About Adrian Greevy

We are the typical couple that for years have considered living in the sun. We finally did something about it in 2011 when the opportunity to take six months off work in 2012 came about. We searched for the right location and although we live in rural Somerset we opted for a town, much to our own surprise. Stayed from July to January and wanted something special and to see the heights of summer and depths of winter. Needless to say we were not disappointed and found the people of Tavira to be nothing but helpful and friendly. We now are able to share part of that experience with others .

Adrian Greevy purchased this apartment in 2011

Why Adrian Greevy chose Tavira region

We bought the apartment after two years of searching starting in the west of the Algarve and covering all the way to the Spanish border. For us Tavira has the best mix of Portugal and holiday destination. with all the beaches, golf, countryside and amenities close to hand yet without the in your face side of tourism. Tavira is an old colonial type town but with a modern shopping plaza, a multi screen cinema showing all the latest releases in English and is part of the Ria Formosa Natural park with sandy barrier islands and lagoons. It has something for everyone from bird watching to kite surfing.

What makes this apartment unique

The property is in a small block of eight new build apartments built in a colonial style on the site of an old smoke house. It is in a quiet location with "normal" Portuguese houses and families in the same lane. The block itself is in the centre of the town near the " bishops square" where all the best alfresco eating is found in it and the surrounding cobblestones lanes. The roman bridge is about 3/400 metres away crossing the river gilao. If eating in is your thing then there are a number of supermarkets, an English butcher and numerous bakeries within strolling distance plus the large fish and vegetable market where all the freshest produce can be found.the bicycles make it very easy to explore the surrounding area as there is a coastal cycle track that will take you to other villages.

Lovely Central Apartment in Tavira

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was very clean with all you would need and more inside. Everything was thought of. It was in a great location in Tavira - easy to get to lots of eating establishments, shops, train and bus stations but the street itself was very quiet. We would have no hesitation in recommending the apartment to anyone

Excellent!

  • 5 of 5

I would highly recommend- location, facilities, comfort, cleanliness, style, etc etc. Close to all the restaurants but very quiet.

Adrian and Suzanne gave a very personal touch with the prompt friendly emails before our stay and even meeting us off the train on arrival and giving us a small tour of the town before then showing us how everything worked in the apartment. Perfect customer service as previous reviews have said!

Excellent Tavira stay would highly recommend

  • 5 of 5

Recently returned relaxed and rejuvenated thanks to Adrian and Suzanne's hospitality, organisation and support. Taxi from Faro arranged for us at half the cost we'd previously paid and Adrian was there to meet us, handover keys etc. Apartment is new with good spec fittings and the small courtyard gives character. About 5 mins walk from Bishop's Square with plenty of restaurants and bars to try and yet no noise in the bedroom and with a large and comfortable mattress we slept really well. We know Tavira well and enjoy the June Popular Saints free celebrations, dancing and fireworks. Adrian and Suzanne provided a mid stay clean and linen/towel change and at the end of our 10-night stay Suzanne even gave us a lift to the station for an onward stay in Faro itself. As former John Lewis 'partners' the customer services speaks for itself and is evident from booking to departure. We would highly recommend their apartment for any couple/single person visiting Tavira

Perfect location with everything we needed

  • 5 of 5

When we choose holiday accommodations we have 3 main criteria: Easy walking distance to bars and restaurants, free and available parking for hire car and outdoor space. We chose this apartment based on those 3 criteria and it delivered in spades. Just a hop and a skip from the main restaurants, a handy little courtyard and easy parking both just outside the apartment or alternatively in the underground garage. The helpfulness and pleasantness of the owners just added to a lovely 2 weeks away....great weather too!

Right in the heart of town.

  • 3 of 5

We had meet the owners before we stayed in this apartment and have to say tthey are both very friendly, the apartment has all you need if you stay in and cook. After a bit of a problem with the internet/TV this was sorted after a few days and all worked well after this had a new server. The apartment is modern but we found it to be very dark with lots of dark wood and dark flooring, we stayed for a month and could be in the small square with all the restaurants and cafes in minutes. We found the bed to be very low and hard for us, it also it has a wood cassing round it that we kept bashing our legs on, not very good. Towels and bedding were changed once a week, we had to pay for the electric at the end of our stay, we have never had to do this before and think it was a bit unfair for the amount we used, 4.50 euros a week on top of our price for the apartment had we only stayed a week they do not charge. The are two bikes in the garage if you want to use them, we never did. To finish this is a nice aparment to stay in perhaps not for long stay as we did but perhaps a week, the small court yard is very nice to sit in on a nice day.

Owner's Response: We are pleased that you conclude it is a nice apartment and that the owners are friendly. Your stay during what has been the wettest and cloudiest month in years was bound to take the edge off your holiday as you told us before you left, and on the other occasions we visited to take the laundry to aid you so you wouldn't have to worry about drying and ironing. This probably also impacted on your reference to the apartment being dark, much of which would have changed by turning on lights. Your reference to electricity charges is baffling as it was agreed in person when you visited last year for an inspection prior to booking. Our winter rate for the let was half the advertised price but would include the cost of electricity used to offset this, no charge for gas for heating water or cooking and no charge for water. To then expect to not pay because you had been economical is nonsense, would you have been as economical if no charges were forthcoming, we will never know.. Previously we have only had comments on the comfort of the mattresses and use them in four separate properties,we apologies that they didn't suit your needs. We were pleased that you found the television ( with the availability of movies and box sets) so useful during your stay particularly with the inclement weather keeping you housebound for such long periods, and considering that when you booked it wasn't an available feature and we added it specifically for you so you wouldn't need to bring your DVD collection. Regards Adrian and Suzanne

Excellent. Nothing left undone.

  • 5 of 5

Very clean, new property, very comfortable with all the things we needed to settle in for a few days. Enjoyed making espresso in the am, taking the bikes out for a spin, used the beach basket and towels, and having a nosh in the pm while enjoying the beautiful private patio. Wonderful hosts who were understanding when we arrived later then planned (wrong train from Faro) AND when we couldn't find our way home the first night. Oh my... Lol. Overall, you would be silly NOT to book this beautiful place if you have the chance! Thanks Suzanne and Adrian!

Location

Car: not necessary

Coast/Beach:

The blue flag beach is approximately 1.5 Kms away and can be reached from two ferry points the closest being about 400metres away from the apartment on the river Gilao, the second from Quatro Aguas on the lagoon edge. it boasts miles of fine white sand with beach bars and restaurants. you can hire beach beds with parasols or take the ones from the apartment. Kite surfing lessons are available in Cabanas de Tavira on the beach.

Travel:

Faro airport is approximately 40kms away, with taxi transfers from £10 per person.Travel time is about 35 minutes. Car hire is not essential but will take you off the beaten path or the mountains and inland towns.

Tavira also has two train stations and the trains are reasonably priced going to all the coastal towns or further afield to Lisbon or Seville. The coach station does trips to Seville. The apartment also benefits from two bicycles for guest use.

Distances:

The apartment is found in the centre of Tavira. The Spanish border is approximately 30kms with Seville about an hour and a half away by car. The villages of Cabanas and Santa Luzia are about 5 and 3kms respectively and can be reached by the cycle paths easily and quickly or walked at cooler times of the day.

Estoi with its Roman ruins is about thirty minutes drive.

Further Details:

Tavira has everything to offer the modern traveller from lazy beaches to he adrenaline of kitesurfing. There is a sailing school at Quatro Aguas, a riding stables near Mato Santo Spirito,a municipal pool with four pools ( closed in August) a modern shopping mall with multi screen cinema ( films in English with Portuguese subtitles). The town itself is colonial and is still a working town with fishermen bringing in the catch and selling it in the fish market.

The Roman bridge draws many travellers as does the old castle or the camera obscura. The area near the roman bridge is vibrant with cafes and restaurants serving Portuguese and international cuisine, both indoors and out.

In the summer months the main square offers free live concerts and entertainment of a more traditional nature with folklore and traditional bands, set in an amphitheatre of seating.

Tavira is well served for eating in with a number of supermarkets, bakeries and minimakets, butchers (including and English one) and wine shops.there is a second hand bookshop selling English books and a DVD shop renting to the holiday market.

The Ria Formosa is a haven for wading birds and a handy stopping off point for migratory birds.
