Overview

About the property

3 bedroom cottage, sleeps 6. large garden/play area, Short walk to heart of old village and beach.

Honeysuckle Cottage is tucked away on the edge of the picturesque Shanklin Old Village, on the south eastern corner of the island. The safe, sandy, award winning beach is only a 10 minute walk away whilst the centre of the old village with its pretty thatched cottages, tea rooms, and pubs are just a few minutes walk. Shanklin Chine and Rylstone gardens, with crazy golf, tea rooms and bandstand, live music is played here during the summer months, and Big Mead Park are also just a few minutes walk away. Big Mead has a large area to picnic, plenty of room for ball games, a duck pond, play area and is next to St. Blasius 12th century church. This is all on the edge of an area of outstanding natural beauty, as is a large area of the Isle of Wight. There are many stunning coastal and country footpaths, some can be joined at the end of the road. Honeysuckle cottage is a 3 bedroom cottage providing self-catering accommodation for up to six guests. The lounge has patio doors opening out onto a decked patio area, with outdoor furniture, and looks out over the large mature garden with little tikes play area and two children's play houses. There is ample parking in front of the cottage. If you don't wish to use, or bring, your car there is a bus stop within a couple of minutes walk, The Train also stops in Shanklin town, there is nearby cycle hire and plenty to keep you busy within walking distance. Honeysuckle is child friendly, equipped with stair gates, high chair, travel cot, toys and bed guards if needed.

About Peter & Mandy Daley

We have owned honeysuckle Cottage for six years now We are both lucky enough to have be brought up on the Isle of Wight.

We chose Honeysuckle Cottage for its great location, quiet yet close to the old Village, parks and countryside, perfect for our family.

We have three children, one boy and two girls , they all love Shanklin and the beach and can't wait to stay in the cottage.

Being a close family all hands are on deck, our mums are a great help, we have lovely housekeepers and their families who also help, and two very willing gardenes who turn their hands to almost anything.

Knowing how much families have to take with them on holiday we have tried to think of everything so that all that needs to be had is a good time!

We really hope you love the cottage and The Isle of Wight as much as we do.

Peter & Mandy Daley purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Peter & Mandy Daley chose Isle of Wight

We chose Honeysuckle cottage for its great location, we also have Jasmine and Clematis either side, these were bought later, and are also holiday cottages, we were finding it hard to find a week free for ourselves! We love how close it is to the beach, water-sports, The Old Village, parks, and great countryside. The size of the garden was another great plus as we have very active children with plenty of energy. Our children love the rabbits on the lawn and looking out for and feeding the squirrels in the winter, they are getting very cheeky!

We love the fact that you feel miles away from the bustle of a busy seaside town, yet are close enough that within a few minutes walk you can be part of it.

What makes this cottage unique

Honeysuckle cottage for us is a relaxing holiday, surrounded by plenty of things to do and see, or just watch the children play in the garden. The red squirrels are facinating to watch and are getting quite brave! The Old Village has many places to eat out, its nice to walk down in the evening, without the worry of the car, or to stop for dinner or a drink on the way back from the beach. Rylstone Gardens, only a couple of minutes walk away has a crazy golf garden that's fun and café and sometimes in the summer has bands playing in the bandstand. The Island has so many different things of interest, festivals, carnivals, plenty of village shows, history, theatre, zoo's, and much more and none of them are more than an hour away.

We have tried to make Honeysuckle cottage as child friendly as possible, stair gates, bed guards, toys, books, DVD's and a great garden to explore, so that you can make your holiday as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.

Guestbook comments from the owner

“We all had a lovely time and enjoyed the comfort of Honeysuckle Cottage enormously….

We would like to stress that the facilities in the cottage are amazing. …. The location of the cottage was fantastic, and the décor was refreshingly modern and homely and not typically like a hotel. On arrival it was wonderful to walk into a sizeable and comfortable living room with plenty of room to sit comfortably.

“…. we had another lovely holiday!

The Todd Family

…. just as we remembered it - homely and very comfortable. My son …. was very sad to leave, and first thing he said this morning was "I want to go back to our Isle of Wight home!".

The Gretton Family

"Your place was amazing and we had a great Xmas !!"

Thank you very much for everything and we hope to return again sometime in the future.”

As you relax in the garden you can hear Shanklin Chine which passes the end of the garden, and watch the rabbits, the odd fox and some of the islands red squirrels if you are lucky! This winter we were lucky enough to spot 3 red squirrels in the garden at once! Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bedding and indoor towels are provided, including tea-towels, please bring your own beach towels. The cottage is cleaned, bed linen and towels changed on a weekly basis. If guests stay for more than one week we offer a light clean and linen change.

Wonderful cottage and a perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to the Isle of Wight with our nearly 3 year-old daughter. We couldn't have asked for a better base from which to explore the island. The house is large, clean and has excellent facilities for the whole family. The garden was a real surprise and has numerous wendy houses, climbing frames and toys etc to keep the children entertained. The location is ideal as only a short drive from most of the attractions and only a 5 minute walk into Shanklin Old Village from where you can access the beach via Shanklin Chine. We would definitely stay here again if and when we next visit the Isle of Wight.

Our second stay at Clematis Cottage, and I can honestly say that it is one of the best properties we have stayed in. Very clean, well equipped and maintained. Perfect base for our family holiday. Highly recommend.

Fantastic !!!!!!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

we have stayed at the wonderful Chestnut Mews a few times over the past couple of years and each time we can't praise them enough. They are so well kept and maintained, tastefully decorated, yet comfortable enough to feel at home and relaxed. The gardens are great and perfect for kids to play or the grown ups to sit out and relax on the decking. The cottages are in an ideal location for the Old Village, Shanklin town, the beach, gardens and much more. We can't wait to visit again.

Great location, well appointed cottage

  • 5 of 5

We were very pleased with this cottage. It's modern, well appointed, very clean and very peaceful. It's an easy walk to Shanklin town centre where there is a good selection of gift shops and places to eat or get takeaways. Some days we walked to the beach and some days we drove as we found parking at sea level plentiful and inexpensive. The owners were genuinely helpful and keen that we should enjoy our stay, which we did!

Very family friendly

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time staying in Jasmine Cottage in April and we would definitely stay again. The cottage is really suitable for small children with a cot, stair gates, plenty of toys and a high chair which meant we didn't have to bring a mountain of things with us. Everything was exceptionally clean and comfortable. The cottage is located in a very peaceful area but within easy walking distance of all the amenities and beach in Shanklin and I was 7 months pregnant at the time. We also made use of the indoor pool nearby which was great for our two year old as we had the place to ourselves. The wifi was also exceptionally fast. I would definitely recommend this cottage.

Excellent Stay

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful stay at Chestnut Mews. The house was fantastic and my daughter loved the garden with all the toys to play with. The facilities in the house are really good and makes it feel like a home from home. Location just 10 min walk to Shanklin centre is ideal.

Coast/Beach:

The Cliff Path and Steps leading to Appley Beach, the quieter end of Shanklin’s Beach, takes approximately a ten minute walk. Or alternatively, you can stroll along a tarmac path, via the Old Village and park (easier for prams and the less agile) which also only takes about ten minutes to get to Shanklin’s main Beach and the esplanade, with its gift shops, coffee shops and amusements. The beaches at Shanklin hold the water quality award, for its clean waters and safe bathing.

Entertainment; Shanklin has its own Theatre which is open all year round hosting a full programme of professional and amateur productions. Our Children love the Christmas pantomime. Shanklin chine is in the center of the old village, for almost 200 years it has been enjoyed for its peace, tranquility and natural beauty. As you wander through the woodland, passing waterfalls and following the stream down to the sea, you’ll soon see why this famous gorge has inspired poets, artists and writers. Between Shanklin and Sandown is Wight Water Adventure sport who can offer you professional watersports packages across a broad range of water-based activities, tuition to suit all needs and abilities. There are over 500 miles of footpaths and 200 miles of cycle tracks, that mixed with fact that half of the Isle of wight is designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty makes walking and cycling a pleasure. You can join dinosaur walks, have a game of golf, go to Sandown Zoo, Blackgang Chine, Robin Hill, a little further a field Osbourne House, Alum bay,Amazon World, The Garlic Farm ( luckily they do provide mints!) And so much more.

How to get Here;

Wightlink car ferries from Lymington to Yarmouth in 30 min's, Portsmouth to Fishbourne in 45, foot passengers can use the catamaran from Portsmouth to Ryde in 25 min’s. From Ryde Pier Head you can board the train to Shanklin.

Red Funnel car ferry sails between Southampton & East Cowes in an hour. If on foot Red Funnel operate the Hi-Speed Red Jet between Southampton and West Cowes, in 22 min’s.

Hovertravel is the fastest service, for foot passengers, between Southsea & Ryde in just 10 min’s.

It is worth shopping around for a car ferry as sometimes they do have some good offers. During the school holidays it is a good idea to book ahead.

Further Details:

The nearest newsagents is less than a ten minute walk to the top of the old Village as is the nearest grocery shop. Ten minutes walk will take you into the seaside town of Shanklin where you will find Banks, Chemists and many other shops. The nearest pub is less than 5 minutes away, restaurants, coffee shops and tea rooms are dotted about throughout the old Village and Shanklin. The Island has a Tesco's, Waitrose and Sainsburys that will deliver to the cottage, there are also plenty of places that will deliver takeaway if you just want to stay in and relax!
