Garden Apartment in Jardines de Calahonda, Costa del Sol, Totally Refurbished 2015 - Amazingly Quiet Location - 7 Mins Walk To The Beach And You Don’t Even Have To Cross A Road

Completely Refurbished Air Conditioned 2 Bedroom/2 bathroom Luxury Ground Floor Apartment in the vast Tropical Gardens of the exclusive and unique "Jardines de Calahonda" (Gardens of Calahonda) with a 7 minute walk through the park to Luna Beach and the newly constructed 5km of coastal sea front boardwalk without having to cross a road.

The urbanisation is made up of low level quaint and characterful “village style” properties and couldn't be more different to the typical generic “Square Box” of many Spanish holiday developments.

This relaxed tranquil feel was what I had been searching for in my year long quest to find my dream holiday home. There is no other complex I found that gave me the feeling I get as I drive into Jardines, it puts me straight into holiday mood. The wait was worth it, south facing ground floor garden apartments rarely come up for sale in Jardines and this is testament to the unique location it has. This is my winter residence as well as a summer rental so is luxuriously furnished as a home from home.

Forget stories of double bookings, unreliable descriptions and pictures. Everything you see and read here is as you will find it when you open the door. The pictures in my advert are the vistas in the direct area around the apartment rather than “nice generic pictures” of an area close by. What you see in my advert is what you will get.

More than happy just to have a no obligation chat about the apartment and area if you need any further information or guidance. I would rather steer you in the right direction than take a booking for my apartment if I know it does not fit your specific criteria.

LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION - Such a commonly used term but one so important in choosing where to stay for that special holiday. Jardines complex is set to the front and south west of the Calahonda urbanisation, as you drive in you loop back down towards the ocean and away from the hustled bustle of the main area. This gives it its easy 7 minutes walking access to Luna beach and the new sea front 5km Boardwalk.

To prove this I have recorded myself doing the walk and this is posted on youtube (go to youtube and enter “Walking to the beach in Calahonda”). This short video will show me leaving my front door, walking leisurely down through the park and onto Luna Beach via the beach tunnel and arriving in 7 minutes.

From here its a short stroll along the beach in a westerly direction to the beautiful port of Cabopino with its Marina, Cafes and Restaurants to soak up the atmosphere and culture whilst relaxing over a delicious meal or chilled drink watching the world go by.

The walk to the beach also passes the Los Cipresso Square and is again a 7 minute walk from the apartment. Here you will find Supermarkets (Lidl & Supersol), Bakery, Chemists, Banks, Cafes, Restaurants, Newsagent, Dry Cleaners/Laundrette etc etc (Instead of turning right as you exit the park you turn left and walk 100m).

The coast line from La Cala to Puerto Cabopino (approx has recently benefitted from the newly constructed sea front board walk which hugs the water line of the Ocean and then sprawls through the stunning protected dunes of Cabopino and Artola allowing you to be at one with nature. This makes for a lovely afternoon or evening stroll with many Chiringuitos along the way to tempt you in to enjoy a meal or cheeky drink. All of this accessible without the need to use a car, just 7 minutes walk from your front door.

For me being able to walk to all the amenities makes the holiday relaxing, many apartments are set 2 or 3 km up into the hills (beware they are very steep in places). Ive stayed in many of these and whilst the views can be stunning, everywhere you go you need a car. From Jardines you can just take a leisurely stroll for a coffee or chilled glass of wine, walk the sea front boardwalk , get on the beach or nip to the supermarket all in a matter of minutes.

The old saying still holds true, Location, Location, Location.

GARDENS - “Jardines” is Spanish for “Gardens”, they just don't build complexes with gardens on this scale anymore. The apartment is set within a vast stunning mature tropical garden with an extensive range of trees and exotic plants and flowers. The terrace leads directly into the lawned gardens allowing you and your children to play and enjoy the setting and take full advantage the unique location. The apartment is orientated South/South West within the gardens, the main terrace having Sea Views and capturing the sun right through until evening.

SWIMMING POOL - The main terrace directly overlooks the swimming pool making the ideal base for you to enjoy the facilities without the need to “lock up and leave the apartment”. Alternatively for the older children you can sit and relax on the terrace enjoying a glass of wine safe in the knowledge you can have “eyes on” and can be poolside in an instant should need arise whilst giving them a degree of freedom and independence.

TERRACES - The apartment has 2 terraces and a large rear court yard.

The front main terrace (approx 20 sq m) faces South and South West and overlooks the swimming pool. You step directly into the lush extensive tropical gardens where you can relax and enjoy your holiday. It is equipped with terrace dining furniture and loungers.

There is a smaller side terrace (2 sq m) just to the left of the main terrace ideal for a couple to take a seat and relax with a drink and get a little shade from the midday sun.

There is a large rear courtyard (25 sq m) which captures the morning sun and is equipped with terrace dining furniture for you to enjoy your breakfast. There is a small lockable storage room containing the washing machine and cleaning materials accessed from the court yard.

KITCHEN - I often winter here for several months at a time so the kitchen is fully kitted out as a true home from skimping, forget horror stories of 4 cups/plates/knives/forks and a teaspoon. The extensive selection Crockery, Cutlery, Utensils, Glassware etc are all crisp fresh Ikea 365 range. The kitchen is equipped with an oven, ceramic hob, microwave, blender, dishwasher, fridge freezer, Nexpresso capsule coffee maker (Lidl sells good quality coffee capsules for under €2/10pk), Dyson animal cordless vacuum (so easy and convenient to use …couldn’t live without one)etc etc.

DINING - The air conditioned open plan Dining Room is raised one step above the lounge and contains a large chrome and glass dining table with commodious seating room for 4. The ambience is very mediterranean in feel with luxurious rugs, Arabic lamps and quality unique wall art. All complimented by modern rustic wooden Vitrine and Side Chest and Drawers topped off with beautiful glass table lamp and full length suede mirror as a splash back feature. There is also an LG Bluetooth Sound-bar and speaker system to allow you to connect your music for a relaxed dining in experience. Photos on the advert show some of these features in detail. I have also installed a small white Art Deco desk in one corner for you to use as a base with your tablet/laptop keeping up with your social media and emails.

LOUNGE - Stepping down from the Dining Room into the air conditioned Lounge with views out over the gardens and ocean and you will find 2 sofas with cushions and throws for you to relax whilst watching the 46inch Samsung Smart 3d TV. There are over 250 channels available including all the UK major channels (BBC1/2/3,News, ITV1/2/3/4/Be, Ch4, Ch5, 5USA, 5Star, Film4, More4, CBBC, Cbeebies, CBS Action/Drama/Reality, CNN, Sky News, HIT TV, 4Seven, KIX, POP, 4Music etc ) There is also a Blue-ray player with an extensive range of family and children’s films for your enjoyment. Netflix has recently extended its coverage to include Spain so if you are a member you can login via the TV/tablet and use as you would in the UK. The router for the Fibre Optic WIFI network is housed in the TV cabinet. This has unlimited data usage, is powerful enough for multiple devices and is exclusively for your use during your stay without restriction. Glass/Wood coffee table, rugs and wall art etc all add to the ambience to create a stylish modern comfortable lounge from which to enjoy your holiday.

MASTER ENSUITE BEDROOM - Relax and sleep well in the air conditioned master en-suite bedroom recently refurnished with Ikea 160cm bed and quality mattress made up with white linen. Plenty of storage is available in the floor to ceiling mirrored wardrobes and contrasting smoked glass topped white Ikea bedside cabinets and large chest of drawers. ENSUITE - Recently refitted fully tiled down-lit luxurious bathroom with double size shower to give the adults some privacy.

SINGLE(s) BEDROOM - 2 brand new Ikea single beds with quality mattresses and white linen to allow your kids or adult guests to relax in this air conditioned bedroom and have a comfortable nights sleep. Plenty of storage is available in the floor to ceiling mirrored wardrobes, and Ikea bedside cabinets and full chest of drawers in a tasteful ash finish with contrasting white smoked glass tops.

SHOWER ROOM - Ideally situated just adjacent to the Single bedroom in the hallway is another recently refitted fully tiled down-lit shower-room complete with jet shower enclosure incorporating 3 different showering options, lighting and even a built in radio.

LAUNDRY - All prices quoted include full bed linen, bathroom hand towels, shower mats and 2 personal towels (medium and large) per guest. For stays of two weeks or longer a second clean replacement set of all items will be provided for you to use at your convenience. Please note beach towels are not provided.

"We had a fabulous holiday staying at this lovely apartment. It's situated within easy reach of everything you need. We didn't hire a car because everything from supermarkets to beaches to restaurants were all very amenable. Buses are frequent to Marbella and Malaga, and there is a very good train service at Fuengirola which will take you to the airport (and very cheaply too!). The pool was within sight of the apartment which was great as we have a young child. The apartment itself was well equipped and furnished to a high standard with plenty of home from home comforts. All in all this was a fabulous apartment, situated in a great location. We will definitely be returning!"

Notes on accommodation: The apartment has recently undergone a complete refurb. It was taken back to bare brick, replasterered, redecorated, new doors, new floors, air conditioning, heating, dishwasher, new bathrooms, new lighting, new bedroom furniture, etc etc etc. It's now befitting of a brand new apartment but with the advantage of its superb easy walking distance location so close to amenities and the beach yet in completely tranquil private tropical gardens. The property is properly registered under the new legislation and has all relevant insurance coverage and is fitted with fire alarm, blanket and extinguisher to comply with legislation. Outside: Courtyard - Approx 30sq m East/South East facing, gets the sun in the morning for breakfast, Access to laundry room containing washing machine, loungers, chairs etc. Main Terrace - Approx 20sq m South/South West facing, sun from late morning to late evening, BBQ, Access to amazing tropical gardens, overlooking the pool to keep an eye on any children, sea views Mini Terrace - Approx 2sq m West facing gets the setting sun, ideal for two to relax and enjoy a glass of wine overlooking the gardens. Gardens - Jardines is Spanish for Gardens, and the gardens are what this complex is all about. If you look on google maps you will see the Jardines complex is the biggest green area in Calahonda and are famous locally for the amazing variety of tropical plants trees and vegetation. All immaculately cared for and maintained by our full time gardener. Pool - Communal pool in front of apartment, new toilets/changing room, direct sunlight all day Tennis/Handball Court within complex Utility Room: Washing machine is fitted in the store room which is located in the court yard. The court yard is huge with plenty of room for drying clothes towels etc. after the beach and there is clothes dryer and washing line. Vacuum & other utensils in storeroom. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The apartment is always cleaned before each handover and new towels and bed laundry supplied. For stays of two weeks additional towels and laundry will be provided. Additional cleaning services for long stay or ad-hoc cleaning are available on request.

Fantastic location

The apartment is very well equipped and beautifully decorated. The pool is huge and when we were there at the end of June we had it to ourselves sometimes. The location is quiet and the short walk down to the beach is perfect. We hired a car and went to Ronda for the day which was amazing and well worth a trip. All in all and lovely relaxing holiday.

You will not believe how quick you can get to the beach from the apartment. Walk out of the apartment, turn right and follow the footpath between the small park and the Calahonda garden centre, in less than 5 minutes you will reach the beach tunnel to go under the road and you are then directly on the Luna beach in 7 minutes without even having to cross a road. Stroll another 7 mins along the beach and you are in Cabopino Port and the other side of this is the natural protected beach and monument.


Jardines de Calahonda is a 30 minute drive from Malaga airport.

Car hire is not essential as you can walk to all of the local amenities from the apartment, however I would recommend it as there are many places to visit in the surrounding areas.

I would recommend the website for car rental as this analyses all the local companies and finds the best deal.

Other options include bus, train or taxi to get to Calahonda.

If your trip is just to relax all amenities (shops, cafes, restaurants, pharmacy etc.) are within a 5 minute walk from the apartment.

A 10mins walk in the other direction will take you to "The Strip" with all its bars and restaurants and the "El Zoco" shopping area where you will find a similar range of facilities as above.

Cabopino Port (15mins walk/5mins car) - Harbour, Bars, Cafes, Beach Restaurants, Natural Protected Beach.

LaCanada (10mins car) - New shopping mall just outside Marbella, quality shops for all tastes including Habitat, Marks and Spencers, Zara and many smaller Spanish boutiques.

Puerto Banus (30mins car) - Playground for the rich and famous, huge yachts and great bars and restaurants.
