Carr Hill House is a luxury detached rental home which has been with the family for fifteen years, initially as a 5 star Bed and Breakfast. The property can sleep 10 adults and 2 children, with an additional double sofa bed and single sofa bed bringing the total to 15 persons. The house is set in a large lawned garden overlooking the North York Moors with a steam train running through the valley below. A 5 minute drive to the coast and into the North York Moors national park. Our location means that walking and cycling trails are on the door step. Activities such as golf, sailing, horse riding and a ride on the steam train into the national park are minutes away.

Golden Wedding celebration.

This property was fantastic for getting all our family together to celebrate. Our son and family came over from the USA and the rest of us from other parts of Yorkshire. As soon as we arrived we all agreed it was a 'great find'. The rooms were all larger than we expected from the plan and the garden was a bonus for the children. We found it exceptionally clean with everything we could wish for. Would highly recommend.

Fantastic home, great location, we had a wonderful

Our party of ten adults and two children were all very impressed with this property. The house is beautifully decorated and equipped, with many little finishing touches, a real home from home. We would all love to go back!

Gang of ten get "steamed up" in North Yorkshire

The ten of us (five mature couples) converged at Carr Hill House and were extremely pleased at what we found. This exceptionally spacious, well kept and beautifully clean house gave us everything we needed for a very comfortable week's stay. One of our prime requirements is always a generous supply of bathrooms/wcs and this property certainly scored well on that front. The situation at the top of the lane gave wonderful views and the peace and quiet was only interrupted by the occasional train whistle. We had five cars between us and there was plenty of parking on the drive. The walkers and golfers amongst us were spoilt for choice. The highlight for a few of our "boys" was the sighting at NYMR Grosmont station of Sir Nigel Gresley under steam just before he goes away for a three year rest in the workshop. The short drive from the house to the new Park and Ride for Whitby meant that we didn't have to worry about trying to take our cars into the town. We ate at The Magpie twice, very good, fairly pricey, but book well in advance if you are a large party like us. Would definitely recommend this property to those who are looking to book large self-catering accommodation in a beautiful setting with good access to all local amenities.

What a beauty

We were a group of 10 gathering for a reunion. We were delighted with the accommodation, which was not only very comfortable but provided everything we needed for our stay. It is also in an ideal position for the surrounding sights - coast and moor. A great four days and many thanks to the owners.

Friends Reunion

I love it, Whitby and North Yorkshire are outstanding. The house is perfectly situated with stunning views. Whitby is close by which you can walk to, to enjoy countryside and coast, or drive if you want to get there sooner. We had organised a friends reunion, there were 12 staying at the house, it was the perfect venue, so relaxing a great way to rekindle friendship's. Now I am quite picky when I stay at hotels etc and like to find faults. So where to start with Carr Hill House, let me think. No cant think of anything. The house is well kept throughout and served all our needs, the host Libby is terrific, and I hope is a new friend we will all revisit on an annual basis. Great place can't recommend it enough x

CarrHillHouse was previously run as a 5 star bed and breakfast by my parents who have recently retired. Owning this luxury house has allowed us to reconnect with the beautiful town of Whitby and the surrounding North Yorkshire Moors.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

Whitby beach is 3.1 miles.

Sandsend beach and village 4 miles - long sandy beaches were the river flows into the sea providing a safe and popular play area with our younger visitors.

Quaint fishing village of Robin Hoods Bay is 7.7 miles - popular location for fossil hunters!

Other beach locations include:- Coastal resort of Scarborough.

Travel:

The use of a car would make life easier in our location. However there is a bus and train service which runs from the bottom of the hill into Whitby and the neighbouring villages and towns.

The nearest airport is Leeds/Bradford approx 1.5 hours away.

Distances:

The nearest shop is in Sleights village which is 0.3 miles. Where you will also find Spar, a butchers, a bakery, the post office and a fish and chip shop.

The village of Ruswarp is 1.8 miles away along the river Esk where you will find Jacksons the butchers and The Bridge Pub.

Whitby Town is 3 miles away where you find local gift shops all the way to larger supermarkets. Lidl - 1.5 miles, Co-op -3 miles, Sainsburys - 4 miles.
