About the Owner

I live and work in London We have owned Bacons since 1991 and it has been a wonderful family home for the holidays. The children are now grown-up but we still like to come to Bacons for peace and quiet when we can!

We love walking, and the beauty of Bacon's position in the Forest, is that you can park the car outside and there is no need to drive again until it is time to leave.

Charming property that you won't want to leave

  • 5 of 5

For the second year running we have used this property as an escape from the daily grind and to re-unite with old friends. The property is so inviting and accommodating with every room well proportioned and decorated to a high standard. It feels just like home though, and the kitchen and living room are so welcoming that you'll never want to set foot outside the door. When you do though, be prepared for lovely walks across heathland filled with ponies, to nearby forests and small hamlets sheltering great local pubs.

The only fault we could find was that one of the keys of the piano is a bit off, but we then enjoyed the thought that this unlocked a secret door somewhere - it's that kind of property! Would not hesitate to return, five stars.

Ideal for a Large Family Holiday

  • 5 of 5

Bacons is set in a great garden and is in a wonderful location in the New Forest with the Sea only 25 minutes away. The property is laid back and not too formal or fussy so we felt cosy and at home as soon as we arrived. Our party comprised 6 adults, one 7 year old, one 3 year old and a 1 year old and there was more than enough space for all of us. The local pub is a few minutes walk and Hockey's Farm shop a few minutes drive. The children enjoyed the rope swings and also the variety of animals including, ponies, donkeys and cows that visited the garden gate each morning. early morning sightings of deer in the garden were also a treat. The kitchen was very well stocked with equipment and there were books and games scattered across the house for adults and children alike. If you are looking for a relaxed, lived-in cottage in the New Forest then this is probably the one for you!

Wonderful country cottage

  • 5 of 5

Our second stay at Beacons, and an ideal gathering place for our family. Ponies, donkeys, cattle and deer on the doorstep - literally. At the northern end of the forest but our grown up family love it.

Bacons Cottage on Hyde Common New Forest

  • 4 of 5

Just returned from a lovely week again at Bacons. We have been about 5 times now.We are a group of 6 that love the area especially our dogs.

Again could'nt fault the accommodation but would really appreciate the seating in the lounge area to be updated.Beautiful leather sofa but the others are a challenge in them selves to sit for any length of time.

Hope this might be helpful for others who book but the area itself is stunning and would always recommend the property to friends and family.

Owner's Response: Thank you, we are delighted you have chosen Bacons for the fifth time, you are always welcome as 'old friends'! Appreciate your comments about the sitting room and will plan to upgrade the small sofa, which agree is now a 'bit tired'.. Best wishes Paul

Fantastic location and excellent 'home from home'

  • 5 of 5

I booked this cottage for a family holiday for 8 and I was not disappointed. A fantastic cottage much like a home from home. The family and myself were very much pleased upon our arrival as this cottage was far more superior than we had imagined.

Having booked with my parents in mind who are both disabled, this cottage had ample space with sensible stairs and downstairs facilities for them to use on a daily basis.

The rooms were of a great size for all, including the teenagers who were more than happy.

The bathrooms were great with a walk in shower, suitable for all and a bath with shower above for those who use either.

The cottage was clean and tidy from day one with stunning views and extensive garden for those with a family.

We were not far from the local walks and pub (The Forresters) which I would highly recommend for food!

As a family we found 'Bacons' a comfy place to stay, which was not far driving to the local villages and a great location into the New Forest itself. We also ventured into Salibury and Portsmouth, again not a huge drive away.

If you are not used to cooking on an Aga there were books provided to aid with this, I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience in doing this and it cooked the best baked potatoes I have ever tasted!

The wifi is a little slow but then who goes on holiday to a beautiful setting to spend all their time online...its ample for researching places to visit, of which there was a huge selection of leaflets of local things to see and do, we also left a few for others also.

The local Donkeys and Horses greeted you throughout the day outside the cottage grounds and this was lovely to see...I think we named most of them during our stay!!

The family and I would very much book Bacons to stay again!
