House in Happisburgh Nr. Norwich, Norfolk, England. Perfect for families and dogs. - Easy Walk To Sandy Beach, Village Pub & Shop. Family Friendly Holiday Home Both Peaceful And Private

This beautifully thatched Arts and Crafts house was refurbished in 2012/13 and has a superb location at the edge of the conservation village of Happisburgh with its famous red and white striped lighthouse. The Broads National Park is just minutes away and this section of the coast is famous for its quiet and sandy beaches. The house is spacious, airy and warm and can accommodate up to 10 people in the 5 bedrooms with 3 bathrooms. Dogs are very welcome at no charge. The garden is fully fenced and the area is known for being dog friendly with most pubs and cafes allowing dogs and the beaches and countryside are great for walking. The North Norfolk coastal area is easily accessible and the city of Norwich is an easy drive away offering a huge range of activities and interests. The delightfully old fashioned seaside resorts of Cromer and Sheringham are just up the coast and a short drive south will take you to the busy town of Great Yarmouth. This east Norfolk area is very quiet and rural with much easy walking and ideal for dogs and children. The attractions in the area are many and varied and the area is very popular with bird watchers, sailers, photographers and wildlife enthusiasts.

About the Owner

Hello! I've lived in Norfolk for about 26 years now and wouldn't want to live anywhere else! I have ended up in East Ruston (where the famous Old Vicarage gardens are) and love all this area of east Norfolk. My husband and I have 4 dogs and love the easy walking around here, both in the countryside and on the local beaches. We have a small holding and rear our own sheep, chickens for eggs and occasionally have pigs as well as growing veg.

We have our own holiday cottage but over the years friends have asked us to help them run theirs which is why we chose to list them on Owners Direct so that plenty of people can find them and come and stay in this fabulous part of the county. Many already have and many keep coming back. Enjoy Norfolk!

Guestbook comments from the owner

" We had a great holiday and the house was perfect. We stay away a lot and this house is one of the best. It is very large and is great for big groups or families. The house is so pretty and I was surprised how large it was, particularly how big the garden is.

Gordon and family - December 2013"

Fabulous house and grounds - the dogs loved it here and it was so safe. Lovely beaches to gallop on, great weather. So a perfect holiday for us all!!"

Lyn and Colin - September 2014

"Wonderful time, what a privilege to stay in such a beautiful and comfortable house. The dogs loved the garden and particularly appreciated the under floor heating when they were tired after a days adventures. They avoided their beds and spread themselves over the kitchen floor soaking up the heat! Grandson Oscar loved riding his bike in the huge garden and joining in the evening boules competitions. Thatchers is a great property for hide and seek too!" April 2014

So dog friendly

  • 5 of 5

We are 3 dogs who meet up occasionally (with our owners) and have just returned from a short break at Thatchers. What an amazing secure garden we had to chase one another around and a kennel if we didn't want to go with our owners. Our own little gated area indoors too (where we could get some peace and quiet). Our families said the beds were very comfortable, showers superb, well equipped kitchen - real home from home. Even had a welcome pack with delicious sponge cake (we did share it!). Thank you Sue and Helen for lovely stay, looking forward to return visit.

A must for family's and dog owners

  • 5 of 5

This house is simple stunning both in setting and character. There is nothing you could ask for that Helen & Sue do not provide. The house has absolutely everything and is so well stocked with good quality items. Then to be a stone throw away from the pub and a short walk to the beach you couldn't ask for more.

We stayed here for Christmas 2014, a short break at the end of January this year with and are going back for New Year 2016/2017 and can not wait.

During our latest stay there was an age range from 11-84 and all of us had the best time ever and didn't want to go home.

The garden is perfect for dogs being huge and secure but also great for children to play in.

Don't miss out on a stay here it is a real must!

Owner's Response: So pleased you had such a wonderful time at our lovely Thatchers! It was a pleasure to have you stay too and so glad that your whole family and dogs were able to truly enjoy the house. The close proximity to the dog friendly pub and that gorgeous sandy beach (and the shop and the fabulous fresh fish shop!) mean that you don't have to go far to get what you need but if you do want a day out there are so many places to choose from in this quiet part of Norfolk. Thank you very much for taking the time to give such a glowing review and we look forward to having you back later in the year!

Perfect

Thatchers---For my --th birthday with my family of 10 and two dogs. It surely was a great 5 days, from the time of arrival when we were confronted with all sorts of goodies and a bottle of Bubbly (in the fridge). Couldn't complain about anything, house perfect, gardens great, plenty of parking, with a pub a few yards away. Sue had even arranged some great weather. If you think this is too good to be true . go there and try it David

Thatchers in Happisburgh

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing stay at thatchers. 4 adults and 3 dogs. We couldn't have wished for a more lovely place to stay. The house has everything that you could wish for including stair gates which are perfect for keeping mucky paws downstairs. The kitchen was fully equipped and very comfortable. The garden was absolutely amazing and a perfect place for the dogs to run around and explore safely. We had a slight problem with the smoke alarm but Helen the owner was with us immediately and sorted it out quickly which we were very grateful for. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place for a holiday and we fully intend to return.

Location

From the Owner

Happisburgh is a picture postcard village with a thriving heart but a peaceful feeling. The beach is easily accessible and useable all year round. All the beaches along this coast are sandy and easy for walking and yet so often you will find you have them to yourself. The Norfolk Broads are on the doorstep with so many opportunities for sailing, boating, fishing and watching the world go by from riverside pubs! However, just 30 minutes drive and you can be in the wonderful city of Norwich for excellent shopping, history, entertainment, wonderful food and so much more. Or the same journey time gets you to Great Yarmouth for a full on 'kiss-me-quick' experience. In an hour you can be up on the famous North Norfolk coastal marshes with their wilderness and wildlife and big Norfolk skie

Facilities

From the Owner

Thatchers is a perfect family holiday home but also a peaceful retreat if you really need to wind down. Its Arts and Crafts styling means that it is beautiful from every angle and the mature gardens have been very well developed and looked after. Often the only sound you will hear are the birds singing, sometimes the sound of the village cricket match on the pitch across the road and the church bells on Sunday - quintessentially rural England. The local pub, shop and wonderful fishmonger are a few yards away and the beach is a short walk along the high street. The house has plenty of room for everybody and everything you need for a comfortable stay. Dogs are very welcome for no extra charge and they love the big, enclosed garden and can have as much fun on the beaches as their owners!

The house is ideal for a large family group and has already been used by up to 3 generations at a time and to celebrate family birthdays and get togethers. Out of season it has been booked by smaller groups to enjoy very peaceful holidays by the sea and we can offer reduced rates to smaller groups and out of season bookings. The renovation of the house was finished in Spring 2013 and has been done to a very high standard as it is intended to be the future retirement home of the owners. The garden is huge with plenty of room within the boundaries for parking, a lovely lawn area and beds and mature planting around. Fully fenced so that dogs and children can play outside safely. The house is a non smoking property. Outside: Beautiful mature gardens, apple trees, formal and informal areas.
