The 19th century house, originally the villages wine merchants has a dedicated TV room and separate entertainment/music room, the farmhouse style kitchen has double doors access to the outside dinning terrace and large garden with a fenced private pool and changing room. The house is located on the edge of the medieval village of St Gengoux le National where a three minute stroll takes you through the cobbled streets to the very heart of the village with its quaint shops cafes and restaurants.

lovely house, lovely location

We stayed here as an extended family group, couples and teenagers. The house and grounds are large enough to find your own space if you need it, but the decking is perfect for evening gatherings. The games room is great for adults and teenagers. The location, within walking distance of the medieval town is perfect for wandering in for a coffee, meal or beer. The pizza restaurant is practically next door, but allow plenty of time for a large order to be prepared and if you want to eat in, book, it's very popular. The owner's father in law lives in the village and is very helpful and has lots of local knowledge. I would definitely recommend this place, we had a great time.

Fabulous house in the centre of a medieval village

We had a really lovely family holiday in this beautiful, traditional and spacious house which had 5 bedrooms spaced out over 3 floors - perfect for our extended family of 9 people (7 adults and 2 young children). The kitchen was so well equipped that we cooked in and barbecued many of the nights. The big table inside the kitchen and the tables outside gave us plenty of options for eating together at mealtimes. The music room provided a quiet area for the adults to go and read and the games room outside proved a big hit with the children - they called it the boys room and retired to it to escape from the adults to play the board games, pool and table football that were provided. The swimming pool was well secured with a lock on the gate and there was a small room off the garage which had loads of inflatable pool toys to play with. The big garden had a hammock at the bottom and we spent a few evenings round there bat spotting! The whole outside area was so peaceful and tranquil - even with our two squealing with delight in the pool! It was just beautiful.

The house is right in the centre of the village with two decent restaurants, tourist office, a few shops and a bar within 5-10 minutes walk and an excellent pizzeria literally a few steps away. The villagers are all so friendly and helpful and really make you feel at home.

There is a well stocked, big supermarket within 10 minutes walk from the house and a 'wine cave' within 5 minutes walk where you could wine taste and purchase delicious and really cheap local wine in a 10 litre barrel and return the barrel to be refilled when needed - much cheaper then the supermarket!! The village market is on a Tuesday morning and although we found the market quite expensive, it sold everything!

The owner of the property lives close by and he was always available any time we needed him. Such a friendly and helpful guy - going out of his way to be welcoming and informative and answering even the daftest of questions for us. When we left we felt as if we had made a good friend and we are very much looking forward to going back!

While we were there we visited abbeys and chateaus in the beautiful villages of Cluny, Tournus, Cormatin and Buxy, all within easy driving distance. We also went to the theme park at Le Creusot which was really enjoyable, the local lake which had pedaloes and the prehistoric caves at Aze. The location of the house and village is great,plenty to see and do and we cant wait to go back!

Lovely house in a fantastic location

A lovely traditional French house over 3 floors. Very private and quiet grounds with views from the back over the fields and hills. We had a minibus and loved the fact we could drive behind the big metal gates and park it under the huge barn/ car port keeping it cool throughout the day. There was an amply stocked supermarket within 5 minutes walk and it was 2 minutes walk into the beautiful medieval village where there are cobbled streets,a few bars and restaurants / cafes along with quite a few local shops ( a lovely chocolate shop !), an antiques / bric a brac shop and a tourist office from which you can get a village map which guides you around points of historic interest - of which there are many. The locals in the village were all very friendly and there is also a great market in the village every Tuesday morning from July - September. I can't stress too strongly how pretty (and historic ) this village is. There is also a "Caveau" - a local wine tasting / purchasing centre within 5 minutes walk of the house. The house itself was very comfortable and had everything we needed for our fortnight. The English owner living in the village was also really helpful, easily contactable and was quick to provide some extra fans when the temperatures were unusually hot and hit the high 30's. We loved the pool and used it a lot - there were plenty of sunbeds for us all and also pool towels which was great. We used to play petanque in the evenings in an area between the house and the pool and it became quite competitive ! There is also a BBQ there which was very useful in the hot evenings. Loads to see nearby - the beautiful towns of Cluny (20mins) & Tournus (30mins) are high recommended. We went kayaking down the Saone (30mins) which was very peaceful and also took a 2 hour boat ride from Chalon sur Saone (30 mins) down the Saone. The nearby (15mins) Chateau de Cormatin is also stunning. A great house in a brilliant location - would definitely recommend this to all ages - our family group ranged from 21 - 79 yrs old.

30 minutes drive to the historical town of Cluny with it famous equestrian centre with Taize nearby
