Julie and Will - Thank you for a great short break, we absolutely loved our time at " The Coach House", it was so peaceful and relaxing with beautiful walks on the moors, just what we needed. We had a great meal at the Rock Inn. We would really recommend the coach house and hope to see you next year. Jo,Phil and Doug the Frenchie :)

Wonderful Coach House

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the Coach House. Will & Julie could not have been more helpful & welcoming. The cottage is very well equipped, clean & the wood burner fire is a real bonus! Fantastic views, idyllic setting, complete peace & quite - just what we needed to get away from it all! Waking to the sound of the birds & the sheep with visits from the pets & hens every morning! Short drive into Horrabridge or Tavistock for all your essentials. Great pub in Horrabridge The London Inn - good food, good value. We would highly recommend staying at the Coach House & can't wait to visit again in September! Just don't tell everyone about this hidden gem or there will no spaces left for our return visits!

Perfect retreat

  • 5 of 5

The Coach House was a perfect retreat- very cosy, comfortable and peaceful. The cottage has everything you need and a lovely private garden. There are walks straight from the door on to Dartmoor or through quiet lanes to small hamlets. We hardly saw a soul while we were there and found it very relaxing. A few chickens wander free range in the garden and the owner invited us to try their eggs which we did on one occasion and found them delicious! We only met the owners briefly but they were friendly and helpful. Excellent value for money with flexible start /end dates- all in all a perfect break and we would happily return.

Super Coach House

  • 4 of 5

Ideal , well appointed character cottage in a lovely peaceful setting.

Ideally placed for direct access to Dartmore for car and walking.

Property is clean and well maintained and we were always greeted by Twiggy (spanial) and feline friend.

Julie and Will were very helpfull and we would recommend this property to anyone.

Location

Activity and Interests

Special interest holidays:

On Dartmoor there is so much to do including; Walking, horse riding, climbing, cycling, canoeing, letterboxing (great fun) and Geocaching!

Distances:

Plymouth is the nearest city and is just 12 miles away and it has a real metroploitan buzz. Steeped in history and linked to SIr Francis Drake and the Pilgrim Fathers, it also has a great harbour and lots of things to do. Check out the superb marine aquarium, go ice skating, or visit Drakes Shopping Mall. The village of Horrabridge is a 5 minute walk down the hill. The nearest town of Tavistock is a 10 minute drive.

Further Details:

Staying at Monkswell you will be in easy reach (3.0 miles) of visiting the dramatic landscapes of Dartmoor used in Steven Spielburgs latest film The War Horse.

Monkswell is on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park so it is well placed to explore the 368 square miles of outstanding countryside.

There are some excellent pubs nearby that include; The London Inn & the Leaping Salmon. Just a short drive away there are more great pubs including The quaint Whitchurch inn, the Peter Tavy Inn, Elephants Nest and a number more on Dartmoor.

Lydford Gorge is one of Devon's gems...it's the deepest gorge in the whole of the south West, and it's surrounded by ancient woodland.

The river Lyd at this stretch is fast flowing, and the gorge features two "must see" attractions - the White Lady Waterfall and Devil's Cauldron.

Dartmoor is great for kids. In addition to everything else that you can see on this page, you can also go to Pony centres, Dartmoor zoo, Farms,

do a Dartmoor tresure trail

(after purchasing trail books), Donkey park, Dartmoor Prison museum, Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre and much more!

As well as seeing Dartmoor ponies across the moorland, you can also ride horses across many parts of Dartmoor. Cholwell Riding Stables at Mary Tavy is situated between Okehampton and Tavistock. Rides are available across Dartmoor, novice and experienced riders taken, qualified tuition, hard hats. Experienced escorts open all year.

On Dartmoor, there are a number of options for fishing that can include fly fishing and river fishing for Salmon, Trout Aand Sea Trout. You will need permits to fish and we do have contacts with guided fishing tours as well so there are quite a few options for keen anglers.
