy shop.

  • Notes on accommodation: The house itself has been recently refurbished and has a lovely, bright, open-plan downstairs area, awash with light from its many picture windows and a well-equipped, stylish contemporary kitchen diner with an archway through to the spacious lounge equipped with TV, DVD player and music centre. Upstairs, the first floor has a double bedroom, a twin/double (zip'n'link) and a twin, plus a family bathroom (with bath and shower), whilst the attic room on the floor above has a double with Vi Spring mattress and ensuite shower room. The Garden flat benefits from lovely views of the water and town beyond and proves a very handy extra space for those travelling with larger parties or split family groups. It has been thoughtfully furnished in keeping with the main house and sleeps 5 in one double and one twin with a sofa bed. There's allocated parking outside and a long list of equipment including safety gear like stair-gates, socket covers and useful items like purée makers, toys and games. Outside: Outside guests have the choice between enjoying the stunning views from the roof terrace (very safely enclosed) which is accessed via sliding doors from dining area and main kitchen in the house and has a Weber BBQ and a large table that seats 8. There is plenty of room for a paddling pool. There is also the garden with a table and chairs for 6 for the guests staying in the flat. The front garden also has a bench.
