Large 3 bedroom stone cottage near beach, incredibly well equipped and furnished with BT Broadband, peace & quiet

One of the largest stone built terraced cottages and closest to the beach, in the fishing port of Amble by the Sea, with a lovely sunny rear terrace and kitchen. The two living rooms are warm and cosy, whilst the bedrooms with original fireplaces are light and cheerful with John Lewis, Laura Ashley and White Company bedding and curtains. There is free unlimited BT Broadband available. and the cottage is on the Northumberland cycle route, and accesses some wonderful coastal and country walks with its location a mile from Warkworth. Safe off-road parking at the rear. There are all the shops you could need, an award winning fish and chip shop, numerous restaurants and an Italian ice cream parlour within a ten minute walk, and on the way you can watch the fisherman land their catch, take in the view of Warkworth Castle and the river Coquet and see the yachts in the marina. We will accept ONE dog with its own bed, at a cost of £20

My name is Sandra Ridley and I actually grew up in the property which my parents bought in 1954, so you see I love it, and we also use it, which is why it is so well equipped and comfortable. We live near York and in winter in South Africa. I went to school in Morpeth and my parents had a shop in Amble. Family and old friends are still in Northumberland.

Why Sandra Ridley chose Amble

My parents bought the house in 1954 and the front room was a sweet shop which my mother ran so she could be at home for me. We kept the house after my mum had to go into a home suffering sadly from dementia, where she died in 2006. We eventually decided to rent the house to allow us to keep it. We still enjoy it, and the feedback from guests has given us great pleasure. Our aim is to make it a comfortable place to be, and it seems our guests agree with us.

What makes this cottage unique

Amble is becoming a unique place, as it is a small town with all the facilities you could need within walking distance, however because it is bounded by the sea and the river Coquet, it is also very open, with lots of walks and the beaches. Our property is one of the closest to the sea, being the last of the terraces before the beach and piers, open at the rear with safe off street parking. It is also one of the largest of the cottages in the town, deceptively spacious "like a Tardis" as more than one guest remarked.

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: All rooms are fully heated, it is a very warm and cosy house with very thick stone walls, a great winter walking base as well as a summer-by-the-beach holiday home. We have been told it is "like a tardis" and "home from home". Outside: A paved terrace with round table, chairs, pots and plants, very sunny and sheltered and a tap to wash off sandy feet and pets! A walk in cupboard contains iron, ironing board, trays, high chair, travel cot, cleaning equipment, magimix and hand mixer and baking tins. This is a house equipped to live in. An outside room has golf trolleys and can store bicycles. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen and towels are included, the property is cleaned weekly with linen change and our cleaner Tanya lives very close and can quickly deal with any concerns. Warm and comfortable

We enjoyed our stay but were disappointed to find there was no WiFi. The website we had used said there was free wifi

Owner's Response: We ordered BT wifi, but they will only post it to the address where it will be used, not to our home 125 miles away, so there has been a delay, as they also need to re-activate the line, and don't work Saturdays - our changeover day. The new date for activation is 29th January, but also HomeAway had ticked the box that Wifi was available, when they bought the Owners Direct agency and added properties to their site. This was an error, however, it will be active for all of 2018. I do however wish, given our guest said they enjoyed their stay, that they had added something about why it was good, but she wasn't someone who communicated much in the booking. I think you will have to assume from previous guests that it is as it should be, and its a shame to lose our 5 star rating based on purely Wifi alone. I have noticed people are less concerned, as most stay only one week, and also have phones which pick up emails, but be assured it will be available. Costs are just as high for inexpensive rental areas and its a balancing act as to how much you can afford to provide and still make any profit.

Very comfortable and well equipped cottage in an ideal location to explore the local area

We had a really lovely stay at Sandpiper Cortsge. It was comfortable, well equipped, clean and ideal for us having a young family and dog. Very easy to pop out for a walk or to the beach to make a few sand castles! The rooms are very spacious and beds comfortable. There are plenty of good places to eat locally or everything you need in the kitchen to cater for yourself. The fish and chips are excellent - portions are HUGE! And the Boathouse is a must if you enjoy seafood. It's also an ideal location to explore the local area. I would definitely recommend this to anyone wishing to stay in the area.

A lovely, comfortable holiday home

The house is a large mid terraced home from home with a small, enclosed rear yard. It is clean, comfortable, spacious and very well equipped. Parking was easy and always available either at the front or rear of the house. The bedrooms are very large with extremely comfortable beds.

The harbour area is a two minute walk from the rear entrance and the main shopping street is within five minutes. Amble is a very good base for exploring this beautiful part of Northumberland. It appears to be benefitting from some regeneration with trendy restaurants and cafes not to mention the little pod retail outlets by the harbour.

The booking process was simple. Sandra responded immediately to any emails and offered a lot of helpful information about Amble. We have no hesitation in recommending Sandpiper Cottage and would be happy to return inthe future.

Owner's Response: This is a good review, and I am always happy when a guest has enjoyed our holiday home enough to want to tell others about it. There is however, one minor part of it I would like to clarify, and that is the description of the house having a small enclosed rear yard. We have paved the rear "area", it is entirely private on both sides, BUT the end has a low stone wall with small gate where there is a table and four chairs. It is very sunny there most of the day so is a very useful space. I suppose it is enclosed, more or less, but that wouldn't make me visualise it as a sunny terrace. The answer will be to take another photo of it and include it in the listing!

Sandpiper is a good place to stay in Northumberland as you are only short drives away from all the best places to see but with the harbour and beach only 1 minute away

We do our best to create a comfortable, well equipped holiday home, which we and our family use too, so it is better furnished and equipped than most. We do spend money every Jan/Feb in upgrading one room fully, so that there is no part of the house tired or worn.

Very cosy warm cottage, ideally situated for the harbour and town centre. Had a lovely week in a beautiful area. Lovely beaches, gorgeous villages and towns and very warm friendly people. Would definitely visit the area again as we didn't manage to see everything in one week.

Location

Coast/Beach:

50 yards to the nearest beach and to the harbour,river, pier and promenade.

From Amble to the beaches of Warkworth,is 5 minutes. Alnmouth and the town of Alnwick are a further 15 minutes drive or a longer cycle. Rothbury, Wooler and Craster are close, but don't forget Newcastle with its quayside restaurants, galleries, shopping and the Geordie sense of humour.

Travel:

Amble is 40 minutes drive from Newcastle and its airport and port,

East coast main line train service to Alnmouth 7 miles away by taxi.

Distances:

Morpeth 25 minutes

Alnwick 15 minutes

Newcastle 45 minutes

Hexham 1 hour

Berwick 1 hour

Edinburgh 2 hours or train from Alnmouth.
