La Marcelliere is a comfortable apartment located in a residential area of the seaside resort of Les Sables d'Olonne on the Vendee coast in Western France. It is only a 5 minute walk from the beach and surf school, and within easy reach of the main attractions and restaurants of the town. Private first floor 2 bedroom apartment, with views over the gardens that surround the building. Large sliding windows to let in the light and cool coastal breezes.

The apartment is accessed via a locked entry stairwell and has a private parking space underneath the building.

Inside there is a bright and airy lounge with a TV, stereo and Wi-Fi internet connection. The kitchen is well-equipped and there is a dining area overlooking the gardens.

There are two bedrooms – one with a double bed and the other with two single beds and the shower room has a shower cubicle, basin and WC.

Outside the apartment block is a large garden area – ideal for sunbathing and picnics.

This is an ideal base from which to explore the Sables d'Olonne area - either on foot, bike or car. The area is very flat, so is ideal for cycling - with many cycle lanes throughout the town. Les Sables d'Olonne is a large town with activities laid on for every season, so is not just a summer holiday destination! The Vendee Globe starts here, International Festivals and concerts are held here, and rail/road transport links are great!

Lovely apartment - a home away from home

The apartment is very spacious and very comfortable. All of the essential items are provided such as toilet roll, kitchen roll, tea bags and every kitchen implement you could ever need! The under apartment parking is fantastic as there is no worry about finding a space or your car being unbearably hot when you get in it. The beach is a pleasant 10 minute stroll but the main restaurants and bars are a good half hour walk away. There is a restaurant much nearer but we found the prices a bit steep. The area is very quiet so, if you don't mind walking or driving in the evening then this is a perfect place to stay.

There is also a selection of restaurants within a 5 minute walk - towards the Casino and zoo.

Les Sables d'Olonne - clean,quiet,comfy apartment

A lovely apartment in a quiet residential area. Apartment is very equipped and is truly 'a home from home'. Our reservation was most efficiently handled and we were met on arrival. We would be most happy to recommend La Marcelliere and would like to return there ourselves. We spent quite a lot of our time at the nearest beach and found the nearest restaurant to the apartment, l'Oree des Pins, by far the best of all we tried, and good value also.

Fantastic summer holiday at Sables D'Olonne

This is our 3rd year staying at La Marcelliere, we love coming here! Iona and Barry have thought about all the little bits that make a self catering holiday so much easier, clingfilm, spare essentials, milk to get that first cuppa etc. The flat is in a perfect location, very quiet but a lovely 15 -20 mins stroll to the beach or into town or 5-10 mins walk to the big supermarkets. Needless to say, we will be back again.

Well appointed, spacious apartment

We spent a lovely week at the apartment. It was well equipped with everything we needed, clean, comfortable and light and airy.

Under-property parking meant we never had to drive around looking for a space and the car was always cool.

It was within walking distance to Tanchet beach and the zoo, although the main beach and the majority of bars and shops were better reached by car. The apartment was just around the corner from the tennis club, which was a big bonus for a tennis loving family.

I would definitely recommend this apartment and would return to it again, if in the area.

Owner's Response: Yes, the apartment is well situated with many tourist attractions nearby - the beach, the zoo, a casino, some restaurants and lots of shops. The main town centre with the long beach and Harbour side restaurants is only a 20 minute walk or 5 minute drive away.

Marcellière Apartment has been owned by Barry and Iona since 2009 and they have enjoyed many family holidays here in les Sables d'Olonne. As their family has grown up, they have decided to rent out the apartment and have asked Annette & Jason Khan to look after the rentals. The owners live in a small village 40 minutes away from the apartment, and they bought it to be nearer to the coast and because there is always lots going on in Sables d'Olonne. The apartment is only a 5 minute walk to the beach and is on a bus route to the centre of town (or a 20 minute walk). They love the town of Sables d'Olonne with its many restaurants, beachside cafés and bustling harbour. Many of the restaurants have seafood menus - with produce taken straight off the boats in the harbour.

Coast/Beach:

The fabulous beach at Les Sables d'Olonne stretches as far as the eye can see. It is ideal for children as it is very open and flat - and makes great sand castles! At one end there is a surf school and the waves are so good that International Surfing competitions are regularly held here.

Les Sables d'Olonne is the tourist capital of the 'Côte de Lumière'. La Grande Plage is reputed to be the best beach in Europe - in the form of an arc facing south and protected from the dominant winds.

Travel:

The main ferry ports of northern France start from as little as 3.25 hours away (St Malo) to 6.25 hours (Calais & Eurotunnel)

The airports at Nantes (1.25h) and La Rochelle (1.75h) are both served by various budget airlines from the UK and car hire is available at both.

The TGV train travels between Paris and Les Sables d'Olonne with journey times from 3.5 hours.

Distances:

The apartment is only a 5 minute walk to the nearest beach and 20 minutes to the centre of Les Sables. There is also a bus route nearby.

The centre of Les Sables has a bustling market hall and pedestrianized shopping streets. The beach front has a long esplanade - great for walking and cycling - as well as many beach front cafes, bars and restaurants.

You need never leave the town, as there is always something to do or see - festivals, concerts, firework displays, & many other events.

Further Details:

The apartment is located only a short drive from a large shopping centre - with Geant supermarket and many other shops. There are too many restaurants to mention by name, but the harbour area is a great place to explore for meals - with freshly caught seafood a speciality!

Les Sables has a zoo, casino, sports complex, shell museum, salt-pans, and is surrounded on the north side by pine forests. Fishing boats can be hired for a morning's sea fishing. To the north of Les Sables is an area of Salt Pans - which can be explored by guided boats - very interesting!

Further afield, the nearby town of Talmont st Hilaire and its marina are worth a visit. You will find a ruined castle with re-enactments, car museum, horse racing track, oyster farms, a lovely beach with a lagoon behind and great waves for surfing.

The coastline on either side of Les Sables has some great beaches to explore - with rock pools and seaside cafés.

Further inland, there is the world famous Puy du Fou Historical Theme Park - with Gladiators, Vikings, Musketeers, Medieval Knights and a fantastic bird of prey show, along with a late evening show with a cast of 1000 and firework display.

The Venise Verte, network of canals and beautiful countryside is only 90 minutes away - a great way to spend a relaxing day - punting along a quiet canal, surrounded by local wildlife. There are also several ruined abbeys to explore in this area.

The old Port at La Rochelle is only 90 minutes away, and is a great spot for people watching whilst sitting in one of the harbour front cafés. The Aquarium is a must-see and the evening street entertainment and markets are worth seeing.

The apartment is located in a residential area of Sables d'Olonne, and is only a short distance to a large shopping centre, a casino and sports complex, a zoo, and the long promenade pavement that runs the full length of the beach into the centre of Sables d'Olonne. One of the main benefits to having an apartment with parking, is that during the Vendee Globe Round the World Yacht Race - you are within walking distance of the yachts, promotional village and organised events. This happens every other year, with the next one happening in 2016. The town population doubles in size and is buzzing!

All bed linens and tea towels are provided during your holiday, but please bring your own towels and beach towels. There is an allocated parking space beneath the apartment. Guests are welcome to use the communal gardens surrounding the apartment. Outside: The apartment block is surrounded by large gardens and is not overlooked by neighbouring properties. Access to the apartment is controlled via a ground floor lockable door and buzzer system. The apartment has its own lockable front door on the first floor.
