Set on the sunny Kintyre peninsula in Argyll, which boasts huge skies and dramatic sunsets, this delightful Victorian stone built villa is just steps from glorious long stretches of sandy beach. The house is perfect for golfers and for exploring the many Scottish islands which surround this magical part of Argyll with ferries to Islay, Jura, Arran, Colonsay, Gigha all nearby. Newly renovated, this semi detached holiday home is set within a large private garden with sweeping lawns. Stylishly furnished and offering a fresh modern feel, the house retains its original charm. The large sitting room enjoys sea views and has an open fireplace making it a wonderfully relaxing place for all seasons. The spacious open plan kitchen / dining room is kept warm by underfloor heating and offers plenty of space for everyone to gather and enjoy meals. Upstairs the four comfortably furnished bedrooms all have lovely views out to sea or over the hills. Another bedroom is on the ground floor with sea views.The garden is enclosed by a lovely old stone wall. There is a separate wildflower garden to the rear of the property with views of hills to the South.

The house is a family house and has been in the family for nearly forty years. Gordon and Patricia spent over two years renovating and restoring the house to its present fine state.

The house and gardens are large and spacious with room for all the family. We particularly love the open plan kitchen /diner and love having family meals together.

Outside: The house is set in a large private garden surrounded by a beautiful old stone wall. With nearly 3/4 of an acre there is a shared front lawn and a large private lawn. The garden has flower and shrub borders and a rose garden at the back.There is a patio with a pergola and is the ideal place for catching the sun for most of the day. Patio furniture, table and parasols are provided. There is a charcoal barbecue grill. Most of the garden has views out to sea at the front and views over rolling hills and trees to the rear of the house. The separate wildflower garden at the rear has views over rolling hills. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All beds are made up with freshly ironed sheets and soft towels are provided. The house is cleaned before the start of guests' stay. Other: Playroom with Sky TV (Sports and Movies) mini pool table, table football, darts, games and puzzles. Furnished with sofa bed and bean bags.Wood floor with underfloor heating. Large window with views over garden

This is the second time we have stayed at Rothmar East for our yearly golf holiday at Machrihanish. The accommodation and facilities are first class and has everything a large party of golfers or family would want. Hopefully we will be back again next year.

Outstanding House with Great Views

Fantastic house with great views - golf course and beach to the front, rolling hills to the back. Very spacious, large modern kitchen and games room - great facilities all round. Short walk to the beach, golf course and clubhouse bar that serves great food. Fabulous Hotel Spa also very close by. Large garden and nice patio area. Would highly recommend and would not hesitate to book again.

We are so fortunate to have our unique situation with incredible views of the beach and hills to the rear. We're also creating a new wildflower garden to the rear of the property which will provide another space to enjoy the spectacular views of the rolling hills beyond. Many of our guests have appreciated the facilities in our village within 2 minutes walk; golf club,hotel restaurant, gastro pub and spa. For golfers it's a Mecca. We hope you will come back another time.

Fabulous house with spectacular viers

The house is very spacious with a great garden. Very well equipped for a family stay - our daughter loved running around and the two living areas meant toys could be kept out of the lounge. Great kitchen with everything you could need. All front facing rooms have amazing views to the golf course, beach and islands beyond. We walked to the beach and playpark every day and would recommend the Golf Club and Old Clubhouse for food and drinks. Serenity Spa at Ugadale Hotel is also fabulous - you hardly need to go to Campbeltown! Totally relaxed after our visit to Kintyre.

simply wonderful!

My 3 year old daughter, husband and his parents and our 3 lively dogs stayed here for a week and it was simply wonderful from start to finish. The excellent location beside the sea meant we could wake up and walk on the beach and also have an after dinner walk on the beach too and watch the sun set. The house is impeccable and the thoughtful welcome pack of kitchen essentials was lovely. The house is so spacious and luxurious but tastefully decorated which allowed us to be cosy and warm in the evening. Bedrooms were fantastic with the beds beings so comfortable that we were tempted to try and sneak a mattress in our suitcase to take home! It was the Ideal location as we could go to Westport beach surfing and also have day trips to Gigha and Arran. Plus the father-in-law sneaked in a game of golf too last minute which he was delighted with the course. This is a fantastic family holiday home in a lovely area so book now! Even our dogs can't wait to get back!

Wonderful family home.

Our extended family booked Easter week here and couldn't have been happier. The house was beautifully decorated and the description on this site accurately describes the bedrooms and lounge. It was well stocked both inside and out with equipment and games to keep the children happy. A chess board also saw quite a bit of action from the older ones. The kitchen had everything we needed and there was a thoughtful supply of basics left to see us through the first night, they were much appreciated.

The location is perfect, close to the sea, wonderful views, and near the Kintyre Way for walks or hikes through the countryside. Campbeltown is only 5 miles away for shopping and there is a bus into town if the car is unavailable.

I have no hesitation in recommending this lovely home. We would certainly stay here again in a heart beat.

The house overlooks a three mile, unspoilt sandy beach which is 50 metres from the house or a minute's walk. It is one of the best surfing beaches in Scotland and is popular with surfers, windsurfers and kayaks. It is very likely that guests will see dolphins, seals and otters as well as numerous varieties of sea-birds. There are other beautiful beaches in the village within walking distance including The Gauldrons and The Pans.


Campbeltown Airport is 1.5 miles from the house and has twice daily (one on Sunday) flights to Glasgow.

By car, the road distance from Glasgow is 140 miles. The drive has spectacularly beautiful scenery.

Regular bus service operates daily to Glasgow.

There are regular Caledonian MacBrayne ferries from the West coast of Scotland direct to Campbeltown and via Arran.

A fast speedboat service connects nearby Campbeltown with Ardrossan on the Ayrshire coast and Ballycastle in N Ireland.


Machrihanish is approximately 4.5 miles from the busy town of Campbeltown and 5 miles north of The Mull of Kintyre.

Within two minute's walk of the house is the luxury four star hotel, "The Ugadale" which provides fine dining and a health and beauty spa. Next to the hotel is a cosy gastropub, "The Old Clubhouse" which provides delicious pub food in an informal setting.

The nearby busy town of Campbeltown has a full range of shops, two major supermarkets, petrol station, library, cinema, leisure centre and swimming pools, tennis club, bowls club, hospital and dental centre.

In its heyday Campeltown had over 30 whisky distilleries and there are still 3 operating today. With its attractive harbour and neighbouring cafes, hotels and pubs this is the place to see the world go by.

There are other specialist shops including antiques, a kilt-maker, a blacksmith's shop, craft shops and a specialist whisky shop.
