About the Owner

We bought this lovely house in January 2013 and have been working hard to bring it up to a premium standard holiday let. We have added solid wooden floors, halogen down lighting with a classic country interior design with a contemporary feel. Our many guests immediately get the 'Wow' factor when walking through the front door. We have also added touches such as Egyptian cotton sheets to make the stay extra special. At the end of the day, nothing beats the amazing view from all the windows of this house. The river Wye is enchanting and this house is situated directly above it. We have two black Labradors and, when we stay here, we make full use of the river by taking them for frequent swimming and ball chasing in front of the house.

This was a very relaxing cottage with very attentive owners. Great views of the river in a very quiet position.

Lovely comfortable beds for a restful nights sleep after being out and about all day!

Clean and practical.

Perfect get-away!

  • 4 of 5

If you're looking for somewhere to stay with a quiet tranquil setting, this lovely house is worth considering. We found it clean, well maintained and perfect for our needs during our stay.

The house sits on the banks of the river Wye and there are some scenic walks from there. With good pubs and interesting places to visit towns a short drive this was a perfect base for us. We recommend this property.

Great weekend away

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I were looking for a dog-friendly house that would accommodate our family of 4 (and dog) and my sister-in-law's family of 4 and dog. The plan was to have a pre-Christmas get-together and a big meal on Sunday with my father-in-law and my brother-in-law and his family joining us. This place ticked all the boxes.

It was roomy enough with a large dining area and a cosy living room kept warm by the wood burning stove. The kids especially loved the bedroom with a crawl space and tv.

We cooked all of our meals there and the well-stocked kitchen had everything we needed.

The dogs loved the place, too. Right outside the door is a path down the river which was ideal for dog walks.

The house is right on the beautiful River Wye with stunning views from every window. Ross on Wye is a few miles down the road and a great place to visit. I especially liked the organic food store, Field Fayre.

The owners were very helpful and always quick to reply.

It's a place that we'll be returning to again next year.

Wonderful Late Break

  • 5 of 5

Everything in The Rookery is of a high spec, the rooms are light and airy with comfy beds and crisp white linen, huge sofa's to sink into after a day exploring the area and a lovely log burner to enjoy the odd glass of wine in front off, (that's if we were able to move the dogs away!) There's plenty of kitchen equipment for foodies and the most wonderful views from all windows. It is quite clear a lot of love has been put into this property, it is well maintained and very homely. We have already booked for later on this year, we feel this is a cottage we will return to again and again.

Highly Rrecommended

  • 5 of 5

We ( 2 adults and 1 lively dog) had a beautiful, restful weeks holiday in this lovely house. The house is tastefully furnished, very well equipped and was immaculate and ready our arrival. The views along and across the river are exactly as described - far reaching and full of interest! It took our dog a while to realise the "galloping" she heard was not horses but the many swans landing on the river and coming to a stop in front of the house. The location is excellent: plenty to do in the area to suit the very energetic or the less so and with2 good ( but quite different) pubs in walking distance.

Sadly, not an accessible house for people with mobility difficulties.

Location

From the Owner

Herefordshire is an amazing place, there is so much beautiful countryside and so few people here ! The view from this house is across to the other side of the river where there are no roads, just fields, horses and woodland as far as the eye can see. It's not really well known and we hope to keep it that way - a hidden secret ! The river Wye has been recognised for its beauty ever since tourists started coming to the area in the late 1700s. The village of Hoarwithy has remained largely unchanged and is about as quiet and peaceful as you could wish for.

Facilities

From the Owner

It is rare for property to sit right on the banks of a river - with only a narrow country lane separating the two. The property sits high up enough to afford fabulous views. The cottage enjoys a south-easterly aspect so that you can enjoy fabulous sunrises. The garden behind the house rises up to provide even more impressive views and is covered by mixed woodland.
