Overview

About the property

House in Navarrosse, Biscarrosse, Landes, Aquitaine, France 300M From A Lake With Sandy Shores, 12 Mins From The Sea. Sleeps 5

The house is situated South of Arcachon, in the beautiful Landes forest 12 minutes from the sea and 300m from a lake with sandy shores. It has been architecturally designed to a high French standard in a typically French style with tiled floors on the ground floor and carpets upstairs. The house is simply furnished in pine to complement the exposed pine beam ceilings. The lake has numerous sandy beaches with ample shady parking and during the Summer months it has an average temperature of 20C plus. The shallow perimeter is a very safe place for small children. The long sandy Atlantic beaches bordered by the pine forests provide world class surfing. This is a French holiday area famous for wines and seafood and is largely undiscovered by the British. Walk or cycle along special tracks in the forest to lakes or sea. Local village markets, classic vineyards, historic Bordeaux and the Bastide towns are all within easy reach. Not far South are The Pyrenees and Spain

About Mrs Margaret J. Baker

We are a couple with a deep love of France , French wines and French food. We were lucky to find this house and have enjoyed many happy times here.

Why Mrs Margaret J. Baker chose Biscarrosse

There are such a range of places to visit near the house . Forests, lakes , quiet sandy beaches , huge waves at the sea for surfing and the large sand dunes along the coast. There are also so many things to do from all manner of sports to exhibitions of local history from Roman times up to present day . The area is famous for its wines and visits to its vineyards can easily be arranged. The supermarkets sell a huge range of wines at reasonable prices. The area is very French and the local markets are well worth a visit.

What makes this villa unique

The house is our own house in France and is equipped to a very high standard . You will find all you need and the comforts of home in a beautiful part of France . Over the years our guests have looked after the property and we are delighted to share it with like minded people.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our fourth stay and just as enjoyable as ever. We love the contrast between the beaches of the lake and the ocean.

The best holiday we have had for a long time. Excellent location there is so much to do in the area . Loved the bird park at La Teich.

The house is very well equipped - you had thought of everything for our comfort. It had everything we needed. We will be back.

Our whole family including our 6 year old son enjoyed cycling to the lake and other places on the special cycle tracks.

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: The property is cool inside in the day in Summer when it is hot outside on the patio. It does however benefit from the warmth of the evening sun in the Autumn and the Spring. The house is a non smoking property and we are sorry to say that no pets are allowed. The house is wonderful for early or late holidays as well as in high season Outside: The private enclosed garden means that it is enjoyable to eat outside and makes it safe for small children. There is a patio, an area of lawn and a tree/ shrub border. At most times of day there is both sun and shade. A BBQ and a range of garden furniture , including sun loungers, are available, which means the garden can become an extension of the house Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen hire may be provided by prior arrangement

Séjour très agréable dans une maison bien placée proche du lac et confortable. Quartier calme.

Nous conseillons la maison de Margaret et Kent qui sont accueillant et organisent bien votre arrivée, même s'ils sont situés en Angleterre.

Special interest holidays:

Walking and cycling are very popular. Take your own bikes or hire them locally to ride through the pine forests or along the canals, to the lake or ocean along specially made cycle paths. The lake and the canals joining them offer Freshwater fishing and there is a School of Fishing where professional coaches can help to develop your techniques. Biscarrosse Plage offers opportunities for salt-water fishing and surf casting.

Numerous sports such as Horse riding , sailing , water skiing , kite surfing, wind surfing, canoeing , archery and many others are available locally. Equipment and instruction can be hired at the ports.

The bird reserve at La Teich , 40 minutes away, makes this an ideal spot for twitchers or for those with an interest in bird watching.

Coast/Beach:

Navarrosse port where yachts anchor and there are large sandy beaches is 5 minutes walk away. It takes just 12 minutes to reach the Atlantic coast with its endless sandy beaches and excellent surfing

Travel:

Easy access from channel ports via Auto routes.: St Malo is 385 miles away and takes approximately 6 hours ; Bilbao in Spain is 174 miles to the South and is 3 hours away.

Airports : Bordeaux 50 mins drive: Biarritz 1 hour 50 minutes

TGV train arrives at Arcachon during the Summer months and is a 30 mins drive to the house.

Distances:

Biscarrosse Ville 1 mile; Biscarrosse Plage 9 miles; Sanguinet 8 miles.

Close to the famous Bordeaux wine regions , including Medoc and Saint Emilion; Bordeaux (a World Heritage Site) 50 mins; Dune de Pyla (the largest sand dune in Europe) 30 mins ; unique Bassin d' Arcachon with its oyster beds and wildlife 30mins; Pyrenees and Spain 2 hours, Bastide towns 2 hours

Further Details:

Biscarrosse Ville has all the facilities of a small town - bakers, banks, pharmacies , larger supermarkets , cafes, restaurants and a Post Office . There is an excellent local market on Friday and Sunday.

In the Summer there are many fetes and festivals which welcome visitors in Sanguinet and Biscarrosse Plage. Seaplanes land and take off from the lake near to the museum in Biscarrosse .

Aqualand (a water park ) , a rope course and a farm setting for younger visitors means that there is much to do for all the family in the Arcachon region. An interesting open air museum , accessed by a small train , at Sabres shows the history of the area.

Cycles, boats and windsurfers can be hired locally.
