About Katharine King & Paul

We're a family of four. We live in Guildford and work in London but came to Weymouth for a holiday when our little one was 3 months old. We enjoyed it so much that a year later we came back and discovered rugged Portland which we totally fell in love with. We'd always associated escapes to the coast with quaint, rustic cottages but with a small child in tow we found the comfort, luxury and cleanliness of a new build property with all the mod-cons a perfect partner to country days out cliff-walking, sightseeing and beach playing! The Olympic development was really tasteful and brilliantly located, so we invested in a property in October 2012 which we now let for holiday rentals in between our own weekend escapes.

What makes this house unique

When we first travelled down from London, we find Dorset such a good alternative to Devon & Cornwall as it's only 2.5hrs drive and yet still transports you to a calmer pace of life and surroundings just as beautiful! We love driving across the causeway to the house with the Jurassic coast behind us, the dramatic cliffs of Portland ahead of us, the kite-surfers to the left of us and the steep bank of Chesil beach to the right. It's pretty spectacular!

Great house, very child friendly, for a relaxing holiday

We really enjoyed a family get together with 2 toddlers , the house is well presented and equipped with a lovely family feel. Real home from home atmosphere. The children enjoyed the different toys , the adults able to relax in a child friendly house,. There is plenty to do for all ages around Portland and the surrounding area.. beaches walking cycling water sports children’s activities, lovely villages and plenty of places to eat out..

Impeccable presented property with a homely feel

The house was beautifully presented, clean and tidy and excellent communication from the owners overall. We felt like it was a home from home with the open plan kitchen downstairs and the lovely garden for the kids to play outside. This property is so well equipped for young families with toys and books available for the kids during the stay and high chairs, potty training equipment and stair gates if you needed them. With so much to do in the surrounding areas this was a perfect location to be in. We will definitely visit again. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable. Best wishes the Duemke’s

A real find!

I stayed here as part of a group of girls enjoying a child free weekend. The property is part of the 2012 Olympic Village, right next to the UK Sailing Academy - it even has an official certificate to show which team stayed there. We loved the mix of modern, spacious layout but genuinely homely feel - the weather wasn't brilliant during our stay and we were all just as happy curled up on the comfortable sofas watching DVDs as we were getting out and about exploring. A great base from which to explore the delights of Portland, Weymouth and the Jurassic Coast - or just a home from home to relax in. Thoroughly recommend, I will be back!

Really cool, spacious, well-equipped house.

Really enjoyed our stay in this house. It was really good for our group of three couples, two with a young child. It's perfect for self-catering because there's loads of stuff to use in the kitchen. If we'd had better weather I'm sure we'd have had some walks on the beach too, which is only a few minutes from the front door.

Great Location, Modern and full of everything you could need

We had a wonderful stay here during October half term (4 adults & 2 children). The owners provide lots of information about local attractions, restaurants and pubs. Communication with the owner was excellent and they were very responsive. I would definitely recommend a stay here. I would have given a 5 star review and my only reason for not doing so was that we had a small issue with the hot water whilst we were there that is out of the control of the owner. However Katharine responded very quickly and did her upmost to resolve the issue for us. It wouldn't stop us from returning though.

A real home from home

Special interest holidays:

Having been built to house the sailing teams for the 2012 Olympics, it is on the doorstep of world class watersport facilities, from sailing to windsurfing. Sitting on the Jurassic coast, the house is the perfect base for both dramatic and leisurely trekking or cycling.


3 minutes walk to reknowned Chesil Beach - miles of steep, smooth pebbles. Great fun for watching the waves crash on the shore or throwing stones into the sea. For the more sedate, a walkway runs across the back of the beach for an easy promenade. A cafe /sanctuary also provides a superb bird spotting hangout. 10 minute drive to a huge sandy beach at Weymouth where the water is very safe for swimming. Often donkeys & fairground rides on the beach but large enough to find a quiet spot too!


45 miles to Bournemouth International Airport (1hr 15 mins drive)

64 miles to Exeter (1hr 34 min drive)

77 miles to Bristol airport (2hr 10 min drive)

126 miles to Heathrow airport (2hr 40 min drive)

Ferries and trains to Weymouth 10 minute drive away. Regular bus services between Weymouth & Portland.

Car useful but not essential. Cafes and some shops walking distance and excellent bus services.


Olympic sailing centre: under 1 mile (sailing, windsurfing, kite surfing, cafe/restaurant). Short walk to leisure centre

Portland Bill: 2 miles (Famous lighthouse, dramatic coast, delicious cream tea)

Weymouth: 4 miles (beach, restaurants, old harbour, curiosity lanes, sealife centre, major high-street shops, cinema)

Abbotsbury: 12 miles (swannery, children's farm)

Lulworth Cove/Durdledor - 24 miles (cliff walking, pretty harbour village)

Dorchester: 15 miles (antique shopping)

Further Details:

Supermarkets: walkable to local Spa (but steep climb!). Newly built large Tesco on centre of Portland with very easy parking (or you can get Tesco delivery online). Asda superstore in Weymouth.

Other points of interest very close by: Portland Castle, Quarry Sculpture Park, Jailhouse cafe with the most spectacular views
