Romantic Holidays For Two In 17th Century Cotswold Cottage

Overview

Property

Updated: 02-Dec-2016
Cottage in Willersey, Nr. Broadway, The Cotswolds, Gloucestershire, England - Quiet Village Location, 1 Minute's Walk From Two Pubs And Village Shop; Easy Access To Broadway

Originally the private wing of a larger farmhouse, this 17th century cottage retains many original features. Recent refurbishment enhances the charms of this beautiful building, to make it a cosy retreat at all times of the year. The cottage provides accommodation for two people with a double bedroom, sitting room, conservatory/dining area, kitchen and bathroom with bath and hand-held shower. Small outside seating area. Electricity, bedlinen and towels are included and guests may bring one small dog by prior arrangement. Parking available in Church Street or at the Village Hall. Willersey, with its pretty village pond and historic church, has two pubs which serve food, a village shop, and is less than two miles from the village of Broadway with its galleries, restaurants, and golf course. It is also within easy reach of many local places of interest as well as Cheltenham race course, and Stratford-on-Avon's theatres. The nearby Cotswold Way makes the cottage ideal for walkers too.

For many reasons, both legal and practical, the cottage is not available for lets longer than 30 days.

About the Owner

I bought the cottage in September 2012 as part of a lifelong interest in England’s history and architectural heritage. I have been involved in promoting the Vale of Evesham’s history in other ways previously and the cottage gives me a new opportunity to share the heritage of the area in another, more intimate, way. I did a little work to the cottage to make it cosy but think it important to retain as much of the old fabric as possible, so that the cottage is still allowed to tell its story. This is the only cottage I let, so it isn’t part of a large concern. I live in the next village, (although I now work in Birmingham), and have a strong connection to the locality. My aim is to provide a comfortable and inspiring place from which to explore the Vale and the North Cotswolds.

Can't imagine wanting something other or more

Sometime a very good week's stay, begins well ahead with delightful help and input from a kind and knowledgeable proprietor who continues such largesse throughout and even after a holiday. Such is the case for us with Ninds Farm Cottage in Willersey, Broadway so delightfully peaceful and beautifully situated for access to all things Cotswolds.

With two delightful pubs within easy but unobtrusive walking distance, each offering distinctive ambiance excellent fare and good company, a cottage of much historic character and period appointments to balance any contemporary and beautifully well stocked need, we'd only just begun.

Our separate peaceful glass enclosed dining area was perfect for any meal. A second loo located on the ground floor, stone fireplace, near medieval beams throughout, total spotlessness throughout, amazingly comfortable upstairs bedroom and lots of generous little surprises kept reminding us of what a brilliant start we'd gotten of to on our first of ten British, mostly self cater, retirement party weeks.

We remember saying to ourselves and each other something to the effect that if every other self cater we'd picked to follow even remotely approached the value and quality of this one, we'd be extremely fortunate.

I'll recommend the choice of Kerry Moreton's Ninds Farm Cottage on one condition and with one major caveat: Please don't even think to interfere with our own choice of weeks should we return, whether sooner than later.

I've thus far visited the UK six times extensively (depending on one's perception of such things) over a moderately lengthy or somewhat shortening lifetime and never done better than choosing this delightful option and owner.

What a find

  • 5 of 5

This delightful, ancient cottage was just amazing, a bottle of wine, pint of milk, and a warm cottage awaits your arrival. It is set in a beautiful sleepy village, so quiet, apart from the odd campanologist practicing! The village is home to 2 lovely pubs and great food. Walks on your doorstep. Broadway Tower worth a visit, its up a steep hill but doable. Amazing holiday and I will definitely be back.

best value cotswold cottage

  • 5 of 5

You won't believe the great value, 2 nights in Cotswolds cottage for less than one night's b&b in nearby towns and three times the space and everything you need for a log fire (sadly too warm when we were there), lovely touches like bottle of wine and bottle of radox!! House is historic, wonderful comfy bed and good linen, delightful, near a good food pub, and another pub for good measure and a duck pond, walkable into Broadway for more shops, pubs and restaurants, on lots of bus routes. Friendly locals, village shop. Great location for doing "the Cotswolds", totally recommended.

Fantastic Discovery

  • 5 of 5

Found by my partner and enjoyed by us both.... This is a wonderful place to escape from it all, quiet, cosy, comfy and in a lovely part of the world undiscovered until last weekend.

The cottage makes you feel comfortable the moment you walk through the door and Kerry (owner) provides the little touches on your arrival and with her communication adding to a little piece of magic...in the Cotswolds. The walks are glorious (apart from a run in with a herd of cows), the air clean and the open fire with fuel provided was a perfect end to the perfect day, and unfortunately our long weekend passed too quickly.

Writing a review (unbelievably the first) I fear my praise will wrestle the ease of booking into a fight for a repeat date , but the simple truth is the cottage is amazing... It sets you up for a fabulous time....helps you relax at day's end and eases you without fuss into the next... My one small warning, beware the upstairs doorways if you are sleepy and tall...

Thank you Ninds Farm Cottage for all that you gave...

Location

From the Owner

I bought a property in Willersey because I believe in being hands-on with the property and being part of the local economy. I live less than two miles away and so could walk there if necessary. Willersey is a lovely village too without being over-commercialised, although that sort of thing isn't too far away.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Barpub : The Bell at 100 Metres Nearest Ferry : Hampton, Evesham at 7 Miles Nearest Golf : Broadway at 2 Miles Nearest Train : Evesham at 6 Miles Nearest Restaurant : The Bell at 100 Metres Car: recommended

Travel:

The cottage is approximately 40 miles from Birmingham airport.

The use of a car would be the most convenient way to explore the area, but Willersey has a good bus service for access to Evesham, Broadway, Cheltenham and Stratford-on-Avon.

www.escapetothecotswolds.org.uk is a good starting point for bus timetables.

Distances:

Broadway 1.5 miles

Cheltenham Race Course 16 miles

Stratford-on-Avon 13 miles

Evesham 6 miles

Further Details:

The surrounding area provides many opportunities for all types of interests. Historical sites nearby include Broadway Tower, Hailes Abbey, Sudeley Castle, Evesham's Almonry Museum and historic battlefield, the Shakespeare houses of Stratford-on-Avon. Hidcote Manor Garden is also very close. Local Cotswold villages, both small and large, provide a wealth of vernacular and ecclesiastical architecture. Willersey has its own village shop but larger supermarkets are close-by in Broadway and Evesham. Cheltenham and Stratford are larger towns with extensive retail opportunities. The cottage is an ideal location for those going to Cheltenham races, Broadway Golf Club, walking on the Cotswold way or exploring the many other footpaths.

Notable restaurants are very near and include Russell's and the Lygon Arms, both in Broadway, Wesley House in Winchcombe and Buckland Manor.

Facilities

From the Owner

The cottage is small and warm, and quirky. It is convenient for walkers being close to numerous footpaths which lead onto the North Cotswold Hills. There are two pubs in the village which serve food which you have to walk to, the furthest one would take you all of 90 seconds to reach. If you want to go further afield for something to eat and don't mind a couple of miles there and back, Broadway is just on the doorstep. It's quiet but not so remote you think the world has ended. Above all it's romantic. The perfect place for two lovers and their dog...
