Overview

About the property

Period 2-bedroomed cottage in Puddletown, Dorchester, Dorset - Attractive Dorset Village With Well-stocked Shop And Gastro Pub. Good Walking Closeby

Enjoying a secluded village setting our period cottage has a main bedroom, a twin bedroom and bathroom upstairs. Downstairs there is a sitting room, separate dining room and separate, well-equipped kitchen with walk-in pantry. It is pleasantly furnished with fitted carpeting throughout and gas central heating, plenty of light, ceilings of a good height and attractive views. However, it's an old-fashioned cottage and, although it offers a welcoming rustic charm (and free wifi), it would not suit those seeking a contemporary feel.

The cottage is suitable for up to 2 adults and 2 children (over the age of 9), or for up to 3 adults. Regrettably we don't accept children under 9 years or pets.

The pretty cottage garden is long and narrow and enjoys the sun until mid-afternoon in summer. The Cottage has its own carport with secluded parking as well as plenty of parking for visitors. The footpath from the cottage gate crosses the little river Piddle and leads into the heart of the old village which has an excellent gastro-pub and a well-stocked village shop with late opening hours.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The locality of the cottage is very good to explore Dorset and it is very comfortable with everything necessary for your stay. The owners, Nick and Lauran, are extremely welcoming and helpful but will not intrude on your visit. My boyfriend and I have now visited twice and fully intend to return. There is a very good gastro-pub just opposite the cottage with great food, good service and a very friendly atmosphere.TA

A great relaxing holiday in a beautiful setting. Amenities within the cottage were good, very clean and a well stocked kitchen with both washing machine and tumble dryer. All in all I cannot recommend this highly enough. TA

We found this cottage was ideal for our visit to Thomas Hardy country: the perfect base for walks through Puddletown Forest to Hardy's birthplace and for touring Dorchester, Stinsford, and to the coast. The cottage is furnished with attention to cosy detail. The fabrics and furniture have been carefully chosen to enhance the warm home-from-home. TA

Look no further

  • 5 of 5

If you are after a comfortable cottage is easy commuting distance across the whole of Dorset, look no further. After being shown round the cottage by Laural and Nick, we knew the cottage was ideal for our needs. It had every household item you could want and was extremely comfortable. As far as location is concerned, we wanted a quiet countryside setting and that is what we got. The cottage is in a very secluded position and gave us the escape we needed for our holiday.

As well as a quiet location, we wanted to be able to get to the south coast with ease. With the "A" roads within minutes of the cottage we were able to get to Weymouth in 20 minutes, Poole in 25 minutes and Bournemouth in 30 minutes. Had we been on the coast in any location, the travelling time to the other seaside resorts would have been much longer as you need to go past Puddletown to get to the other seaside resports.

In all we had a fantastic break at this cottage and spent little time travelling around Dorset - everything we needed from a isolated and comfortable cottage within easy commuting distance of the whole of Dorset.

As I said earlier. "Look no further".

Perfect for visiting Dorset

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is situated in an excellent position to visit and tour Dorset. It has a rustic charm but with everything that you need to be comfortable. Although it is attached to the main house, it is very private. The owners made us very welcome and it would have been very easy to ask for help if there was a problem. The stair is steep which might be a consideration if you have mobility issues but it does have very well positioned handrails.

As a gardener, the highlight of my stay was Athelhampton Gardens which are very close by. I also enjoyed Abbotsbury Swannery and would recommend their Dorset apple cake.

Cosy comfortable well equipped cottage

  • 5 of 5

On our arrival we were greeted by the owners, Nick and Lauran, they were so friendly and welcoming. Lauran showed us round the cottage and made sure we knew how everything worked and had all that we needed - she had kindly left milk and teabags in case we needed a cuppa! The cottage itself was clean and comfortable, we found the beds gave us a good nights sleep. Its well equipped and has a little private garden area too, there are some garden chairs should you wish to sit outside. It is in a very pretty village and a quiet spot yet within easy reach of lots of super places. The village has a good shop and post office, excellent doctors surgery (my daughter had an ear infection so we tested the doctors out!) and you can get onto the main A35 in minutes and reach Dorchester in 10 minutes and Poole in 30 minutes. We didn't eat there but the Blue Vinny would be very handy - just a walk down the drive and across the road. All in all a very good place to stay - we would recommend and definitely would use this cottage again ourselves. Thank you very much to Nick and Lauran.

Most enjoyable stay in delightful cottage.

  • 5 of 5

Was greeted by the friendly and helpful owner, who showed us around the cottage which was as attractive as described and had everything needed for a pleasant stay. Situated in a very pleasant village from where a large number of places for a day out were within easy reach. After a day out a very good place for a drink and a meal was The Blue Vinny, just a hundred yards walk down an attractive tree lined driveway. We ate there 3 times and each meal was very good. There are numerous other pubs offering meals within an easy drive. The Thimble just a few minutes drive up the road was another where we enjoyed a meal. Another lane running by the cottage gives an easy walk to the local shop. Al in in all a great place to stay for a relaxing week in a pleasant village. Wouldn't hesitate to go again, very good value and would recommend highly.

Good country cottage

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had a lovely relaxing week in Dorset staying in the cottage. It was clean, tidy and had all that we needed to enjoy our stay.

It was conveniently located for all that Dorset has to offer and we would recommend the cottage to anyone looking for a quiet peaceful and relaxing week. Jon Thompson

Very relaxing holiday

  • 4 of 5

A well positioned holiday cottage in striking distance of many places of interest, whatever the weather. We found the property to be very clean and well-equipped for our needs and extremely cosy. Having both a grocery shop and restaurant/pub in easy walking distance was a bonus, as was the view of deer from our bedroom window most mornings. We also appreciated the warm welcome from the friendly owners who were on hand if needed.
