About Vanessa Elliott

We purchased the farmhouse adjacent to Ambers Barn in 2013, having moved to Norfolk in 2011. I'm at home most of the time and very happy to help with any queries.

Why Vanessa Elliott chose Norwich

Knowing little about Norfolk before moving here, we knew that the house we were looking to buy had to be in the right location. We love it here as we really feel we are in deep countryside, with lovely walks for the dogs, yet Norwich, with all it has to offer, is only 15 minutes away. We realised as soon as we moved to Norfolk that it's beaches are amongst the most beautiful in the country and we were keen to be able to access them easily.

The cottage was very comfortable and in a great location. Would definitely stay there again if we wanted to be in the area.

A superb place, beautifully clean with everything you need. (Even tea and milk for when you arrive which we were very grateful for). Can’t speak highly enough about this lovely barn.

Spacious accomodation next to a handy farm shop

  • 5 of 5

Ambers barn is spacious, comfortable and well equipped. It is approached by a short single track road and yet only 5 minutes from the main A47 giving easy access to routes around Norfolk. The enclosed patio was convenient for letting the dog have some secure outside space as the paths and roads around the barn were a bit too wet and muddy for walking (he's a long haired white dog!). Unfortunately in a rather wet March we weren't able to make use of the sun loungers!

Around the corner from the barn are stables and we were able to watch the horses each day as they passed by our front windows on their way to the fields opposite every morning and back again in the evening. Opposite the stables is the Goat Shed shop selling dairy produce and some toiletries. That was handy for the eggs we needed but forgot to take with us.

Vanessa was a lovely host and even supplied a basic welcome pack of tea, coffee, milk etc. and the kitchen was equipped with all the cleaning products we needed.

All in all a very enjoyable stay. Highly recommended

Warm welcome in rural Norfolk

  • 5 of 5

Our stay in Amber's barn was comfortable and warm - despite the worst of the winter's weather! From our first contact with Vanessa to the end of our stay everything was well organised and convenient. The barn itself is spacious and easy to stay in, with everything clean and comfortable. There was a very welcome array of goodies in the kitchen to get us started, and all the appliances were easy to understand and work. There are plenty of extra instructions if you need them - which we didn't as the barn was warm and cosy from the first minute we arrived.

As we were staying in the barn for a family wedding we needed to arrange a dog sitter and Vanessa was very helpful - putting us in touch with Carla who was fantastic. Bob and Astra were very well looked after and we were able to enjoy our daughter's wedding to the full, knowing that they were in such good hands. The enclosed courtyard was an absolute boon for us, with a nervous dog and an elderly labrador - though there is plenty of walking straight out of the door.

The barn was a great setting for our family get-together and our daughter looked lovely coming down the staircase in her wedding dress.

We can also recommend the Norfolk Lurcher Inn just about a mile away in Colton, and Spice Fusion in Dereham. The barn's location is convenient for Norwich, Dereham and rural Norfolk yet it is very quiet for a good night's sleep. This is a property we would stay in again without hesitation.
