About the Owner

The owners, Steve & Jenny Vaux, were born and brought up in Somerset, but have spent many years working and living overseas, so know what makes short term self catering accommodation work. They very much love the flat as a place to unwind, and hope that you will too, if you choose to rent from them!

They ask you to treat it as you would your own home and leave it as you would want to find it. Both are ex-smokers and therefore ask strongly that you don’t smoke in the building, and more especially in the flat itself

Guestbook comments from the owner

"What a beautiful apartment! Lovely location, all the mod cons. Wonderful access to anywhere you need to go. There was everything we needed ... and more in the apartment. Lovely neutral décor. Just beautiful. Thank you for letting us stay in such a delightful place. Would definitely hire again! Thanks Clare, Adam & Samuel"

"Fantastic apartment - home from home. Stayed as son was taking part in a cricket festival, so perfect to come back to after a long day. Everything is here and prior to arrive, Steve and Jenny were extremely helpful. Thank you and would recommend very highly. Thanks again, Michele, Lee & Tom x"

Comfortable, stylish and convenient

  • 5 of 5

The property was easy to find, on the main route to the north of Langport. First impression of the property was excellent: it was beautifully clean and tidy and set on the top floor of a well-maintained, converted 'manor' building that we learned had been built by the Kelway family a century ago, who were (and still are) known for their flower-growing business.

When it came to actually living here for the week, we couldn't have been better provided for. The owners have thought of everything - from kitchen equipment to Sellotape, maps and guidebooks to reading material, DVDs and laundry supplies. The apartment was warm, welcoming and full of character.

It was near - within a five minute walk - to the BIBIC centre, where our daughter had a two-day assessment, and not much further from a convenient Tesco supermarket. In Langport there were a selection of other shops, Post Office, cafes and takeaways. The (listed) Langport Stores, a deli/health food shop was worth a visit to see the original wood and brass shop fittings and to pick up the odd treat.

Taunton, Bath and Bristol were good for day trips and it looked as if there were many other local attractions that I would like to have visited had we more time.

Keys were available from the lovely neighbour, who I'm sure would have been more than happy to help if there'd been any problems.

I feel very lucky to have found the apartment, and would wholeheartedly recommend it. It would be my first choice if we come to Langport again.

Home from home

This was our first stay in Sumerset and what a treasure of an apartment we found. On walking in through the wonderful entrance hall we knew we had found something special and we were not disappointed when we entered number 11. It's is fitted out to a high standard with solid oak furniture and equipped so well that we found that there was nothing we didn't have. It was very quiet and in a wonderful location being near to so many National Trust properties. We are already planning our next stay.

Perfect!!

  • 5 of 5

We had an extended stay here whilst on a property search .The apartment is a little gem- extremely comfortable - a home from home . Fully equipped with good quality furniture and accessories which you would not normally expect from a rental property.

Owners Jenny and Steve were very accommodating and dealt with any queries in a friendly way; promptly and efficiently.

We have no hesitation in recommending.

Modern flat in Langport

  • 5 of 5

The property is a modern flat conversion on the second floor of an old building. It is extremely well maintained, comfortable and warm, and well located for visiting the surrounding areas. It provides two double bedrooms, a quite luxurious bathroom and well appointed kitchen/lounge/dining area. Everything that we required appeared to have been catered for, with detailed instructions on how everything worked. The booking procedure was extremely easy, as were the arrangements for arrival and departure.

It's location is easily accessible from the A303 road, and the M5, although that is a little more distant.

The town of Langport is well furnished with cafes, pubs and restaurants, and small shops, together with a small Tesco supermarket. The towns of Taunton and Yeovil are within 20/30 minute travelling time, as is Clarkes Village outlet shopping area.

We would certainly consider booking the flat again.

A grate little place to stay

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to this gem of an apartment. Situated on the 2nd floor of a beautiful, recently converted stone building the property is very quiet & comfortable, furnished in a modern style with many extra touches and a well equipped kitchen area. Most importantly it is spotless. Although accessed by two flights of stairs we, both in our seventies, do not find this a problem & we look forward to visiting again this year.

Location

From the Owner

This warm and cosy flat was bought new and equipped with entirely new furniture and equipment in 2009. It was used for a little over two years as a “weekly commute” home, and is now used regularly by the owners as a weekend/holiday home close to nearby family members. The accommodation has a lovely rural town feel, situated on the edge of Historic Langport, with views over open fields from all windows. 20 minutes from the M5 (Jct 23, 24 or 25) or 10 minutes from A303 (Podimore roundabout) we are located within 30 minutes of Taunton, Yeovil, Street, Wells and Glastonbury & less than an hour from the South and North Coasts. With great access you can be at Redwood Grange comfortably within 3 hours from Central London or 2 and a half hours from the West Midlands.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Bristol or Exeter at 60 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Eli's at 0.5 Kilometres Nearest Golf : Long Sutton at 5 Kilometres Nearest Train : Taunton, Yeovil or Castle Cary at 20 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : M5 at 15 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Several at 1 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Burnham on Sea at 40 Kilometres

Special interest holidays:

If activity is your choice there is an excellent sports centre with an outdoor (summer only) heated pool, gym, squash courts and tennis courts five minutes walk from the flat at Huish School. Staff are friendly and the casual rate is extremely reasonable.

If you are keen on tennis there is a friendly club at Somerton who welcome visitors to club sessions.

Central Somerset offers a collection of varied historic places of interest, even if you ignore Bath!! These include Montecute House, Tintinhull House, Glastonbury, Somerton, Ilminster, Sherborne Abbey, Stourhead etc.

Great for walking, bird watching on the Somerset levels, and cycling, with hill walks/tracks in the Quantocks, Mendips and Blackdown Hills, or in Hardy Country.

Coastal walks can also be found along the edge of Exmoor, the Dorset coast at Chesil Beach, Burton Bradstock and Portland.

There's a selection of walking books and OS Maps in the flat and have added comments on walks we have done ourselves.

Coast/Beach:

There are large beach resorts at Burnham on Sea and Weston super Mare on the North Coast, or Weymouth on the South Coast, plus Minehead's huge Butlins complex all 40 – 90 mins away.

If pretty harbours and quieter beaches are more for you, try Watchet, Blue Anchor and Lynmouth on the edge of Exmoor, or, Charmouth, Sidmouth, Seaton, Bere, Lyme Regis, Eype, Seatown and West Bay on the Jurassic coast, all less than 1 hr normally by road.

Travel:

Bristol and Exeter are the closest airports (approx. 35 miles away).

Rail links at Castle Cary and Taunton (<15 miles), Yeovil, Crewkerne and Bridgewater are little further away.

Bus services stop close to the flat with regular daytime and early evening to/from Yeovil and Taunton, and less frequent buses to Bridgewater. Details in the information file in the living room.

Distances:

Yeovil, Taunton and Bridgewater are all about 15 miles.

Street and Glastonbury about 13 - 14 miles.

Bath, Bristol, Weymouth and Exeter 40 - 45 miles.

Lyme Regis & Bridport 30 - 35 miles.

Further Details:

Langport and Somerton, 4 miles away, serve the surrounding rural community and therefore has more to offer than one might expect. In addition to a mid-sized Tesco, and a local supermarket in Somerton, Langport offers a high quality fruit and veg stall, butchers, bakers, a magnificent wholefoods/delicatessen, plus two coffee shops, and 4 take-aways (Indian, Chinese, Kebabs and Fish and Chips) for that first evening/first morning, so don’t be tempted to bring your food with you!!!

If you prefer to eat out you need travel little more than 5 minutes to get a wide variety of pub, bistro, with more exotic food in Taunton, Yeovil & Street. Details will be left in the information file in the living room.
