Cottage in Dunster, Somerset, England - At The Foot Of Dunster Castle Within The Heart Of This Medieval Village, In The Exmoor National Park

Castle Rest is a beautifully presented two bedroom grade two listed holiday cottage nestled at the foot of Dunster Castle, and located in the heart of the idyllic Dunster village. If you dream of a romantic, magical and tranquil retreat in the heart of Exmoor then Castle Rest is absolutely perfect. Standing proudly in West Street one of the oldest streets in the village and opposite a historic 16th century inn & St George's Church with the sounds of church bells being played regularly. stay in dunster village ... oct 2016

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful few days at this property .... it was a sight for sore eyes when we walked through the door... we had kindly had a call to see if we wanted to cancel as they were refurbishing the pavement directly outside...and we declined... as boy were we glad.

The house was beautifully furnished, had a real homely feel as soon as you walked through the door.. we had a welcome bottle of wine and cake , which was a lovely touch...The house was cleanliness itself and in a prime location for visiting Wells Cathedral, Minehead, Clovelly, with its winding high street... lots of hidden jems of villages close by... All in all a great place to visit in Somerset... There is a very lovely pup directly opposite searving very delicious food until around 21.30 but also several other exceptional eateries just around the corning near the yarn market.. I will be visiting this location again... Little Gem

Gorgeous Village, Pretty Cottage, Great Location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 6 nights. The cottage was clean and as described. The location could not have been better in this beautiful village. The cottage had everything we could need for our stay, and more! We enjoyed our drinks and meals at the Luttrell Arms and the Stags Head. We loved the tiny nearby village of Selworthy Green and it's lovely tea room. We also loved Winsford in Exmoor National Park and it's beautiful thatched pub. Thanks from, Anne and Ken, Sydney Australia

Delightful cottage

  • 5 of 5

The cottage 'Castle Rest' has real character and is located in the heart of Dunster. It was clean, tidy, spacious and the fresh flowers and welcome pack of wine and cake were very much appreciated. The cottage was very well equipped for self catering. When busy, however, it may be necessary to park a little distance away from the cottage. Dunster is a charming mediaeval village with lots of interesting nooks and crannies and a great variety of tea shops, eateries and pubs. As NT members we spent a full day at Dunster Castle taking advantage of guided tours and exploring its extensive grounds including the old water powered mill. We also travelled on the steam hauled West Somerst Railway. Our main object was to explore Exmoor on foot including walks from Dunster to Porlock and scenic Porlock Weir, returning by bus, North Hill, Dunkery Beacon and Dunster Deer Park where several trails are waymarked including the Tall Trees Trail of impressive Douglas Firs. The whole booking process was efficient and courteous and we would be happy to recommend Castle Rest and the area. Thank you.

Beautiful Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Delightful, well equipped cottage with a real homely feel. Greeted on arrival with beautiful flowers, cake plus tea and coffee ready for a drink. Just perfect after a long journey. The cottage is easily found. Lots of information in the cottage to help with days out and facilities near by. Recommend The Luttrell Arms (dinner) and the Castle Coffee Shop (breakfast), plus The Mill Tea shop for refreshments. The Dunster Castle is a must, everyone was so welcoming and helpful. Castle staff are exceptionally knowledgeable. We participated in archery and shooting in the castle grounds, great fun. Try the Dunster Castle Trail and a wonder around the Dream Garden. Dunster is a lovely place to visit. Parking can be difficult and the Church bells annoying throughout the night so would recommend ear plugs and alcohol!! The bells are historic thanks to a late Lord Luttrell! The nearest supermarket is on the edge of Minehead (a few minutes up the road), sells fuel too. Beaches are a short drive away. A really lovely holiday which we will definitely repeat again. Thanks for having us.

A lovely cottage in Dunster, perfectly located for exploring Exmoor and it's surroundings. All rooms and facilities were well kitted out with a lot of attention to detail, well thought out. Nice touch with the cake and wine on arrival. Highly recommended.
