Artists Enchanting Hand-built Creative Village home. For 2 people - unit no 1

Updated: 07-Nov-2016
House in Canillas de Aceituno, Costa del Sol, Spain - Quiet Village Location In Sierra Tejada National Park Directly Below La Maroma Mountain Reserve

"Casa Bonita" is a delightful handmade home designed and built by it's owner. It attracts a lot of attention due to it's unusual architectural qualities. Recycled natural materials, antique timbers and forged metalwork grace this pretty home. This is a new landmark in the tiny Mountain Village of Canillas de Acietuno. Located in the old part of the village, shops, tapas bars and restaurants within 2 minutes walk.

This apartment exceeded all expectations. Ideal for two people and very cleverly designed. Everything was at hand both in the apartment and in the lovely village. Peter is an excellent host. Thank you for all the wonderful goodies in the fridge!! What a nice touch! Will definitely return!!

We have just spent a week in this wonderful quirky apartment. The welcome pack was amazing and included many local products but most importantly sparkling wine and chocolate....fantastic! The apartment is in a very central location so you are in this thick of a wonderful working village. If you want absolute peace and quiet then this may not be the apartment for you but you will miss out on the many charms of this place.

This is a fantastic base for exploring the area, Comares is a must. For the thrill seekers amongst you, try the back road from Alcaucin to Canillas, scary but worth it.

The village has plenty of tapas bars and restaurants so no need to eat in the same place twice.

The weather was exceptional so the local pool was a welcome place to cool off. It is a 10 to 15 minute walk and for 2 euros it's a bargain.

If walking is your passion, you can find plenty of walking routes in the area but the weather was much too hot for us to do much walking. It would be great to return off season to explore further. This apartent is well equiped for the cooler weather so would be a perfect base.

With the weather being so hot, air con would be a welcome addition but there is a fan provided. Internet connection is hit or miss, so if you are a slave to social media you may have a problem but a quick coffee is Maroma will sort you out.

I would have no hestitation is recommending Casa Bonita to others. Try it for yourself, I'm sure you will not be disappointed.

Owner's Response: Steve & Susan were a pleasure to host, they enjoyed the apartment and the village. They brought to my attention that the wifi connection was somewhat erratic. I have since changed supplier, The new connection is far superior and is a constant connection. Thank goodness for their honesty as I would never have known! Where would we be without the web??? Perfect in Every Way

We stayed for two weeks in Casa Bonita and were sad to leave it. The outside of the building is so pretty, with unique touches that carry on into the inside where the layout is fluid, beautifully designed and definitely for the romantic. There was not a day went by when we did not find something to marvel at in the attention to detail.

We spent a lot of time on the roof terrace admiring the fantastic view, eating from the bbq and relaxing. We were very impressed that on arrival, the fridge was full of food and drink and shampoo and conditioner were provided. We wanted for nothing and Peter was a lovely host, making sure we were happy there. We were even provided with a mobile phone so that we could ring him if needed.

The village itself was ideal for us. There are walks in the mountains and we found a good running route. We loved to sit outside at one of the local bars (two mins away) and enjoy the atmosphere. We were lucky to arrive on a festival weekend - a great experience.

It was our 30th wedding anniversary while we were there and we intended to drive out and maybe stop over somewhere. We had no need to . We loved it there.

From the Owner

This property was a 300 year old ruin which I discovered many years ago, it stopped me in my tracks! It oozed charm and the proportions were a great starting point, for a new venture. The location was good, and parking was close. I completely demolished the original structure, and re designed the new house with the old ruin in mind. I wanted to create something that would be fun to build and give total comfort and open space in a small village home . It was very important to create as much natural light as possible as some village houses can be dark and gloomy . I spent two and a half years working every day on this project. I'm happy with the result.
