About Murray Jones

We bought this lovely house in January 2013 and have been working hard to bring it up to a premium standard holiday let. We have added solid wooden floors, halogen down lighting with a classic country interior design with a contemporary feel. Our many guests immediately get the 'Wow' factor when walking through the front door. We have also added touches such as Egyptian cotton sheets to make the stay extra special. At the end of the day, nothing beats the amazing view from all the windows of this house. The river Wye is enchanting and this house is situated directly above it. We have two black Labradors and, when we stay here, we make full use of the river by taking them for frequent swimming and ball chasing in front of the house.

Why Murray Jones chose Hoarwithy

Herefordshire is an amazing place, there is so much beautiful countryside and so few people here ! The view from this house is across to the other side of the river where there are no roads, just fields, horses and woodland as far as the eye can see. It's not really well known and we hope to keep it that way - a hidden secret !

The river Wye has been recognised for its beauty ever since tourists started coming to the area in the late 1700s.

The village of Hoarwithy has remained largely unchanged and is about as quiet and peaceful as you could wish for.

What makes this cottage unique

It is rare for property to sit right on the banks of a river - with only a narrow country lane separating the two.

The property sits high up enough to afford fabulous views.

The cottage enjoys a south-easterly aspect so that you can enjoy fabulous sunrises.

The garden behind the house rises up to provide even more impressive views and is covered by mixed woodland.

wonderful birthday weekend

  • 5 of 5

Everything we expected. Well appointed cottage with wonderful views of river and rolling countryside. Too many things we liked to list, but chiller drinks cabinet was a bonus, as was children's den, with DVD player - meant the adults had their own time of relaxation. Great we could take a dog as well. We couldn't have chosen better.

Our weekend away celebrating my husbands 30th birthday was wonderful. The location of this cottage was just perfect. We were very lucky with the weather, but regardless the views are stunning.

The house was immaculate when we arrived and it was a great touch to have cupboards stocking essentials like toilet rolls etc.

Our 11 month old had a blast crawling around. It was a baby friendly house with highchair and travel cot provided. My baby and I spent many (an early morning) sat on the decking watching the swans.

We’ve actually been looking at booking another weekend with the grandparents as we enjoyed our stay so much.

Thank you so much!

Wonderful house, superb views and position

  • 5 of 5

A fantastic house in a beautiful position giving you incredible views of the countryside and the River Wye. Loudest noise I heard all weekend was a Swan occasionally taking off. The biggest compliment I can give is that I will be booking again

Brilliant retreat overlooking the River Wye, a perfect family getaway.

  • 5 of 5

Great place to stay which was very comfortable for a family group of 6. Perfectly situated to explore the Forest of Dean the Brecon Beacons and all of the outdoor activities they are offer. The cottage was spacious and very well equipped and the owner 'Murray' was particularly helpful. The property had numerous types of tourist information and you are spoilt for choice. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a quiet rural location with scenic views and yet a short drive to so many activities.

The Rookery, Hoarwithy

  • 5 of 5

Was such a lovely house to stay in. We were two families sharing and the two bathrooms plus an extra toilet and four bedrooms meant we weren't in each others way all the time. The views from the house are stunning and I loved the lovely crisp white bedlinen. Comfy beds too.

Its was a shame the weather wasn't good enough for us to really make the most of the balcony.. We never got a chance to sit and eat outside . But its so comfortable and roomy inside with the huge telly . Our teenage daughters loved the upstairs little snug room with their own telly in too.

The house is so central to many places too... 20 mins to supermarket and Hereford one direction, 20 mins to Ross-On-Wye in other direction. Also took a trip to "Skenfrith" which is just in the border in Wales. Cute tiny village with an interesting castle. But there is so much more we wanted to see. Puzzlewood was lovely enchanted forest and we spent hours there. We will probably have to come back again to see all the other places we missed this time. Also the "Cottage of Content" pub down the road took 20 mins to walk to and the food was amazing..All in all was a great holiday and would have been better if the sun shone a lot more for us.. We all want to come back.
