About Dane Henderson

Mary & I have owned Auldallan Cottage for 12 years, when we purchased it we we undertook significant refurbishment including adding a kitchen and bedroom extension using local materials and craftsmen.

My family grew up in Carnoustie and as teenager spent many summer holiday locally at nearby Craighton of Airlie, when the opportunity presented to purchase Auldallan Cottage we knew immediately this was the right decision and enjoy sharing the cottage.

We have used our cottage as a family retreat for our 4 children whenever we can and have celebrated many family occasions in the beautiful setting. When not used by our family we happily share the beauty and tranquility with others.

As our family has grown we have added additional accommodation in the form of the unique 2 bed self contained Armadilla glamping pod

Dane Henderson purchased this cottage in 2004

Guestbook comments from the owner

The cottage is truly wonderful, the most amazing setting with views down the glen and so peaceful. Hills just behind the cottage, had to go 5m on the road, then all off road - up a track then to paths with birds singing, rabbits, deer etc for company. Cottage itself very comfortable, warm, wood burning stove, plenty big enough and lots of garden for the kids to grub about in. Loved it and hope to come back sometime soon. Thanks for letting us stay there.

My fishing friends and I have an annual May weekend every year for past 10 years Auldallan cottage has been the best. Top marks to the owners.

Perfect location for hibernating in the winter. Amazing scenery and wildlife. Comfortable, clean, well equipped cottage. One of the nicest properties I have stayed in. Very clean, modern and cosy. Beautiful views. Everything we wanted in a holiday!

The quiet was astounding!!

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely amazing time at the cottage. It was very cozy, and given the chilly weather the fire every evening was something to look forward to while out and about. The drive to the cottage is not easy, but so worth it. The sheep were fun to watch, especially the mom with twins who liked to graze in the upper front yard of the cottage! They liked us, I think. The only problems that we had were related to the functioning of some of the utilities. Since we are not from Scotland, we didn't know about the "boost" function, nor could we find the controls in the small closet in the larger bedroom. As a result, we had no hot water for the first two days of our trip. Better directions regarding this would have been helpful. Luckily the sheep did not mind our stink!! Great, great trip. I hope to return soon.

Lovely little cottage, beautiful views and very cosy

  • 4 of 5

Great location and lovely garden. Cottage itself was well stocked and very cosy, only downside is I don't think the cleaner has been doing a very good job was a lot of dust and dirt and she hadn't left out sheets for the sofa bed for us. Other then that we had a wonderful stay and there was lots of wildlife and lovely walks for the kids. Would definitely stay again.

Excellent peaceful break.

  • 5 of 5

This place was perfect as no other word could describe it, i took my two adult daughters and my dog for a break and we never wanted to leave, i had found my perfect place to relax, the cottage was so warm and welcoming on our arrival which we loved and the views you see when you get up in the morning are beautiful. I loved the peace and quiet and my dog loved the walks we went on then slept in front of the log burner, i must say, no internet or mobile signal was especially important as you really appreciated the countryside and wildlife around you, it is also not too far away from the historical town if you needed the shops, it was so nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and cant wait for my next visit, i cannot thank the owners, Dane and Mary enough for the comfort of their beautiful cottage, i will certainly recommend this cottage to everyone i know.

Quiet well equipped cottage in a beautiful location

  • 4 of 5

We had a great stay in the cottage in October, the location was perfect for our quiet relaxing holiday, the cottage is surrounded by open fields, perfect for walking with the dogs and kids.

The cottage is very well equipt in the kitchen, we loved having the log burner, only downside was the water/heating in the armadillo, but there was plenty of portable heaters, so it didn't stop us enjoying our hols.

Dundee is not too far away, great for days out, science centre, discovery museum, Olympia swimming pool.

Overall we had a great time, thankyou
