About Suzanne Candy

Hi we are George and Suzanne Candy. We have lived at Olivemead Farm where Swallow Cottage is situated for over 20 years. It is such a wonderful place to live, with easy access to some incredible properties, cities and attractions.

Why Suzanne Candy chose Wiltshire

Swallow Cottage is at Olivemead Farm and is the perfect base for your holiday with Bath, Bristol, Oxford, Salisbury and the Cotswolds all within a one hour drive and London about one and half hours away.

There is plenty to see and do no matter what the weather, from the Georgian City of Bath with its famous Roman Baths, architecture and Christmas Market, to a visit to Swindon with its Great Western Outlet Shopping Centre and Railway museum, STEAM.

Other places of interest include the amazing World Heritage sites of Avebury, Silbury Hill and Stonehenge, stately homes and National Trust properties such as Stourhead, Great Chalfied Manor and Dyrum Park and picturesque villages such as Lacock and Castle Combe.

For children there is Lydiard Park with its lovely, walk and free children’s play area, Bowood with its adventure playground and Longleat with its safari park and other attractions including its annual Festival of Light.

Spend time visiting the sets of popular film and TV productions such as War Horse, Poldark and Harry potter to name just a few.

There are many National Trust properties such as Stourhead, Great Chalfield Manor and Dhyrum Park

For those with an interest in gardens there is Westonbirt Arboretum with the amazing STIHL Treetop Walkway and the famous Abbey Gardens in Malmesbury

For people looking for activities there are numerous golf courses, a local riding school, jet skiing at the Cotswold Water Park or Go Karting at Hullavington. There are several swimming pools in the area, including the Oasis in Swindon complete with waves and domebusters.

For evening entertainment why not go to the multiplex cinema, or ten pin bowling or even ice skating at the Link Centre. Alternatively, if you just want a quiet meal out, you will be spoilt for choice at the numerous nearby pubs, or pop into Malmesbury, the oldest borough in England, with its selection of restaurants and public houses.

What makes this cottage unique

The farm is an organic farm with a suckler herd and a small flock of sheep. Our working farm dog Doug loves the company of our guests and is loving and kind.

Lovely stay

  • 4 of 5

We spent a week in this comfortable cottage. The house is very nice decorated in blue, white and wood. Outside, you can hear the near motorway 4. Strategic location for visits to Bristol, Oxford, Cardiff, London, Stonehenge. Our children enjoyed the big garden and the 4 lovely dogs Doug, Dexter, Willow and Maisie. The kitchen was equipped very well. For me, mother of four, the washing machine was important. There are a great collection of books, DVD`s and CD`s. The hosts were very nice and made us feel welcome. Thank you, Suzanne and George!

Lovely Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful holiday at Swallow cottage. It is very well equipped and comfortable with lots of unexpected extras, like fresh fruit, bread, milk and butter, plus a supply of kitchen items such as washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets etc.

The setting is charming on a working farm, however, it's very safe for youngsters. The two farm dogs are a delight, really friendly and good with children, they added to our pleasure.

We celebrated a birthday and had lots of visitors over for the day - the extremely large and pretty garden was just perfect for such an event. Our very young grandchildren also stayed with us for several days and really enjoyed the garden and play equipment.

A car is a must to get to the shops.

It is close to the motorway and if the wind is in the wrong direction, you can hear the traffic noise - we didn't find it a problem though.

The owners kept a very low profile and we hardly knew they were there.
