Farmhouse in Aize, Indre, Centre, France - Peaceful Location With Wonderful Sunsets,Deer Often Have Supper In The Fields Around The House

La loge is a traditional French Farmhouse converted to a good standard. It is locatedin the heart of France, the Upper Loire. The house is on the edge of farm land but close to a village and two small towns famous for their produce in particular award winning patisserie. Great wine producers and fabulous châteaux are also close by. A lovely garden affords spectacular sunsets and secluded barbecues. The local walks enable access to some of Frances' best forests where a range of wildlife from birds including birds of prey to wild boar can be spotted. The Brenne wildlife sanctuary is close by and The Loire River is never far away running through towns and villages. One can eat well in this region at local restaurants that provide good wholesome food for working people at reasonable prices or a higher level of cousine that would be hard to find in Paris or London but also very affordable. It is ideal for a tranquil idyll just chilling out or exploring the many interesting areas.

I am recently retired from a career in the 'not for profit' sector working both in the UK and overseas. My interests are; music, mostly classical; pottery making; cooking; gardening; antiques/history. I bought the house whilst I was working in London and it became the perfect antidote to a busy life. Now I divide my time between London, France and California where my daughter lives. I love London and California with their different and varied cultural opportunities. However it's wonderful to come to France and just enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the countryside, the good food and wine and French hospitality.

Why Sylvia Menzies-Armstrong chose Indre

I bought the house in an afternoon as it was love at first sight. I had looked all over France and La Loge with it's perfect setting , big skies, spectacular sunsets ; tranquil surroundings and convenient location captured me.

I love the area because it offers everything I want. I enjoy attending the many concerts in the local churches. I take pottery and yoga classes. The garden is wonderful and manageable. The big plus for me are the local brocantes offering everything from rubbish to wonderful 'finds' . It is also close to a range of medieval villages and cities.

Although far from the madding crowds it is also convenient - 5 hours from a channel port, located just off the A20 and just over an hour by train from Paris.

What makes this farmhouse unique

La Loge is in the centre of France in an area called the Indre. It's in the heart of France literally, in the Upper Loire.

It offers easy access to a wide range of wonderful chateaux from small properties that one could easily consider living in to grand palaces with Leonardo D' Vinci architecture.

There is also a terrific local wine trail, starting at La Loge and ending with the grand finale, Sancerre.

Passing through pretty countryside tasting as you go at the many good vignaroles along the route you can end the day with a wonderful lunch or supper and of course a great bottle!

The house is spacious and the accommodation is good. It is in between 2 small towns that have good local food and good supermarkets.

We had a wonderful time at La Loge. It was the perfect 'home away from home' providing comfortable accommodation in a spectacular setting. The garden is delightful full of English roses and at dusk you can see wonderful sunsets.

We took the owners advice and visited some wild life sanctuaries took walks in the forests which were really enjoyable witnessing a family of wild boar on a walk about!

The trip to Sancerre was great, tastings on the way and the local vigneroles who were both welcoming and helpful. We brought some great wines home with us.

We also enjoyed a visit to Bourges, had a wonderful supper and experienced a unique Son et Lumiere I would highly recommend it.

Notes on accommodation: There are also tv's in 2 of the bedrooms, one plays dvd only and the other has freeview. Outside: Plenty of garden furniture and a barbecue. Also 2 sets of Boules which can be played in the local village and towns close by. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towel and linens are provided and serviced on departure. If staying for more than one week they can be changed mid stay. Other: The dining room has a large dining table and chairs which easily seats 6 to 8 people.

Excellent home from home

We stayed in August 2015, the house was charming in a very quiet rural setting with lovely grounds perfect for our dog. Although you need a car to get out and about it was lovely just to sit in the many sunny spots in the garden and simply relax.
