Nicest holiday apartment ever!

  • 5 of 5

First of all the little town - Dolcedo is very cozy and picturesque. There is plenty of investigation for nature lovers as well as nice restaurants and a few little shops. We didn't expect the apartment to look even more beautiful than in the pictures - Italian style interior with oil paintings, stained glass windows and nice furniture. All the necessary sundries inside the apartment were carefully thought of. We enjoyed spending evenings in wonderful garden terrace. The hosts were helpful and nice and the price very reasonable. We will be definitely returning to this place next year.

A hidden gem

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for real Italy then this is the perfect destination - we loved Dolcedo with its bars and restaurants - delicious food and wine. We enjoyed exploring the Ligurian coast - especially the cycle route from St Lorenzo where we hired bikes and enjoyed the coastal scenery. The apartment was comfortable and had everything we needed - we had a warm welcome and help and good advice was always on hand.

Different and Unique

  • 4 of 5

This was our first visit to this area of Italy as a family. We had previously visited the south of France nearby a few years earlier. On that occasion we decided to go inland as we felt that the French Riviera was too busy and overcrowded. Our week’s visit across the border to this part of the Italian Riviera was therefore a refreshing surprise. Our hosts Ralph, Sue, Jill and Jim could not be more helpful, welcoming and friendly ensuring that we should have an enjoyable time. The apartment could be described as quirky but functional and accommodated our family of four for our needs. Its thick stone walls provided lovely shelter from the heat. Temperatures averaged 32 degrees during our stay. The view from the terrazo was as described and you got used to the twice on the hour bell from the nearby church and the local nature combination of crickets and croaking frogs !

We explored the surrounding area. A visit to a Gelatoria is a must but would recommend a Copetta as opposed to a Cornetto as there is a definite knack to eating a melting ice cream quickly. But be prepared to experience some lovely flavours.

Sea bathing at San Lorenzo del Mare was refreshing and safe. We had day trips to Triora and swam in the rock pools at Molini di Triora and a drive to the top of Colle D’Oggia is an absolute must as the view from the top is spectacular. About 40 minutes drive away is Monte Carlo and being able to drive around the Grand Prix circuit in your car even if it was at less than 45 km/h was fun. The boys enjoyed seeing all the really expensive cars parked up outside the Casino

If you are coming to this area – you do need to bring some insect repellant and spray up regularly and the local’s version is the best. If you are bringing your own car be prepared for narrow roads and the occasional tight squeezes. This area is the natural home to the small Italian Fiat Panda and the three wheeled Piaggio.

This area of Italy definitely grows on you. It is different and unique much like the apartment. In some ways more people should visit Liguria and Dolcedo but at the same time perhaps it should be kept for the privileged few in the know.

good location.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for the 1st week of September 2014 and were very pleased with the accommodation and area. Quiet location near a village with good restaurants and a few shops. Only 15mins drive from the coast. Ralph and Sue are great hosts in every sense. Un-overlooked and peaceful house. We had a great stay.

Excellent stay

  • 5 of 5

This apartment provides a taste of authentic Italian village life yet has the advantage of being close to Imperia with it's beaches and beautiful Town. The owners are on hand to help out with anything you may need. It was a real pleasure to stay here. Meals and drinks on the terrace overlooking the hills are a real pleasure. Highly recommended.

From the Owner

The property has charm and romance. The position is perfect, peace and quiet but not too far from the town and the sea. The culture and cuisine is simple and genuine. It is real Italy, not on the toursit trail so you can eat well and enjoy yourself and not spend a fortune.

Activity and Interests

Special interest holidays:

Immediately outside of the house there is a path leading into the hills with walks that rival the beauty of the cinque terra.

The sea and beaches are four kilometres away.

Nice and Genoa airport are nearby. Public transport reaches very close to the house although we provide parking directly outside the apartment.

The historic town of Dolcedo is 10 mins walk away. The provincial capital Imperia is five kilometres away and has stunning architecture including Parasio a medieval settlement set on a hill above the sea. The seafront of Porto Maurizio has sandy beaches and plenty of night-life. There is a wealth of places to visit including Cervo with its annual music festival and the famous resort of San Remo.

Further Details:

The little town of Dolcedo is a 10 minute walk from our door. This pretty, typically Ligurian town, built along the banks of the river Prino, has stone - paved mule tracks, five bridges and water mills, evidence of an olive oil tradition dating back to the 1100's. The local olive groves are among the most famous in the region.

There are markets on Wednesdays and some Sundays selling local and organic produce, antiquities and bric a brac. You will also find an art gallery, shops, bakery, ATM's, a chemist, post office, a number of cafes, pizzerias and restaurants.

The parish church of San Tommaso is a baroque jewel. There is horse riding, mountain biking and whale watching.
