About the Owner

hi there,i'm louise and me and my husband bob have lived in rogart for 21yrs now after moving up from wiltshire. we have 3 children,2 of which have flown the nest but no.3- charlie is still at home. we love where we live and hope you will too. we're both outdoor people ,are keen gardeners and grow lots of our own produce and rear our own meat. having a croft is more of a way of life than a job. we like to think we're pretty helpful kind of folk so during your stay we are more than happy to give you any local tourist info where we can ,lend you maps etc and hopefully make your stay as relaxing and as fun as possible.we've had family in the cottage on and off for the last couple of years but we are back!!! =)

the old byre cottage is a wonderful place to get away from it all, rest and replenish your energies.Whether you are looking to relax in the beautiful garden breathing the fresh air and admiring the awesome views,or looking forward to those cosy evenings in front of the fire after an invigorating walk.We have been coming here as a family for many years in all seasons and have always found the old byre to be a warm ,cosy and comfortable kid friendly base from which t explore.our kids havecollected icicles in the winter, fed lambs in spring and seen seals on the beaches in the summer, they revel in the space and freedom and when they are happy we are happy too! Fell in love with this cottage and surroundings on our first visit several yrs ago and have been back every year since and think its the perfect base for sightseeing or just lazing relaxing in front of the peat fire! Deanna-Bratton

Gorgeous Colourful home away from home

  • 5 of 5

A week of rest and relaxation with my 5 month old daughter, dog and husband! We couldn't wish for anything more. Where there were questions they were answered and fixed if necessaey within minutes. Nothing was too much trouble.

Location is idyllic - not too far from shops and remote enough to enjoy the local countryside.

Owners could not have done anything more - cake and wine on arrival - what a welcome! Thank you

Cosier than at home

  • 5 of 5

We spent only a week with our baby at the cottage, but would have wanted to be there for longer. Not only was the weather perfect most of the time, we could also enjoy cold evenings in front of the fireplace. The cottage is in perfect condition, and Louise and Bob are great hosts. The scenery is just stunning, and the surrounding villages and the nearby sea make this place even more enjoyable.

Fantastic holiday

  • 5 of 5

The hospitality from the family was exceptional and made us feel very welcome.

The property met our needs perfectly and was well presented and clean. Plenty of logs were supplied for the stove and the living room was relaxing and cosy in the evening.

They had thought of everything, including spare toothbrushes and sun lotion in the bathroom and there was a lovely plate of brownies with milk and cold wine waiting for us when we arrived.

Our son was made to feel especially welcome and would have happily stayed there forever!

A car is essential for this part of Scotland for visiting attractions and restaurants. But we wanted tranquility and complete relaxation in the evenings.

Beyond All Expectations

  • 5 of 5

The Old Byre is just beautiful. We arrived after an adventurous journey at 3am with the owner's family willing to stay by the phone and guide us in if need be. But the directions were faultless and we happily tumbled into bed after a glass of wine that had been chilling in the fridge. The children were delighted to wake up to a breakfast of fresh brownies that Louise had baked and took advantage of the fresh milk that had also been provided. Louise and Bob don't miss a single detail, providing loads of fuel for the marvellously efficient burner, towels, toiletries and loads of lovely extras like specialty teas etc. Their superb local information - garnered from their own experience and recommendations from eating out, beaches and amenities - means you can hit the ground running and get out and enjoy this gem of Scotland. Hubby said it was the best place to ride his bike in the world and we all delighted in the beauty, the peace and calm, the warm welcome of the hosts and the easy-going luxury of this very well-presented holiday home. We are going back in a couple of months for another stay. Terrific!

Cosy Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful cosy cottage - spotlessly clean and well equipped -arrived to tea chocolate brownies , shortbread bunnies , chilled wine and a lit log burner and a warm welcome from Louise & Bob. Loads to do on rainy days with lots of books, games and DVDs and a beautiful garden to sit in the sun and listen to nothing but the birds . Worried about going with two teenage boys but they had a great time even after being surgically proved from the internet ! Visited Dunrobin castle , climbed up to " the manner " and loads of walk a which our 2 collies ( who were also made very welcome) loved - great week and Thanks to Louise & Bob who went out of their way to help us when we had lost our only set of car keys !!! Great relaxing week.

Fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a week in April and had such a great relaxing time. The cottage is lovely - so well equipped, clean and cosy. The kids loved the selection of books, dvds and board games and we were welcomed with some home baking, tea and wine and the log burner was burning away nicely.

The owners are such friendly, lovely people and our daughters were quick to take up the offer to help out with the new lambs which they enjoyed so much that they were getting up at 5.30am to go out with Louise or Bob! The garden area around the cottage is beautiful and there is a lovely private area with seating and a bbq.

Locally there is so much to do, fantastic walks, beaches and towns to discover. There is a large selection of information in the cottage of great places to go or eat out and the best local beaches etc. We had our Golspie fish and chips, saw the seals sunbathing on the beach, took a trip to John O Groats and went on a great walk across the hills.

The scenery all around is just stunning and we all loved our stay at The Old Byre so much that we are coming back in July and can't wait!

Facilities

From the Owner

we both love the outdoors and everything it has to offer,so when not working on the croft its great to be able to take the bikes out and hardly see a car,go hillwalking or go for a stomp on the nearby beaches. i've recently taken up climbing and theres lots of rocks to climb!,my husband thinks i'm mad and prefers to go for a round of golf instead..we're both pretty sporty but when we just feel like chilling out the peace and quiet on the croft is wonderful.who would want to live anywhere else when on my morning school run i can watch the red deer grazing on the roadside!
