About Penny Bullock

My husband Richard, our two boys and I moved to Mellis from busy Hertfordshire in 2011. We had often holidayed in Suffolk and had longed to live here. The locals are really friendly and have made us as a family very welcome, already we feel like we have lived here forever! Our horses, dogs and chickens are completely at home and have made local friends too!! We love being part of village life where there is always something going on.

Lovely property to stay in

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely week at Orchard Cottage. Very comfortable and warm and everything we wanted. Only down side for us was the garden was not fully enclosed and our dogs escaped through the hedging close to the house. Enjoyed seeing the wildlife visiting the garden from bats, rabbits, moorhens, a toad and a muntjac.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback and review . I'm sorry that the garden wasn't secure enough for your dogs and I'm glad that you enjoyed the variety of wildlife we have here. I will attend to the gap in the hedge .

The cottage was bright and airy, but also offered privacy being well situated outside the village.

We enjoyed the cottage's lovely setting: outside the village, but conveniently close to larger towns and the Suffolk coast. It is a dog friendly property, so it offers plenty of picturesque walks on and around the common and nearby fens. We discovered the Wyken winery a short drive away that offered a tempting Saturday market, coffee hut and a wonderful gift shop where we were able to taste the local award winning wines. The restaurant also looked very tempting---receiving a Michelin listing.

Our host, Penny, was very welcoming, leaving us a basket of fresh eggs and dropping by with some home baked cookies. The apples from the orchard tree were also delicious.

We would definitely visit again and recommend this cottage to all.

Suffolk in May

  • 5 of 5

This has been our third visit to Orchard Cottage and always in May. The cottage is pretty and well equipped, we are still finding places to go on our third visit. Penny and Richard are wonderful nothing to much trouble, and by now they are firm friends. Would be more than happy to visit again in the future
