Gorgeous Cottage near Whitby, North Yorkshire Moors, Yorkshire, England - Romantic Retreat In A Gorgeous Location

Lavender Cottage featured in Country Homes and Interiors magazine, and we were proud to be a part of an article in the Times newspaper, Britains best 50 holiday cottages. The Cottage is a romantic Grade II listed property which is stunningly presented… it’s luxury all the way! Just kick off your shoes, relax, unwind… enjoy. Lavender Cottage is in the heart of Iburndale, a small hamlet on the edge of Sleights. The picturesque village is five mins walk away and has two pubs, general store, butchers with delicatessen, bakers, tea shop, fish and chip shop and post office. Just next door is the village of Ruswarp with rowing boats on the River Esk and tempting tea shops. A few minutes away is Whitby, recently voted "Best Day Out" in tourism awards, with a full range of shops, restaurants, galleries, services and entertainments. We are sorry, but Lavender Cottage is not pet friendly. *No booking fee if booked direct with the owner*

About Helen Charlton

My name is Helen Charlton and I own and run Lavender Cottage along with my interiors business, Busy Bee Studio.

Helen Charlton purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Helen Charlton chose Yorkshire Moors and Coast

I loved Whitby and the surrounding area as a child, so that's where I looked for a gorgeous retreat, and Lavender Cottage stole my heart as soon as I saw it!

Although it did need quite a lot of love and hard work to bring it back from the 1970's interior!!

This is a very special romantic retreat, and you will discover Lavender has been tastefully refurbished, and it combinins vintage finds, seaside paintings, local antiques and lots of luxurious fabrics.

It's been a labour of love!!

What makes this cottage unique

Lavender is perfect for honeymooners or anniversaries

It has lots of special touches...... Emma Bridgewater pottery, to a gorgeous antique French bed, a picnic hamper for you to use and the whole cottage has a homely, comfortable feel. It is stunningly presented… and it’s luxury all the way! Just kick off your shoes, relax, unwind… and enjoy!!

Notes:
We are sorry but Lavender Cottage is not child/pet friendly. We have made a conscious decision not to have Wi-Fi so that the cottage is a real retreat. Outside: The cottage has a beautifully landscaped garden with pink old fashioned roses, bay trees, and of course plenty of gorgeously scented lavender! A gorgeous outdoor table and chair set, invites you to sit and enjoy the garden, perhaps with a glass of wine. There is a small chimnea to bbq on or add warmth to extend the evenings outside. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Fresh. fluffy, white towels and Egyptian cotton bed linen are provided.

Wonderfully vintage

Gorgeous quaint cottage in lovely location. We felt immediately at home sipping our wine in front of the wood burner. Cottage is immaculate and had everything we needed. Location is great as it combines the seclusion we as city dwellers crave but with easy access to Whitby and surrounding villages. Perfect cosy retreat to recharge the batteries.

Beautiful and cosy cottage just a stone's throw from Whitby.

My fiancée and I had a wonderful short stay at Lavender cottage. We arrived to a welcome note, some fresh coffee and tasty cookies, and spent the next hour or so exploring the property and admiring all of its quaint and quirky little features.

The cottage had everything we needed for a relaxing stay, and the garden is an idyllic retreat from the hustle and bustle of modern living. We sat and admired the wild birds, waved hello to the locals, and even hand fed a friendly little Robin (named 'Dave').

Very nearby is Whitby town, and all of its amenities, which is enough of a lure for some, but the real local charm is the vicinity to the beautiful North York Moors and its unspoilt wilds!

We will definitely be staying at Lavender cottage again, and would highly recommend it to anybody looking for a quiet escape in charming character cottage.

Thank you Helen for an amazing stay, and thanks for labeling Dave's robin food, we almost didn't believe it when he flew into our hands!

Very relaxing and enjoyable stay at Lavender Cottage

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was superbly appointed and exactly as described so met our expectation. We were lucky with the weather so managed to BBQ most evenings (would recommend the steaks from the local butchers in Sleights!) in the lovely cottage garden and the position of the table and chairs is in a perfect sun trap so enjoyed a leisurely glass of wine while cooking! Parking is not a problem in the hamlet and some great walks from the door step. The surrounding area has plenty to do and some lovely coastal villages and walks a short drive away. Did not eat out but if into real ale there are some great pubs in the Moors.

Would certainly recommend a stay at Lavender Cottage.
