Top Traveller Review

About the Owner

Our own home, L'Ancienne Pharmacie, where we now offer chambres d'hotes, is a few doors down the road towards the centre of the village. We bought it in 2006 as a holiday home for us and our children and grandchildren as we approached retirement. When we had renovated it, we let it initially a gite for a few years but spent increasing periods of time here and fell in love with the village, the lifestyle and the slower pace of life- and of course the wine and the sunshine. Montlaur, despite its size (around 600 permanent residents) is a thriving rural village and a little hub for other villages in the Val Dagne with its small shops, school and rich community life. Our family are all regular visitors and participate in the village festivals, in Montlaur and the surrounding areas.

Wonderful week

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property for a week in summer 2013. We had a very enjoyable stay. The property had been recently refurbished and the standard was very high. The kitchen and bathrooms were fantastic - and having a toilet on the ground floor was very handy.

The beds were all very comfortable - especially the one our 13 yr old slept in!

Outside the table area was lovely and sunny, and it was useful to be able to park in the courtyard area.

Usually we stay in properties in the country so it was a good change to stay in a village. Peter was a great host, nothing was too much trouble.

He recommended many places to go. We had a great time exploring the local area and drove down to the coast to aqua jet water park which the children enjoyed.

We would love to return one day

Perfect Stay

  • 5 of 5

It exceeded our expectations such a peaceful, comfortable stay. Peter and Felicity were very hospitable and very helpful with directions to the areas of local interest. Peter was even good enough to source us some local wine. The house and Carrcossonne plage (lake) are very suitable for children of all ages.

C'était une découverte pour nous. Tout OK pour des vacances superbes, calme, propre, beau, propriétaires accueillants, voisins chaleureux. Rien à redire. Très belle région, beaucoup de balades, de très beaux petits villages. Je conseille cet endroit. Nelly

Location

From the Owner

When we saw L'Ancienne Ecurie in 2013 we knew it could offer a holiday in the heart of our village combined with the privacy offered by its pretty walled garden, with its backdrop of the hills outside the village. The stables room, which we converted, is remembered by older villagers as home to two horses during their childhood. It now offers an additional sunny living space. We worked hard with our family and a local builder to renovate the house so that it provides the perfect holiday home while retaining its own unique character . 2015 is our third holiday letting season and we have made it even more comfortable by listening to the positive suggestion made by previous guests all of whom loved the house and its location.
