Orchard Cottage is set in idyllic rural Suffolk on a smallholding. Wildlife is abundant on Mellis common and the wildflower season is breathtaking. There is plenty of choice for walking, cycling and horse riding. Local attractions include market towns, farm shops, art trails, fishing, golf courses, historic houses and much more. There is a good choice of pubs close by. London Liverpool Street is 90 mins away and there are good local bus routes. Outdoor furniture and a barbecue are supplied. A single bed can be arranged if a double bed is not suitable. Well behaved dogs are welcome and up to two horses by prior arrangement.
My husband Richard, our two boys and I moved to Mellis from busy Hertfordshire in 2011. We had often holidayed in Suffolk and had longed to live here. The locals are really friendly and have made us as a family very welcome, already we feel like we have lived here forever! Our horses, dogs and chickens are completely at home and have made local friends too!! We love being part of village life where there is always something going on.
Penny Bullock purchased this cottage in 2011
"Great space, lovely place from which to explore. Penny made us feel very welcome."
"A very peaceful location and well equipped cottage. Great local lanes for cycling and walking."
"A wonderful cottage with its' own wow factor. Loved the garden and its' wildlife. Suffolk is a wonderful county, great manor houses and castles. Had a really peaceful and relaxing time"
We had a lovely stay. Penny is so friendly. Made us feel very welcome. Hope to visit again soon.
Orchard Cottage is a comfortable and spacious retreat from the pressures of day-to-day life which sits in its own private garden plot. Tucked away in a rural setting, it is nonetheless within an easy drive of a wide range of shops, restaurants and pubs. Getting out and about to visit local landmarks and attractions is also straightforward. The owner is welcoming and helpful and has provided a very attractive home from home.
For us the cottage was ideal as we were visiting relations in the area. It was very comfortable and well thought out in design only downside for us was the bathroom shower was a bit of a pain. we did understand the reason for not having proper shower and it didnt spoil our stay. The owner was very nice and helpfull and we did like the eggs and cake left out for us on arrival overall a good stay.
We have just returned from a wonderful week at Orchard Cottage. Penny was very welcoming; there were fresh eggs, tea, apple juice and flowers in the cottage and she brought a jug of milk for our tea. The garden to the property is ideal if you have dogs and Mellis Common is a beautiful place to walk them. It was also a good base for cycling through the lovely lanes and villages. Suffolk has very few hills compared to our native Cumbria which was good for me! The cottage itself was very clean and well equipped if you want to self cater as we did. I think I can say it is by far the best cottage we have ever rented. Highly recommended.
A fantastic week away in a beautiful, quiet location. The weather was amazing and we couldn't have asked for a better place to spend it.
The cottage is spacious and well equipped. The large garden was loved by our two Jack Russell's who loved running running back and forth.
Penny and Richard were lovely and welcoming, they were always on hand to help, Special thanks to them :)
We will definitely be back soon and would recommend this cottage and it surroundings to everyone
This is our second stay here at Orchard Cottage. We find it perfect for us there is everything you need while self catering. Lovely space in the house lots of character, and very peaceful.
Penny and her husband Richard make us feel like old friends when we arrive and through our stay are always on hand to help us with any questions about where to visit and the best times to go.
We like it so much that we are going again next May. Can't praise this cottage and Penny enough
