About Kathy Ayres

East Dunley is run by Annie and Andy Ayres and Andys parents Chris and Kathy Ayres.

We have 4 children however only Taylor at home now~2 Chocolate Labradors and Wellington our gorgeous if not dopey Blue Great Dane~ we also have 3 cats .

Kathy Ayres purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Kathy Ayres chose Bovey Tracey

East Dunley is a gorgeous small holding with just under 11 acres, at East Dunley we have a livery stables and a Caravan club CL site (a CL site is allowed to take 5 caravans.)

We moved here in September 2010 and since then we have made many improvements~we have built the new stable block, converted one of the stable blocks into 3 holiday lets,we have put in shower/toilet facilities for the CL site to name a few and in Jan/Feb this year we put in a new drive~ we could no longer cope with the pot holes!!

What makes this cottage unique

Peace and quiet~ you are in the country however you are only a few miles from the A38~an ideal location to get to where ever you would like to go .

What more could you ask for!!

We have a great deal of repeat bookings so they must agree.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We are pleased we came here. It is a lovely cottage and it has been a pleasure to "come home" each evening after a day visiting the sights. Barbara and Terry Cass.

A beautifully adapted cottage, well equipped with everything we needed. A wonderful, friendly welcome from the family. A place to crash out or to use as a base for exploring. Much to be recommended. Thank you! Ken and Marion Howcroft.

We stayed in Virginia Cottage 9th-16th October 2016. This was not the first time we have stayed at these cottages. Cottages are clean, comfortable, excellent shower, just what we need after a long day out walking. Also very well equipped kitchen, important for us as we mostly eat in as we prefer to go out early and get "home" to our cottage mid afternoon to chill out. Don't be concerned about visiting during the cooler months of the year the central heating is top notch too. Location quiet and peaceful but only about five minutes drive from Bovey Tracey where there is a good selection of shops and eating places. We can recommend the Carpenter's Arms pub at Islington, about 10 minutes away by car, food excellent.

Annie and Andy are always cheerful and helpful, nothing is too much trouble to make a holiday as perfect as possible. We thoroughly recommend these cottages and certainly always do to friends and family.

Virginia Cottage, East Dunley Cottages

  • 5 of 5

This is a delightful cottages, a real home from home where everything has been thought of to make your stay a comfortable and very pleasant one. The owners can't do enough fo you and we cannot recommend these cottages highly enough. All the cottages that we've stayed in at East Dunley have been clean, well maintained, and equipped with all you'll need from a holiday home. The accommodation is located about a mile and a half from Bovey Tracey with all its amenities including a local butcher who does gorgeous freshly roasted chickens and various other culinary delights, besides the usual meat products. Additionally, there's a Farmers market once a fortnight. There's a small Tesco which remains open until late plus a Spar shop and post office, and a Lloyds pharmacy to name but a few. We can highly recommend The Dolphin Public House in Bovey Tracey who have a varied menu and daily specials board, and the Brookside Cafe does a lovely breakfast, lunch or cream tea depending on your tastes. You will find a Tourist Information centre in the car park in Station Road, plus there are two further car parks close to the shops and another located at the top of the town. Haytor with its wonderful views is about a ten minute car journey and Teighnmouth, with all its seaside attractions, is about twenty minutes away and is one of our favourite destinations. We have been back several times now and would thoroughly recommend the properties here to all our friends and relatives. Thank you Annie and Andy and all the Ayres family for making us feel so at home. Can't wait to come back!

Had a great time in Virginia cottage. Lovely welcome from Annie and Andy and their family, made to feel so at home by all of them.

This is the best equipped self catering accommodation we have ever stayed in, having everything you could need provided including some lovely wine, chocolates and home made marmalade.

Listing is completely accurate for all details. Property very clean and well maintained.

Overall small but perfectly formed, would have no hesitation in recommending this property to friends and family.

Only a stones throw from Dartmoor. Also only about 5/10 minutes from the A38 making it easy to visit the resorts in the north and south. Despite being so close there is no traffic noise and the cottage is quiet and peaceful.

We would love to return for another fortnight. Thank you all for a wonderful holiday.

The coast at Teignmouth is about half an hour by car. Torbay the "English Riviera" will take a little longer.

Exeter airport is the closest .

The closest bus route runs through Chudleigh Knighton, 1 mile along the woods footpath but for easy access to everything a car is essential.

Bovey Tracey and Chudleigh Knighton are about 1.5 miles, the larger town of Newton Abbot approximately 6 miles. Exeter, cathedral city, 20 minutes drive and Plymouth, with its National Sealife Centre and Plymouth Hoe within 30 minutes drive.

Further Details:

Banks, shops, tea rooms can all be found in Bovey Tracey, Pubs/restaurants are in Bovey Tracey and Chudleigh Knighton. The larger town of Newton Abbot has a full range of banks, shops, a market and the big supermarkets. Tourist information centres in Bovey Tracey and by the Haytor car park. There is a summer open air swimming pool in Bovey Tracey and a leisure centre in Newton Abbot.
