Cottage in Fougerolles du Plessis, Mayenne, Pays de la Loire, France

Le Petit coin de Paradis is set on the edge of Fougerolles du Plessis close to many local footpaths and is an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding area. It has a private south facing terrace and an enclosed garden. It is only a 5 minute walk to the village where you will find an award winning boulangerie, a butcher, a supermarket with petrol station, a bar, a restaurant, a hairdresser, and a brocante/second hand shop. A market is held in the village square on Friday mornings.

The property has a large lounge with log burner, UK freeview TV, DVD player and CD player. A large selection of DVD's and books are available for guests. The recently fitted kitchen is perfect for the keen cook as it has a range cooker with 5 gas rings and 3 electric ovens, and is well stocked with kitchenalia. The separate dining room is an ideal space to show off your culinary exploits and indulge in a glass or two of wine.

Upstairs there is a double bedroom with fitted wardrobes and access to the rear garden. There is a twin bedroom and a single bedroom. The family bathroom, comprising bath with shower over, sink and WC, is also on the first floor.

Lovely house with private patio in great location

The house was easy to find from the great directions we received from Shuna. We were victims of the Dover queue (where we sat in the traffic for over 19 hours) so when we eventually arrived the welcome pack waiting for us was extremely welcome indeed!!!! A very nice touch. The house is lovely. All of the rooms are spacious and there is a lot of rustic charm about the place. We had everything we needed. I must also mention that the beds are extremely comfortable. The weather was kind to us so we enjoyed many BBQs on the very private (& sunny) patio. The village is a very short & easy walk away. Even the Intermarche supermarket is easy to walk to (which is really useful when you've drunk all the wine and need to go back for some more!) It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the supermarket - which is on the far edge of the village. The supermarket is excellent. A very good range of stock - you can get everything (don't forget your own bags). There is a huge range of wines to try at very reasonable prices - and we did our best to get through them all. The supermarket also has petrol, which is cheapest we saw in France. We travelled a lot during our 2 week stay. Some lovely days out not far away. Mont St Michel was about 1 hour away - a very nice day out. Vitre and Fougeres are also good for a visit. Slightly further afield we travelled down to St Suzanne - a lovely medieval village which was about 90 minutes drive. The WWII beaches are about 2 hours drive, as is St Malo - which is a lovely town with lots to do. Driving is easy - the roads were very quiet, and we passed through many beautiful villages on our journeys. We have already recommended this house to friends & family. Shuna is so very helpful - all of our emails have been answered without delay. So glad we found "Le Petit Coin De Paradis" - we had a perfect stay. Thanks Shuna.

Lovely cottage in a great village location

Well presented characterful cottage in a great location about 5-10 minutes walk from the centre of the village with a bar, café, restaurant, bakers and butchers. Fantastic garden and terrace.

Ideal base for cycling and walking or sightseeing across the region.

Spacious well equipped cottage

We visit France frequently and found this cottage to be of a high standard and well equipped with a large garden. About a 10 minute walk to the village where there is everything you need, can particularly recommend the butcher and baker. Shuna always responded to emails promptly. We will be returning next year

Quiet and private, with good facilities on hand.

The cottage is at the end of the village, which has a baker, butcher, newsagent/bar/tabac, and a restaurant. The baker has excellent bread and is known for its brioche. There is a small Intermarché (open daily, including Sunday mornings) at the other end of the village, with a petrol station. In the house itself, three good-sized bedrooms and a bath/shower room sit above a large sitting-room, a dining-room and a well-equipped kitchen with a range (gas hobs, electric oven), fridge, freezer, dishwasher and washing-machine. Outside, there is a sizeable patio with a table and chairs, and a barbecue. The patio isn't at all overlooked, and is great for sitting out, eating, and relaxing. Above is a large, raised lawn area, perfect for games or sunbathing. Though the restaurant in Fougerolles was closed for annual holidays during our stay, we found a lovely place near the shrine church in nearby Pontmain (the Saint-Amour, usually lunchtime only). Nearby attractions include Mont St-Michel and the town of Fougeres, with its beautiful gardens, handsome castle, and large weekly market. There are also the abbey ruins at Savigny le Vieux, and the quiet beach at le Bec d'Andaine is only an hour away. Do take note of the description and bring your own bedding and towels! The house is well-maintained, and we found everything very much to our satisfaction.

We chose to buy a house in the Mayenne as the area is good value for money with lots of things to see and do. This house attracted us as it is in a village with all facilities and we intend to retire here, when the time comes.

Coast/Beach:

The town of Fougeres is just 20 minutes away, and has the largest medieval chateau in Europe. It has many good shops, cinema and ten pin bowling. Just outside the town is the Forest of Fougeres, which has a large lake and beach. There is also horse riding in the Forest.

Travel:

St Malo - 1.5 hours, Le Havre - 2.5 hours, Cherbourg - 2 hours. Calais - 4.5 hours. Detailed directions will be sent after confirmation of booking.

Distances:

Fougerolles Du Plessis is situated in the Pays de Le Loire but travel five minutes in a particular direction and you can be in Normandy or Brittany. Fougeres, with its ancient belfry, many shops, bars, restaurants is 20 minutes away. The mediaeval town of Domfront is 30 minutes away. The chateau de Goue is on the outskirts of Fougerolles du Plessis and is open to visitors. Le Mont St Michel is less than an hour away. Le Mans is an hour and a half away.

Further Details:

Fougerolles Du Plessis is blessed with an assortment of facilities. There is a small but well stocked Intermarche complete with a fuel station. The "Lion d'Or" is a very popular restaurant in the village that represents excellent value for money with a four course meal with coffee, wine and cidre included for the paltry cost of 13 Euros per head. It's good too! It is open for lunch Tue to Sat, and in the evening only by prior appointment for large groups.There is also a bar in the village that serves excellent pizzas. We have a butcher, a baker (recently awarded a prize for the best Brioche in the whole of France), a Post Office, a Credit Agricole bank with a cash dispenser, and a brocante type shop. There are many cider presses in the vicinity that offer free tastings of both cider and Calvados. In the nearby town of Desertines (5 miles away) there is an English style pub called the "Red Lion" that serves fish and chips and curry. Just around the corner there is a French style cafe called "Chez Martine" that is not quite as good as the Lion d'Or but is worth a try nevertheless as it is also superb value at 12 Euro per head. The towns of Gorron, Ernee and Mayenne are close by where there are many more places to eat and drink. In the town of St Hilaire du Harcouet, approx 15 minutes away, you will find a superb Italian restaurant called "Le Soleil d'Italie. There are plenty of opportunities to indulge in your favourite activities. Fishing, golf, horse riding, kayaking, walking, and cycling are all available locally. If you are into military history you are a hop, skip and jump from the Normandy beaches and there is plenty of it up there.
