About Vanessa Elliott

We purchased the farmhouse adjacent to Ambers Barn in 2013, having moved to Norfolk in 2011. My husband, Tony, and I have 3 children, 2 daughters (17 & 15) and a son (12), 2 dogs, 2 cats and a horse. I'm at home most of the time and very happy to help with any queries.

Why Vanessa Elliott chose Norfolk & The Broads

Knowing little about Norfolk before moving here, we knew that the house we were looking to buy had to be in the right location. We love it here as we really feel we are in deep countryside, with lovely walks for the dogs, yet Norwich, with all it has to offer, is only 15 minutes away. We realised as soon as we moved to Norfolk that it's beaches are amongst the most beautiful in the country and we were keen to be able to access them easily.

Warm welcome in rural Norfolk

  • 5 of 5

Our stay in Amber's barn was comfortable and warm - despite the worst of the winter's weather! From our first contact with Vanessa to the end of our stay everything was well organised and convenient. The barn itself is spacious and easy to stay in, with everything clean and comfortable. There was a very welcome array of goodies in the kitchen to get us started, and all the appliances were easy to understand and work. There are plenty of extra instructions if you need them - which we didn't as the barn was warm and cosy from the first minute we arrived.

As we were staying in the barn for a family wedding we needed to arrange a dog sitter and Vanessa was very helpful - putting us in touch with Carla who was fantastic. Bob and Astra were very well looked after and we were able to enjoy our daughter's wedding to the full, knowing that they were in such good hands. The enclosed courtyard was an absolute boon for us, with a nervous dog and an elderly labrador - though there is plenty of walking straight out of the door.

The barn was a great setting for our family get-together and our daughter looked lovely coming down the staircase in her wedding dress.

We can also recommend the Norfolk Lurcher Inn just about a mile away in Colton, and Spice Fusion in Dereham. The barn's location is convenient for Norwich, Dereham and rural Norfolk yet it is very quiet for a good night's sleep. This is a property we would stay in again without hesitation.

fantastic barn conversion

  • 5 of 5

We wanted few days just to chill out and relax and Ambers Barn was perfect. The barn was roomy comfortable and relaxing. It is ideal for a base to visit the coast and other attractions in the area or just to be in a peaceful country location and let the world go by. I would recommend this property and come again.

<<< Delightful & relaxing stay >>>

  • 5 of 5

We had a couple of rainy days upon arrival, with two hairy dogs the facilities at Ambers Barn coped with the drying out process with ease.

The spacious facilities are just great, a very relaxed environment, reflecting our host Vanessa, who could not have been more helpful.

With all that this area has to offer, plus such stunning beaches as Holkham and Winterton on Sea where we visited, it has an excellent location that we will most certainly come back to enjoy again!

I've just spent 3 days at Ambers Barn. It was a last minute booking - a weekend away. The night before we left my husband read the reviews of the Barn and was a little concerned! He now agrees that he shouldn't have been. The Barn is perfect. The issues with curtains all seem to have been resolved with a clever blind over a skylight and pretty curtains on the windows. The beds were extremely comfortable and we slept & slept. Just what the doctor ordered. Vanessa, the owner, couldn't have been more helpful and willing to please and had even stocked up the kitchen for a full English breakfast. We had a fantastic time relaxing (reading in the sunny, totally private garden) and spent a lovely afternoon in Norwich - well worth a longer visit. I'm already planning our next stay there.

Lovely barn

  • 3 of 5

We stayed for 3 nights/days at Ambers Barn, the barn itself has been renovated to a very high standard, spotlessly clean with everything needed for a great base (apart from a hair dryer) in a lovely quiet location, we recently were very spoilt with a beautiful Cart Shed also in Norfolk which in comparison was much smaller but so cosy & homely with a gorgeous log burner!! Something I felt Ambers Barn could really do with! As I said a lovely barn but I felt it could be a tad more welcoming. My only real negative point which I feel has to be made is that there are absolutely no curtains, my daughters shared the downstairs room which has a window & a sky light right above one of the beds with no blind or curtain, I know it's probably the Country way but we went for a rest & to have the children & dog wide awake at 6AM was not ideal, it was such a shame as it could have spoilt our time there, I however refused to let it so ended up improvising by stacking our luggage & blankets up against a chair to cover the window in the girls bedroom but couldn't do anything about the sky light. So to sum up...I would absolutely recommend a stay here but would only consider returning myself if those two things were changed (a lovely fire & curtains!!!) if neither of those things bother you then go stay there as I am sure that you won't be disappointed. Oh also the Horsey people we met were very pleasant & Dexter the Lab was just adorable, our Puppy Lab loved him :-)

Business was a pleasure !

  • 5 of 5

As a business man spending around 100 nights per year away in hotels, I was initially frustrated to find that my preferred venue was not available for the 2 nights I needed to spend in Norfolk. A friend of mine had recommended Amber's Barn and I was able to book up with Vanessa (the owner who is on-site) just two days before my trip. A colleague and I made the most of the change of scene. Compared to the usual hotel accommodation, we were delighted to find such luxury in such a peaceful, rural setting. Rather than a small room overlooking a car park, we had an entire barn conversion with top comfort in the middle of the Norfolk countryside. It was even a pleasure to be able to make a good breakfast with the items provided in the fridge and that made a welcome change from the buffet (and usually horribly over-priced) breakfast on offer in most hotels. Access to Norwich was easy and I expect to use Amber Barn again for a business trip and may even try to add on an extra night or two to explore the area. We found a couple of local pubs serving good food and the personal homely touch was a really refereshing change.
