About the property

House in Stronchreggan, Treslaig, Nr. Fort William, Scotland - A Single Storey House, Sleeping 6, With Tranquil And Stunning Views Of Ben Nevis And Loch Linnhe

Dalendrien is a single storey house, sleeping 6, stunningly positioned on its own peninsula on the shoreline of Loch Linnhe. a long sea inlet running from the Isle of Mull inland to the slopes of Ben Nevis, and sits on the quiet north shore of the loch just off the scenic road which runs from Fort William to the remote Ardnamurchan Peninsula. It nestles in three acres of grounds with shoreline and slipway, some 25 miles from Fort William and 8 miles north of the Corran Ferry at Ardgour. The house has deceptively spacious rooms which have magnificent views looking over the loch to the mountains of Glen Coe and Ben Nevis itself. The house is comfortably furnished with loch and mountain views from most rooms. The accommodation consists of 2 double bedrooms, 1 twin bedroom with wash basin, (a cot and extra folding bed for a child are available), spacious living/dining room with open fire, conservatory, and a large kitchen that is very well equipped.

About Nicki Makris

About the owner: I live in the south of England and love visiting my family's "Scottish family home" especially as I now have grandchildren who enjoy the freedom, openness of it and mucking about in the water, as my children did when they were little!

Nicki Makris purchased this house in 1970

Why Nicki Makris chose Fort William

My parents bought the house to escape the pressures of work, have family visiting, enjoy the peace of its remoteness, the scenery and to use a boat on the loch. My grandmother was Scottish so my father felt he was returning to his roots.

What makes this house unique

A warm, cosy family house that offers a vast array of activities and wildlife on the doorstep come rain or shine and snow!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We are just skirting Birmingham on our way down south with hearts growing heavier as the air gets thicker with pollution! Wow what a wonderful week we've had and what a beautiful home you gave on Scotland. Everything was just perfect, you were the perfect host for your wonderful home and we all wanted to thank you. How do you ever want to leave to return to London?!

Tommy had a great time bird watching, walking through the glen behind the house, canoeing, fishing and even stayed up all last night to try and spot the pine Martin but sadly to no avail! Ed loved the Fort William Mountain bike tracks and a day at the Fort William World Cup yesterday. Livvy was delighted to see dolphins in the loch and spot a new highland calf one morning. Jerome is just exhausted trying to keep up with the boys! I had a fabulous week relaxing, reading and watching the view and the children being children! I also loved introducing the children to the game mastermind which I had as a child but haven't seen for years! Not much revision was done but he certainly relaxed which is beneficial too (must remind myself that on Monday!).

Fabulous cottage, well situated for relaxing holiday, well equipped

  • 5 of 5

A great location, remote, peaceful and stunning surroundings. Cottage is well equipped with everything you could possibly need. Car is essential because of location and a must to explore the wonderful surrounding areas. We will definitely be visiting again

Owner's Response: I am so happy you had a lovely time staying in Dalendrien and it would be lovely to have you to stay again - a chance to explore more of the area! I have my favourite places, but I'm still discovering new ones.

Fix an idea in the mind of where to relax, find peace and tranquility, then Dalendrien is that fix.

Instant karma is the feeling you get when you first walk through the door of this amazing home. Yes, it is a home, comfortable, relaxing, peaceful and all of the conveniences anyone could ever need. My family and I could quite easily have spent the two weeks of our holiday there without setting foot out of the home and the land belonging to the property. There are however many great adventures in the nearby areas to take advantage of. Magnificent scenery, historical castles and monuments, wildlife in abundance, walks galore for both the unfit and those with bags of fitness energy. Did we manage to do all that we wanted to, no. So it looks like we shall have to return at some, hopefully sooner, later date.

Beautiful location with a great deal of thought behind giving a high quality to the stay

  • 5 of 5

Despite it being a fair hike around the Loch to the house after Fort William it is fair to say that it is worth the extra 35 mins The silence hits you straight away and it is a great place to relax away the stresses of life. Stunning views down the Loch and across to Ben Nevis combined with the private beach make for a great location.

The house is very well stocked with a great kitchen and plenty of comfy chairs etc. As it is Scotland deploy the midge spray before you get out of the car as they can be a handful at times, however you almost get used to them after a while.

Plenty of things to do but consider Wild West tours and Seaxplorer rib rides out of Glencoe. Also Rockhopper do a fabulous couple of hours on the water in kayaks

Owner's Response: Wow you certainly packed in some of the great activities the area has. As you say midge spray always needs to be packed, at this time of year, it can be total pot luck as to whether they are around or not. I hope the bedroom plug-ins worked. I will have to look into putting midge spray bottles in each bedroom! Thank you for being such lovely guests.

Lovely Property in stunning location

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Dalendrien. From our arrival we felt immediately at home - not necessarily easy when you are in someone else's house. The property was really well appointed, and everything we needed was here. Ironically, despite the fabulous space of the reception rooms, we spent most of our time there in the small sun room, looking out at the Loch and Ben Nevis.

The weather wasn't the best, but this is Scotland, not the Caribbean. it didn't stop us doing anything as there were plenty of lovely drives and local walks. Perfect also for wildlife spotting as there was plenty to see within a mile of the house. We even had a Red Deer Stag in the Garden on our first evening there. Also spotted nearby were the Golden Eagle in the Glen behind Dalendrien and Two Sea Eagles further down the Loch towards Ardgour. we regularly saw Porpoises Just off shore.

We found the local Inn at Ardgour good for pub grub, and further afield, the Crannog Restaurant in Fort William was excellent for Sea food.

All in all, an excellent stay at a place I would happily recommend to anyone.

Andy and Brenda Robinson.

Fantastic house in a great peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

House is in a great location and sit's right on the shore of Loch Linnhe, we took 2 sit on top kayak's with us and we had load's of fun kayaking on the loch. It has large spacious room's with great views. The view from the kitchen window of Ben Nevis is amazing (if you get sunny weather) to enjoy it. The house has lot's of book's and games which we used when the weather was not so good. The house is equipped with everything you need to make your holiday an enjoyable one. There is a car ferry only a short drive away to get you across the loch or you can choose to leave the car and get a little foot ferry to visit Fort William if you wish. We saw lot's of wildlife whilst we were there, my daughter and husband saw a seal in the loch and we were all extremely lucky to see some stag's and deer in the garden . There was no binoculars there when we arrived which I feel there should be, but a quick text to the owner and within a couple of day's she had ordered a pair and they arrived, this made watching the stag's a real treat. The property was not as clean as it should have been upon arrival and with time the house could be amazing. The owner sent us lot's of information before we arrived telling us about the local area and followed this up with a phone call a few day's before our holiday to ask if we had any further questions, which I thought was nice. The customer service from the owner was outstanding. The house was warm and cozy and we cannot wait to visit again next year but for 2 weeks this time and not 1.We would recommend this property to friends and family Thank you for letting us enjoy your home.

Wonderful stay in a beautiful house

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Dalendrien. The pictures don´t lie and give you only an incomplete impression of the special atmosphere at this house. We indeed really saw a deer in the garden one morning.

Dalendrien is a bit away from it all but in our opinion this a plus because if you seek tranquility you can find it here to calm down from everyday hassle.

The hous is very spacious and comfortable and we felt at home at the time we arrived. The kitchen is equipped with everything we needed and has great views to Ben Nevis. The sitting room has very comfortable seating and an open fire and a nice view to the Loch. The master sleeping room is extraordinarly spacious and has also a great view to the Loch. The beds are superb and we slept very well due to the quietness of the location. The en suite bathroom is very luxurious wit a great walk in shower and a bathtub. The other bedrooms are spacious and the shower room is fine too.

Nicki was a great host and provided us with a lot of information about the house and the surronding in advance. If you search something special we could absolute recommend Dalendrien.
