About the Owner

We had been looking for a house in France for some years as a retreat from our busy lives. When we bought this property we wanted to make it into somewhere special, a sanctuary for us when we are on holiday and a real home from home where we can enjoy a comfortable indoor and outdoor lifestyle in the beautiful countryside.

So much nicer than any other houses we have stayed in. The villa is magnificent, very large and was spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished. The pool and pool house were fabulous. We can highly recommend Villa Lowena- Julian Bills July 2013.

Fabulous house and pool. We all enjoyed the beautiful pool house, and sitting out in the evenings looking at the fantastic view. The O'Neills.

Great family accommodation

  • 4 of 5

Everything we expected for a 3 family holiday in rural France. Great swimming pool for 4 grandchildren and adults. Owner was pleasure to deal with and provided local service during our stay.

Facilities were as described and summerhouse was the outstanding feature for use during the day while swimming pool in use. Typical French towns and villages within easy reach. Le Pizou is a must for the Night Market, great food and entertainment. St Emillion is great for wine buffs. I would recommend property for families that want to experience rural France or just spend time poolside.

Fabulous house and grounds

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Villa Lowena for two weeks and loved it! The house is spacious and light and the two bedroom suites are particularly grand. The kitchen is super, making life much easier for the cook of the family. Everything was very light and clean - great views.

The pool is fantastic- a good size for a family who love swimming, and just the right depth so little ones can stand in the shallow end yet the deep end is deep enough for adults to swim and dive. We heated the pool which was a reasonable price and definitely worth it.

We spent happy hours on the grounds playing badminton and table tennis and of course swimming, watching the swallow show and sunsets at night, and there's plenty to do in the area- super markets, highly recommended night markets at le Pizou and especially Parcoul.

St Seurin sur l'Isle is a gem - weekly market, supermarket for essentials, horse riding, kayaking and a swimming beach on the river.

Would also recommend Aubeterre sur Dronne and St Aulaye - the former is very pretty and has great little cafes and a swimming river, the latter has a great Accrobranche centre and also a swimming area on the river.

St Emilion is a must, we had a great time taking the little tourist train and stocking up on wine.

We didn't make it to the local Cooperative cave to buy wine unfortunately- next time!

All in all, a fabulous two weeks!!

Relaxing in an elegant, welcoming home

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful house with extensive grounds is superb for families, entertaining - or, in our case, just getting away from it all and enjoying the countryside, vineyards, chateaux and restaurants.

The pool is unusually large, great for a proper swim, and the decor is elegant and relaxing.

The views of the large grounds from the house over the surrounding countryside are stunning, and the house makes the most of the views, with extensive windows and french doors.

The outside has several different seating areas for different times of the day, and a fabulous massive beamed , double-height poolroom with an indoor bbq and large dining table.

Plenty to see and do within a short drive, including several of France's famous vineyards, and enchanting medieval towns.

Altogether: a treasured get-away, in an elegant, spacious and welcoming home, with high-quality decor and everything you would ever need to have a relaxing holiday. We will definitely be coming back!

Fabulous Villa

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at Villa Lowena. The villa is unbelievably spacious and very smart with high quality furnishings throughout. The beds were the most comfortable we have ever slept on!

The pool is fantastic, very large, very warm and with a lovely terrace all around. Numerous outside seating areas and high quality loungers and parasols. The pool house is enormous with kitchen, dining and lounge areas in addition to those in the main house. Definitely the best property we have stayed in and hence we plan to return again next year. Location

From the Owner

We love the Dordogne, but we wanted to buy something away from the summer crowds and traffic of the area around Sarlat. Being right on the Dordogne/Gironde border provides easy access to all that the Dordogne has to offer with the added attraction of all the Bordeaux vineyards, and the city itself on our doorstep.

Facilities

From the Owner

We love the villa because it has so much light and space and even when we have a full house, everyone can find a quiet corner if they want to. Our outside space has a real wow factor and provides the focus for the day with a stunning 20 metre long summer house, a 14 metre pool, and numerous patio areas in both sun and shade. It is the perfect place to unwind and just enjoy your surroundings - the cerulean skies during the day and the beautiful star-filled night sky. The 3.5 acre grounds are a delight with stunning views and our own pond. For our sportier guests, we have a high quality outdoor table tennis table, a badminton set, boules and giant Jenga as well as a small indoor gym equipped with a cross trainer and weights.
