Bacons is situated in a lovely part of the New Forest and from the front gate you can walk straight onto the open heathland. There are many walks and cycle rides which are accessible from the cottage, without the need to drive. The original property is from the 17th century and was made of cob and the restored and extended in the 19th century. There is an original thatched building, built of cob- 'The Hovel' in the grounds. About MR PAUL KINNEAR

I live and work in London We have owned Bacons since 1991 and it has been a wonderful family home for the holidays. The children are now grown-up but we still like to come to Bacons for peace and quiet when we can!

We love walking, and the beauty of Bacon's position in the Forest, is that you can park the car outside and there is no need to drive again until it is time to leave.

MR PAUL KINNEAR purchased this house in 1991

Why MR PAUL KINNEAR chose New Forest

Wonderfully quiet away from roads and on a country track. Open aspect with views over the Forest with Forest animals right up to the gate!

Wonderful location and lovely character cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful weekend break to celebrate a friends 50th birthday. This involved 2 great walks in the forest and lunch out. The food in the Forest Arms was particularly good. We would all love to return. Our only negative comment is that the piano needs tuning.

Owner's Response: Thank you, we are delighted enjoyed the weekend, it is a wonderful venue for family 'grt-togethers and birthday celebrations. The piano is a beautiful old instrument, but sadly so old that it no longer maintains its tuning and is now just a 'honkey-tonk' enjoyed by variuos children.

Very good property in great location

  • 4 of 5

Stayed here for a family weekend away. Spent a lot of time eating and playing games in the large comfortable dining room with extra sitting area. The property has good-sized and comfortable double/twin bedrooms and we also really enjoyed walking straight out of the house and the local pub.

We had a thoroughly restful family break which was even better in the hectic build up to Christmas to avoid the usual chaos

The cottage has a warm. Welcoming feel which makes you happy to spend time there

Charming property that you won't want to leave

  • 5 of 5

For the second year running we have used this property as an escape from the daily grind and to re-unite with old friends. The property is so inviting and accommodating with every room well proportioned and decorated to a high standard. It feels just like home though, and the kitchen and living room are so welcoming that you'll never want to set foot outside the door. When you do though, be prepared for lovely walks across heathland filled with ponies, to nearby forests and small hamlets sheltering great local pubs.

The only fault we could find was that one of the keys of the piano is a bit off, but we then enjoyed the thought that this unlocked a secret door somewhere - it's that kind of property! Would not hesitate to return, five stars.
